Been watching religiously since 2016. My first video was an all-time great: Royal Rumble 2001. Still one of the funniest podcasts I've ever listened to. Can of coke to the loads and a happy 10th birthday to my favourite podcast on the Internet.
I stumbled on the channel when I saw a 90 min "review" of wwe and Scooby Doo. I thought it had to be a sneaky way to get the whole movie onto UA-cam I clicked it and went back watched everything you made twice over and have been a fan ever since.
When I see the Goblin King all I can think of is "Sullivan my son,by the bones of Amankara and the moons of Jupiter...the Dungeon of Dooms monster truck is far superior! "
That terrible Ballantine Books cover at 20:00 is absolutely real. It was the copy we had in my middle school library in the late 90's that got me started on the entire series! I'd be willing to bet that book is still there to this day.
I've watched this episode so many times (it's even my "to fall asleep" episode, and c'mon we all do it) and I still fail to get Jay's riddles everytime lol.
I would honestly listen to the Lads review pretty much anything. Well done on 10 years you have brought lots of joy, laughter and distraction to many many people. Looking forward to 10 more years. Thank You
I love all of your animation. Just to add. I wouldn't want you guys to do something you wouldn't really want to, but since you guys are all up for it, for sure do the whole trilogy.
One of my favorite jokes about the Eagles “plot hole” is a prediction of what bad faith Internet commentary would look like in a parallel universe where the Eagles did carry them all the way to Mordor. “Wouldn’t it have been so much better to just have all of the fellowship go it on foot? Yeah, it would take longer, and it would be more dangerous, but it alleviates several risks and is better for the narrative. Like, the characters barely have enough time to learn or interact with one another, none of the hobbits have obtained any combat experience before being shoved right into the heart of the enemy, the Eagles were immediately subdued by the drakes and fell beasts, and the Ring of Power easily could have just been stolen by the Eagles, beings of incredible power. Not to mention that we barely see any of Middle Earth, so we don’t get as much of an idea that it’s just as much the land that’s being saved from corruption as the people.” All in all, no amount of narrative changes would’ve stopped pedantic nerds from giving out, and trying to outsmart a work of fantasy fiction.

@@OSW Thanks friend, there were so many tough editing decisions that were made while putting it together. Cutting out a simple scene or moment could have a ripple effect down the line. It was fun but very challenging!
13:37 so fun fact, the word "Macguffin" was misused by George Lucas to mean what it does today. Originally, it meant a barely important object that contributes only to get the movie going in act 1. What we know as Macguffin today is actually a plot coupon, something that drives the plot from one part to another actively.
Hands down the best part of this episode was the cut list for the dwarves (which btw, was so very needed in the movie. Introduce them, yes, but after that they don't all need to be in every scene). The "Survivor Series" backdrop was golden. Quality work as always gentlemen. Big fan of the Hobbit series. It did not need to be 3 movies though, that was obviously all $$$ related. The story arc was intentionally drawn out to get three movies out of the series but it left to much filler feeling in the movies. The Hobbit series is needed, just like Star Wars Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Return of the SIth. It helps to set up the gaps before LOTR and answer some questions but just imagine how this would have played out had the Hobbit gone first to screen before LOTR.
i went to the hobbiton with some friends in new Zeeland when i was over there for a week during my travels in 2013. we walked some hills, looked at the hobbit houses (from the outside), saw a broken tree, and tried the shitty beer,. the highlight of the tour was when one of the lads stole a cup from the crew food hall, he thought that it could be peter Jacksons personal cup.

I regret not jumping on board earlier (started in early 2017 when the TNA arc started) but glad I did and easily it has become one of my all-time favourite UA-cam channels/podcasts. Loved this episode, probably my favourite film review yet. Lord of the Rings is my favourite film trilogy and the extras for them are the best behind the scenes stuff I have seen of any movie since I enjoyed how they did certain things with the minatures, VFX and all that stuff. I am definitely down for you three to do The Desolation of Smaug and Battle of the Five Armies. Even though I own the extended editions of them on Blu-Ray, I have never watched them (only seen them once at the cinema upon release). Make them a yearly thing like the film releases themselves. Love the review, I thought the whole concern with the dragon was. if, Sauron came back he could get the dragon to join him and it would be a huge threat to the whole world. That's why Gandolf wanted to go confront the dragon.
@@MsCholmondley-Warner While I do think Gandalf was right in a better-safe-than-sorry sort of way, I was never able to imagine Smaug saying anything other than, "...Sauron? Nah, mate. Wake me up if the one guy I might actually still respect ever comes back." Sauron, even before he lost most of his power creating and losing the ring, was fought to a standstill by one admittedly super-awesome elf, jobbed out by an admittedly super-awesome dog and mortally wounded two-on-one by an Elf and a man. Hard to imagine a dragon of Smaug's power considering him worth paying much attention to, particularly when he's already got everything he wants out of life. The first two happened even before the _first_ time he was significantly depowered.

"Maffew, we need you to translate this old scroll for us!"
I'm in my 40s but love the film. But I read the book when I was 11 and used to read it under my duvet with a touch at bedtime. But the big mistake they made is they should have done the 'the Hobbit' film before the rings films. watching the film bring back memories of reading the book.
Happy 10 years of OSW. great channel one of my favs on UA-cam
I dragged my girlfriend to this. I fell asleep and when I woke up I asked her what I missed. She just glared at me and said “Nothing and I hate you”
She sandbagged it good! 😂
@@MsCholmondley-Warner lol! I thought she was kidding about not missing anything. She wasn’t. As OOC would say “Needless to say” I didn’t ask her to go to part 2 or 3 lol
I took my son to desolation of Smaug and fell asleep in first 45 mins. So pissed missed barrel scene. Woke up at Smaug part.
At first I thought you meant you made her watch this video LOL
Needless to say I felt embarrassed... but not embarrassed enough to not type it out.
@@rossomac21 Asking her to watch an OSW video? I’d get a firm “That doesn’t work for me brother” lol.
