No 72” belt grinder, no drill press, no pneumatic hammer, no shop, not even a traditional anvil! Not that you wouldn’t want any of those things, but I love these videos! Thanks for keeping it real Glen!
Frankly, I find his simplicity towards the craft one of the most endearing qualities of his content.
I like to see what I can do with less. Very glad someone is out there who appreciates that. Thanks for sure.
I really appreciate your very kind comment. Simplicity should be my middle name. Thanks.
@@gstongs I was almost discouraged from blacksmithing by seeing all of these other videos wherein smiths with operations large and small had all of this expensive equipment that was way beyond what I could afford. It was you and another UA-camr that clearly demonstrated that one needn't have several thousand dollar's worth of machinery in order to make something beautiful.
Thanks for expanding your wheelhouse. It adds a new dimension to your work. Looking forward to more!
This one pair has given me a lot of insight into how to improve on this. More to come... Thanks.
I have dollar store paint brushes stuck to magnets on every machine that makes chips or dust. You do the most incredible work. Thanks for showing us your process.
I like those a lot, I especially like that they look like they will do the job for a long time. Very nice little build especially for a first go.
Scissors and a hand saw are the two things I have always wanted time to have a go at but never got around to, your build there gives me some reason to elieve its not going to take me forever to make scissors...cheers Glen
I've got scissors on my mind after doing this pair. I realize my mistakes and will do a few more pairs. I made adjustments to this one and will maybe show that. It works well. Thanks.
Nice heavy duty scissors. I like the patina. Thanks Glen.
I made some adjustments to this pair. The next one, I'll make more fine and slender. The patina is really, really nice. I started using that on other pieces. Thanks.
Imagine the look on a teachers face when little Johnny shows up on the first day of school with a pair of these in a old King Edward cigar box!
Haha! Good one. Thanks for the humor.
This is so satisfyinge. From a chunk of hot metal to a beautiful tool that will work for centuries. I'd be willing to spend big bucks for one of these, instead of 2 dozen cheap made in China scissors.
Wow great project. Thanks for the video sir. Please keep up the good work and try to stay out of the heat.
It's hard to avoid this nasty heat but I'll do my best. Thanks so much for watching.
Hot scale is the bane of blacksmiths existence😂. Love the videos
Of late, my feet have taken a beating. But this heal wound is bad, just a terrible spot that always get's rubbed. Thanks.
Absolutely love this little adventure! Keep them coming Glen!!
I will definitely do more videos along these lines, scissors, shears, pliers. I learned a ton from this first scissor. Thanks.
It is always a pleasure to watch you work. That being said, I hope that burn is healing well. It may actually have been better that it did not contact the cloth of a sock. Depending on the material, it may have made the burn more severe (I know it was only scale, but getting burned with melted polyester or the like is significantly less fun than contact with hot scale).
That wound is still hurting. Just a terrible spot. And I think you may be right. A sock might have bought me an extra couple of seconds but if made from a material that would melt, could be much worse. I need to take my safety more to heart. Thanks.
Considering how cheap scissors are there is no commercial value in making one.But i like how you expand your skills to other things as well . Finished product looks lovely !
All the best to you and your family !
Hand forged scissors can sell for good amount and quite well though
I agree with Jeremy, there is a market for quality scissors just like anything else. Folks routinely sell custom knives for well over $1,000 but I can also get a useable knife for $2 - same principle. But most people wouldn't pay for a custom scissor. Thanks.
I totally agree. Certain professionals want high quality, custom scissors.
Interesting little scissors, if you offset the handles the other way it will create a stop to prevent over closing. Thanks Glen, love them just as they are.
I figured that out afterwards and made some post video adjustments that I'll show later. Thanks for all.
I definitely loved to see you stretch yourself like this. I found it very interesting to see how you work without a horn. I think most smiths use the horn, just like bottle openers. They create the finger loops on the horn without cutting the corners off. It was interesting to see how you cut off the ends then just drift it
A horn has its place, no question. But given that my small horned anvil is free floating (like all my anvils) it can be pain since using the horn leads to more than usual jumping. I'll keep on with scissors so look out for more. Thanks.
Even though I am on the road I can't resist your video's 😂. Lovely work Glen.
At home or on the road, GS Tongs is must see. But seriously, I appreciate everything you've done for the channel. Thanks.
Always something new and interesting. Glen! . Great job!
My next video will continue this try something new theme. Thanks.
That's a really neat pair of scissors!
Turned out nice but I also made some adjustments post video that I'll show maybe soon. Thanks.
Very nice end product 👍
I can see my failings with this first pair of scissors and am inspired to try this a few more times. Thanks.
That's a fine pair of scissors Glen... nice job. Great little vid !
It isn't perfect but a good start. Just this one pair has given me tons of insight into how to better go about this. More to come. Thanks for everything you've done for the channel.
@@gstongs ... are you kidding - they are great !
Great job. Looking forward to more like this Thanks for sharing!
I've got scissors on the brain right now. Will be sure to make a few more. Thanks brother.
Scissors look great man!! Nice touch with the copper pin!
I did some post videos adjustments that I'll show later. The scissor works but could be better. Thanks.
Soon as I heard them rubbing together I knew you nailed it...Sweet Video G!
It took some adjusting but this scissor works. More to follow in this theme. Thanks for all you've done for the channel.
Nicely done! You make it look so easy.
