    No 72” belt grinder, no drill press, no pneumatic hammer, no shop, not even a traditional anvil! Not that you wouldn’t want any of those things, but I love these videos! Thanks for keeping it real Glen!

      @@gstongs I was almost discouraged from blacksmithing by seeing all of these other videos wherein smiths with operations large and small had all of this expensive equipment that was way beyond what I could afford. It was you and another UA-camr that clearly demonstrated that one needn't have several thousand dollar's worth of machinery in order to make something beautiful.

    I like those a lot, I especially like that they look like they will do the job for a long time. Very nice little build especially for a first go.
    Scissors and a hand saw are the two things I have always wanted time to have a go at but never got around to, your build there gives me some reason to elieve its not going to take me forever to make scissors...cheers Glen

    It is always a pleasure to watch you work. That being said, I hope that burn is healing well. It may actually have been better that it did not contact the cloth of a sock. Depending on the material, it may have made the burn more severe (I know it was only scale, but getting burned with melted polyester or the like is significantly less fun than contact with hot scale).

    • @gstongs
      @gstongs  2 роки тому +1

      That wound is still hurting. Just a terrible spot. And I think you may be right. A sock might have bought me an extra couple of seconds but if made from a material that would melt, could be much worse. I need to take my safety more to heart. Thanks.

    • @gstongs
      @gstongs  2 роки тому

      I agree with Jeremy, there is a market for quality scissors just like anything else. Folks routinely sell custom knives for well over $1,000 but I can also get a useable knife for $2 - same principle. But most people wouldn't pay for a custom scissor. Thanks.

    I definitely loved to see you stretch yourself like this. I found it very interesting to see how you work without a horn. I think most smiths use the horn, just like bottle openers. They create the finger loops on the horn without cutting the corners off. It was interesting to see how you cut off the ends then just drift it

    • @gstongs
      @gstongs  2 роки тому +1

      A horn has its place, no question. But given that my small horned anvil is free floating (like all my anvils) it can be pain since using the horn leads to more than usual jumping. I'll keep on with scissors so look out for more. Thanks.

    Be careful with the sores on your feet. It takes forever to heal. When I drill or punch holes I chamfer the holes so it doesn't shear the rivet. The chamfer dulls the shearing edge. especially soft metal rives. Just chamfer enough to dull the edge.
