Portable Sawmill Does This!

  • We have the portable sawmill up and running smoothly. After looking for saw mills near me, we ended up buying the OS23 by Frontier Sawmills last year and now we do our own lumber milling. We looked at many brands like Woodland Mills, Woodmizer, and Norwood. For the cost, we are happy with this smaller portable sawmill. The Woodchuck Peavey has also been a welcome addition to the sawmill. It is much easier to work with.

    Nice work Tony. That's a killer cant hook. My newest cant hook was hand made in the blacksmith shop by my grandfathers blacksmith in the 1920's. The rest of them are older.... I wouldn't know how to act with a new sawmill AND a new cant hook !! LOL Good job sawing. These little mills are quite impressive for sure.

      I have cut a lot of logs with my sawmill. My new cant hook peavey has an aluminum handle. It is so much lighter than my old one.

    I know a second comment from the old man who was a logger and so on that not trying to be the worlds smartest guy or even saying anything bad at all, this what I was taught... a "Cant hook" is a tool like you used to turn the log with but on the end, it does not have a spear or point. Now a "Peavy" is something used in the woods to move logs or roll them and has that spear on its end like the one you were holding. I got that in forest service school lessons we had to take before we could work in the woods industry and one of the few things I remember. I see the words used commonly and think nothing about it but did think you might like to hear my interpretation of it. I really liked this video as it shows some of the strengths of the mill that you chose. I would buy one if I were only a bit better of health. I mean 72 is not old until they put you to bed wet like I have been

      You are always welcome to a second comment. I appreciate your comment also. I would be lying if I said the mill was not hard work, but it brings me a good bit of joy. I am learning something every day.

    Tony, I hate to keep bugging you. That is a very nice looking and exactly what I had in mind. I looked on the work saver website and could not find that grapple. I think you said up to 40 hp tractor but I have a 50 hp Mahindra. Basically I want it for loading logs onto a sawmill as you are using it. All the grapples I have been researching weigh 500 to 800 lbs. Not very desireable when you need your lifting capacity for logs.

    Tony, I sure hope that you can answer this old mans question... what breed of dog is that as mine looks exactly like yours. Very smart, I am talking well trained and all and .... a rescue as he was in dog jail awaiting death row. I seen his face and told them to free the prisoner as his emancipation is in order. Just through accident I found out this cause I don't want circus animals, I want a companion. I had just had him a while and we were in the house... I told him to lie down and his ears were straight to either side and plop down he went so I thought a moment and ask of him like roll over or sit, shake hands an boom he knew all of it an when we walk it is heel and his body next to mine a half step and right in step. If I stop then he does an when I start again he picks it right up with reminder or other. Just amazing and a touch of too much people food. I didn't name him, he came as Rex and was eight years old. Meaning I want him around so I watch his diet an feed great dog food. Not just corn stuffing like some of the brands are known for. While some dog foods are like a couple dollars a pound, I spend closer to eight dollars and the name of it doesn't come to mind but comes through my vet; For one thing, he doesn't gobble or eat as much now that he has good food and the last of my scrabbled egg. LOL, they know how to work us and I am dying to know what he is. Thank you in advance

    Curious to see how the green wood works for you in your building project. And for the worms you can use an old farmers trick for preserving the wood. Mix 50/50 diesel fuel and old burnt motor oil (strained). I will protect the wood from weather (rotting) and it will kill those worms. The mix can be applied with paint brushes, sponges, or a standard garden sprayer will make speedy work of big jobs (just don't ever use the sprayer in the garden again).

    • @TonysTractorAdventure
      @TonysTractorAdventure  2 роки тому +1

      I use diesel to cut the logs. That most likely killed the bugs, but I will spray it down again. I like your idea. It looks good too.

I have used it on the T474 also. I like the older grapple too, and had no problem with it. My buddy bought the single clamp from me allowing me to get the new light weight double clamp. The lighter the grapple, the better as long as it will hold up to the work.