I had to scratch my head more than usual on this one. More to follow... Thanks.
Really enjoyed seeing this video. Nice job, I think I’ll
Try a pair of scissors now myself
I'm not sure why I avoided making a pair of scissors for so long. I'll keep on with this and similar tools in upcoming videos. Thanks.
Excellent job Glenn! Liked the way you did the offset on the finger rings, but that grinder of yours is scary! I've always been told that you NEVER use the side of the grinding wheel!
I appreciate your concern and will take my personal safety more seriously. I've developed some bad habits. Thanks for sure.
Cool scissors Glen, I see a new calling, Barber Glen!🤣
A barber shop is one place I haven't been to in decades. But I'll continue with the scissor making. Thanks my friend.
Turned out great Glen, a patina was definitely the way to go.
I'm in love with that oxalic patina. Been using it on other pieces. More to follow... Thanks for everything.
Cool project, good job.
Thanks good buddy. More to follow.
I like this. On your next one they will cut better if tempered with a slight spring curve into the opposing blade scissors should only come in contact in two places one the pivot pin point and the second where the cutting edges make contact at the cutting point otherwise great job I do love the design and passion. Keep up the videos
yes, this is called "set"
@@adedgeworks ty I knew it was called something but did not know what.
I sorted that out on this pari of scissors and got it working even better. Thanks for your input.
Thanks for sharing that info.
Excellent 👍 Thank you Glen!
Hey Buddy, I've got scissors on the brain now and will dive deeper into making more and better pairs. Thanks for all you've done for the channel.
I see this Scissors making video for the first time. I hope this will be an excellent product.
sir your work is very very good i like it
I'm very glad you like this. I need to make some adjustments to my scissor design here so stay tuned for more. Thanks.
Good job as always. We shared this video on our homemade tools forum this week 😎
I really appreciate you sharing as that always helps. More similar videos to follow. Thanks.
@@gstongs You bet. People really like your work. Let me know if you want a free premium forum membership so you can post your videos on the forum whenever you want.
Be careful with the sores on your feet. It takes forever to heal. When I drill or punch holes I chamfer the holes so it doesn't shear the rivet. The chamfer dulls the shearing edge. especially soft metal rives. Just chamfer enough to dull the edge.
ts
You ain't kidding. This heal wound is still hurting me. And yes, chamfering the holes is a greta idea and I have the perfect tool for this. Thanks for sharing.
Another outstanding video Glenn🤙👍
The general idea is here in this first pair but I can see clearly how to improve upon this. I'll be doing more videos involving scissors and similar tools. Thanks.
Super, der Holzklotz genau im Funkenfug!
Thanks for watching.
Impressive
Thanks for sure.
Awesome ✊⚒️
Much appreciated.
Mate, they are cool.
A working scissor but could be better. Just doing this one pair was more valuable than watching ten videos or reading several articles on the subject. Thanks.
Most interesting video and a most interesting scissors in the end. Master, I bow to thee. I wonder why the offset on the outer side ? Also, was the copper rivet for looks. Wouldn’t a steel pin last longer?
Concerning your heal and fingers. As said on another UA-cam channel I watch (I C Weld or Issac). This is NOT a "how to video". It's a "how I do video.
Yes, this is a "how I do" as in "how I do myself harm!" Thanks.
just dropping into white vinegar will etch it a bit and give a blue look...
Very nice!
This was fun and really educational for me. More to come... Thanks.
I like the way you do things. But I heard you talking of fire on the mat and fire on your foot. You can loose both your house and your body anytime unless you follow safety principles. You have a good voice and patience like a teacher. Please continue your effort.
I do appreciate your concern and will take my safety more seriously. And thanks for your kind comment. I'll continue to do my best.
@@gstongs Great man.Thank u.
Love your work man, please be careful with an unguarded grind wheel. Had one let go one time and dodged a bullet. Fracture in the stone!
I hear you loud and clear. I need to take my safety just a bit more seriously. Thanks for watching and for your concern.
@@gstongs Most welcome my good man! Ireland sends many blessings!!..🔥🔥☘️☘️
You should have painted the working surfaces then removed it after the soak they would be shiny with no change it doesn't look like it changed much anyway
I appreciate your input. As it stands, I like the oxalic patina a lot. Thanks.
Could you have offset the finger ring the opposite way to create a natural stop?
That occurred to me later and I made the adjustment. I'll maybe show that soon. Thanks for sharing.
The scale would have instantly burnt clean through the sock. Ask me how I know
Man, my heal is still hurting. Just a terrible spot that always gets rubbed by a shoe. Live and learn or in my case, live and burn... Thanks.
...take my money!
Your money or your life or your bald headed wife. Not sure why your comment made me think of that stupid old saying. Thanks for watching all the same.
I'm a fan of this anvil...! Is it forged steel or cast iron?
I had my small, block style anvils machined from solid steel (4145). Thanks for watching.
Hey buddy, do you ever do any forge welding? I don't recall seeing it in any vids. Is there a specific reason? Thanks!
Very rarely. It's hard to accomplish forge welding in my small gas forge and since I sit, I always feel it's extra dangerous. Thanks.
👌🏻👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
เยี่ยมๆ
Socks, get a pair!
Where are you living? I'm sure it's been asked before.
I live and work in Taipei. Thanks for watching.
@@gstongs if watched your vids for years nice work. how do the neighbours not complain about the noise though lol
