This is exactly why taking the time to explain the WHY of an instruction, is often a good idea.
Kids are usually smart enough to understand, and an instruction with associated reasoning will stick much better.
This goes double so for many neuro-divergent people.

Less funny one, a girl had her feet up at the dashboard of her bfs car while he was speeding. They rear-ended a stalled vehicle so about 85-90 mph. Both died on impact, but when the paramedics cut the girl out they thought she was wearing a scarf. It was her legs. Never put your feet on the dashboard.

Not a first responder. A few years ago my next door neighbor tried to start his BBQ grill with gasoline. It was one of those converted oil drum types. The bottom burned thorough and splashed burning gas everywhere. Oh, all this happens on his wooden deck. His nylon pant leg, the vinyl siding and the deck go up in flames. I was outside and saw this all as it happened. I dial 9-1-1 and get transferred to the fire dept. I couldn't remember the neighbor's house number, so I have the dispatcher my address and noted that it was the house next door that was on fire. The dispatcher then asked which house was on fire . . . 🙄. The flames were threatening to set the surrounding oak trees on fire. I told them, "when they get here, I'm sure they'll be able to tell!" (additionally, I only have one next door neighbor, the other house burned down years prior 🤦🏾‍♂️, no, I didn't do it - electrical fire.). After they arrived, the neighbor then limped over to the ambulance, 3rd degree burns from knee to foot.

16:51 that sounds exactly like an incident that happened to my former boss. He’s a doctor and was taking in multiple rescue dogs. Two of them were fighting and he got in the middle when one of them impulsively bit him on the chin. He said the dog looked like it felt so bad for what happened and it was unintentional. In order to protect the dog, my boss got a friend who’s a surgeon to come to his house and suture him up. He now has a chin dimple that he didn’t have before. TLDR- My dad got bit by the same spider twice in the same day and was rewarded with a Hospital vacation.
My dad beats every single one of these. He is one of those people who will safely evict any unwanted critter/bug that's made it inside the house; and refuse to kill them. Long story short, one day there was a black widow spider in the bathroom and he decided to just pick it up to move it outside and it immediately bit him causing his arm to jerk and dropping the spider that prominently disappeared. As a precaution mom took him to the ER after being looked at for a few hours they determined he wasn't having a severe enough reaction to warrant additional care and sent him home. When they got back the first thing he did was go to the bathroom, where he saw The *spider, again went to grab it, got bit went back to the ER and with both bites had a bad reaction and had to be admitted.
    * While there is no way to know for sure it was the same spider, my dad has been doing that his entire life and it's the only time he has ever been bitten.

I remember being at the beach and there’s a huge rock(atleast 20ft tall and trees growing on top) that sits in the middle of the whole strip, we were walking down when I saw a huge group of people running to the bottom of the rock. Within 2 minutes an ambulance arrived on the street and they started running across the field to what turned out to be the EMTs son. He was skateboarding on the top of the rock and skates off the side , falling and breaking bones , cracking his head open and you wouldn’t have even known this was his mother as she went into work mode and just worked as hard as possible to get all of him on the stretcher and hold his head while they ran back to the truck. I’ll never forget it because it amazed me how stupid he was , and how sad that must’ve been for the mom, but how professional she remained knowing her kids life was at stake. It was brutal and one of the worst.

Luckily he was wearing a thick jacket AND Helmet, so only suffered slight injuries, nothing that couldn't be shaken off, but I saw the video it happened on a street a frequently ride by (I also have a motorcycle), if he didn't have his helmet then it was guaranteed that the impact would have smashed his skull open, so please dear readers, even if they make you look stupid just WEAR a helmet.

This was from my mom. When her and my dad were together in the late 70s, my dad and uncle were pretty drunk out at his house in the middle of backwoods nowhere Indiana, late at night. They saw a fence and my uncle, through inebriated confidence, tried jumping it. He didn't make it, and didn't know it was a barbed wire fence. So my dad helps him back in the house and my mom sees his pants ripped and covered in blood. After inspecting what happened, they put my uncle in the back of my mom's 1960s Buick station wagon and my mom drives him to the hospital which is 30 miles away in another county.
Now imagine this. The first 5 MILES are on unimproved backwoods county dirt roads, and you're laying, not sitting in the back of a wagon from the 60s, bleeding from your nuts being ripped open on a rusty, dirty barbed wire fence in the dark while drunk, and it's an HOUR before you're at the hospital, PRAYING the wait isn't too long, all without any painkillers beyond Tylenol. Now imagine explaining what happened and HOW it happened. How my mom described it was "hanging out", today they call that "de-gloved"

I was chosen due to my tiny size. Patient walked away with a mild concussion, broken cheek, broken eye socket, and a twisted neck.

My previous manager rescued dogs (mostly small handicapped/ancient dogs but the occasional pittie). This one large pittie mix she'd worked with for some time decided it was pissed at another dog for stealing a toy, and when she went to break it up, the dog bit her in the face. It basically ripped off her eyebrow, and tore open her cheek. It's a wonder she didn't lose her eye. She still rescued dogs though, and said it was a risk she took breaking up a fight. (working with dogs myself I learned this too- there are safe ways to do it, but getting injured is always a risk)

    • @bluexwings
      @bluexwings 3 роки тому +3

True. She wasn't between them, but I think she grabbed the dog who bit her's collar. I met her working at a dog boarding place/ daycare and while we didn't have many fights (we had a screening process for new dogs), they would occasionally happen. All employees had to learn how to break them up safely. My only bites there were overzealous treat grabs, but I had a couple close calls. The truth is you just never know when it might be the day they accidentally lash out at you by accident. Working with dogs with complex emotional scars makes things much more difficult, as well. The best thing you can do is try to diffuse things and separate them before they get too intense in the first place.

