  • In this video, Luke from ADRENO Melbourne talks about the differences between a pneumatic speargun and a rubber speargun (or traditional speargun, powered by rubber).
    There is a myth that pneumatic spearguns are generally easier to load and use, of which probably has a lot to do with their compact size. Pneumatic spearguns are different from rubber spearguns in the way that the spear is loaded inside the speargun, of which can be a bit of a hassle. Alternatically, rubber spearguns are loaded with much more ease.
    Another major difference is maintainence. Pneumatic have o-rings and air pressure; if any problems arise, you'll have to send it off to a technician. On the other hand, a rubber speargun can be repaired yourself with basic materials.

      @stefpix 5 років тому +12

      Yes I have both, I use pneumatic. Faster to reload and less tangles in choppy waters, shorter than a comparable power band gun. no need to replace bands yearly, I feel the shorter and thicker shaft goes more straight without drops. Cons, repair may be more complicated, parts are cheap but often have to be ordered from Europe, also more careful with sand damage. But I can attach an action cam with a simple velcro wrist strap on the barrel. And I can travel with the speargun in a regular travel bag without having to pay airlines' oversize baggage fees

    This guy has never used a pneumatic. I've used them for 30 years my first a mares sten and currently a mares cyrano 110 they load way quicker than rubber guns and in 30 years I've only ever had 1 o ring give me trouble. They're easy to fix as if you have any mechanical understanding and the power is variable. I guarantee i can load my 110 faster and get it into action quicker than any rubber gun out there. Treat them with respect and was them after diving and they'll last along time. Sad to see such a biased comparison I buy from adreno and they've never let me down but that was unfair to good spearguns. The only disadvantage is on older models the line of sight is higher than the shaft so this takes some getting used to.

    • @moosediver1
      @moosediver1 3 роки тому +3

      @@abdulrahmanreciteation No, once you've pumped it up to the level of power you want - within the manufactures specs - thats it. Only if you loose air through a bad o ring is there a problem. Servicing pneumatics is not hard and really only every second or third year would be fine depending on how much use it gets. Just look after them by rising in fresh water after us.

      The main issue you will see in relation to power on a pneumatic speargun Vs a rubber speargun, is that due to teh nature of compressed air if you are diving deeper with a pneumatic speargun i.e. 10 metres plus, the deeper you dive means the power will be reduced, thus effecting the range of the speargun. The other major issue we see with penumatci spearguns, is people firing them out of the water; as this causes major issues with pneumatic spearguns causing damage to O-rings an internal compenents.

    i have been spearfishing for close to 45 years now. The first 23 years i had the same undersee rubber gun. Then i was introduced to a mares cyrano 970. This is the best gun ever! i tried the hft but went back to the cyrano with a few upgrades i did myself. I shoot all the fishes i ever did. you can use a pin in the back, push in the hole. I bought a manometer gauge, money well spent if you like a pneumatic, you can change pressure without exactly counting the pumps. I ordered it from subprof. Different spearguns have different screw threads, although some have the same. The manometer gets screwed in the rear, there is a pin. if you do not screw it all the way in to make a seal, but in enough the air will come out. You could also use a nail, maybe i'd file the tip of the nail first to make it more blunt, not as sharp.

    The spear loader costs about $3 and I carry a spare one. yes easy to lose, but also a snorkel can get lost as easily. I think pneumatics up to 75 cm are easy to load, and the piston pushes the shaft all the way ti the end,, while the rubber in a rubber band keeps losing momentum and stop pushing the shaft before the shaft has left the speargun. Isn's a 70 cm pneumatic comparable to a 90 / 100 cm band gun? easier to transport too, and you can easily add a n action camera with velcro. Also spear is thicker so it has more momentum and less likely to bend. Maintenance is simple and you can add some oil once a year. I bought a gauge and my Salvimar Predathor did not lose any pressure in a year. There are advantages for pneumatics. Yes an expensive 100+ cm rubber goon may be better for blue water, but there are pros in pneumatics that this video ignored. Rubbers degrade, after a year they lose power, the pneumatic does not need a new piston or seals every year. Parts for pneumatics are inexpensive, and there are plenty of tutorials on how to service them. They are all more or less similar. When I switched to pneumatic I feel the spear shoots more straight.

      I believe 20 to 22 bar I have the manometer. I bought SEAC oil for spearguns. It was not expensive, ordered it from a Spanish diving online store. You can go up to 30 bar pressure (I have Salvimar Predathor) but It is way too hard to load. I like that a pneumatic is more compact for the power, easier to attach a camera with a simple velcro wrist strap, and also way faster to reload in choppy water than an open muzzle band gun. I think the video points to some disadvantages without informing on the advantages. No tool is perfect and there is always a compromise and a matter of preference.

      @@honyeechou818 I have 2 Salvimar Predathor spearguns. They come at 20 bar, but manual states that you can pressurize up to 30 bar. But that would be really hard to load. 20/22 bar seems pretty good. I bought some SEAC brand speargun oil. You can check online. Since you need to lubricate after a year or 2, depending if you use it often or not, you can order wherever and wait for shipping. I ordered it from Subprof. Also if you look at DeeperBlue forums there are some people who are really knowledgeable on pneumatics including maintenance, repair and upgrades.

I use them most weekends not a single issue since I bought them about a year ago and for maintenance it just needs a good fresh water rinse and a few drop of oil down the trigger. I made my own loader much safer than those and if you lose it I just wrap a glove around the tip and do it that way. Nothing against rubber guns just find the pneumatic gun much easier and faster to load in my case.

      @stefpix 6 років тому +3

      I am with you. Actually in choppy water with currents I find easier to load a pneumatic than a open muzzle band gun you have to wrap the line first. Probably it is harder to load a long pneumatic gun, but up to 70 it is easier for me. Also adding some oil once a year is cheaper than replacing the bands.

      There is a video on UA-cam comparing both types of guns for speed and power using materials in the same manner as tests on all types of guns including ballistic jelly. A double banded gun sent the spear into the jelly. Pierced right though but got stuck in the jelly. Pneumatic went right through and carried on going. What was more noticeable was the how much faster the Pneumatic was. If it is that much more powerful at first then the depths most divers go to are not an issue. If I dived mostly dives at greater depths more pressure can be added. Most guns now come with switch for half or full power. Same as adding or removing bands.