As a firefighter, the worst accidents were always caused by stupidity...
Pulling out in front of a loaded dumptruck on a 55mph road? Yup. They learned nothing tho- all were killed in the most gruesome fashion instantly.
Passing someone just before the crest of a blind hill- on that same 55 mph road? Yup. 3 cars totally destroyed, one woman killed, the passer broke BOTH femurs, plus many more injuries- and was trapped in a deep ditch. Bleeding like a stuck pig, screaming his lungs out- till he passed out- then the medics screamed at us. Gas everywhere. All to save a few seconds.
Another car turned right INTO a passing car at an intersection. Not cut her off- drove right into the side of her. The driver of that blazer was 19. She got shoved off the road into a culvert, wher she rolled several times we got there, and the vehicle was straddling the ditch. Roof caved in over to the right- driver leaning out the window to yhe left. She was alive, but not alert. Medivac chopper called immediately, and we had to cut her out. She lived, andade a full recovery, bit it was touch and go for awhile. Serious head injuries. The other driver was not injured, but totally distraught- they knew it was their fault. Injured girl was a family friend of one of our crew. Sometimes it sucks being a ff in a small town...
We also had a guy plow into a K9 Deputy at an intersection. Deputy was injured and had to be rushed to the hospital. Dog was okay- but really spooked. Had to get another K9 cop to come coax it out of yhe vehicle, and secure it, before he'd let us help his handler. NOT a good scene...
Kids drag racing rolled a car FULL of teens- like 14-15 yr old teens. Sent everyone to the ER. ONE girl took the place of another to keep jer out of trouble. We noticed, lol. Had to respond to the party she was now at, and convince her to get looked at.
Oh, and one of the 14 yr olds? The DAUGHTER of pur driver- a city cop. (Sergeant in fact). He was not amused.
The list goes on and on, lol. Like the time the Chief's brother kicked over a 5 gallon gas can while doing a brake job on his shop truck. Goes and shuts pff the power, then decides he needs fans to speed up the ventilation. So he turns it back on WOOOF!!!! BIG fireball! Lost his entire shop, several work vehicles, and his race car. Nearly lost his house.
We started seeing smoke several miles before we got there - he smoked out half the village. Nothing but fire when we arrived. We saved his house.

My dad accidentally knocked himself out on one of the big beams in the roof of the factory he worked at (he was up there checking out a bit of machinery or something). It was just above his line of sight so he didn't see it. Had to go to the hospital with a concussion and had a massive lump on his head for days afterwards.
He used to work as a chef when I was a little kid (3 or 4) and one day one of his co-workers accidentally cleaned a stove or something with the wrong cleaner. When my dad started up the appliance it cause a massive surge of flames that burned the heck out of both of his arms. I still remember them being completely bandaged up and a nurse having to come and visit him to change them despite me being so young.
    He's fine now (thankfully).

Small western town. An open canal runs by a street with concrete barricades to regulate flow/erosion. 8 inches thick by seven foot tall by ten foot wide.
A friend and I are waiting for our rides after closing at work. A massive blue ford LTD pulls up crammed full of kids, one or two of which might have been 21. They roll up to my friend and ask him if he wants to go to a party. He talks with them for a while, then declines, saying his mom is on the way. They drive off.
Two days later, my older brother (who is a cop at this point) is over for dinner while his wife and kids are off visiting her side of the family for the weekend. He's quiet, which is really odd for him. Mom notices and asks him if he's okay. He swallowed what was in his mouth and took a drink, then started talking.
The blue LTD did indeed go to an apparent rager of a party. No one knows if anyone there was sober by the end. LTD gets loaded up, tears off screaming for hell down this road, leaves the roadway, and slams into a concrete barricade at easily over 65mph.
First officer on scene sees the car mostly rolled over, so he's looking at the passenger side of the car, doors almost looking to the sky. No sound coming from the car or the passengers, so he grabs the rear passenger door and jerks it open, to be staring into the face of his daughter.
As soon as other officers were on scene, he fully lost it. Was off-duty immediately, and driven home. No survivors in the crash, everyone's blood tox came back off the charts. He retired early a month after the funerals.

He broke several vertebrae and pretty badly messed up his face but miraculously survived. He's recovered now but I imagine he was in a shit load of pain when he landed. This happened several months ago.

Not my story but one of my teachers told my class this to explain why he stopped being a paramedic and went into teaching. He responded to a multiple car scene. Drunk driver. 6 lane highway Drunk driver going 150km an hour in the middle lane starts swerving slams into one car with so much force it flips the car containing a husband, a wife and 2 kids. Driver (husband) killed on impact when the car flipped.Wife died in hospital 2 days later. One of the two kids died on impact, and the "lucky" survivor of that car ended up being a paraplegic.at the age of 7 and an orphan. The drunk driver loses control of the car that swerves to the other lane hitting an SUV. The SUV didnt flip but unfortunately the 9 year old girl had the window rolled down and had her face turned to face the window. On impact well you can probably figure out what happened when the drunk drivers car slammed into that door going at those speeds. Mercifully she was killed on impact however that was the part of the crash he was sent to tend to. He said he had seen a lot of injuries and a lot of accidents but it took him years to get that image and the screams of the parents out of his head and he could no longer deal with things like and that and with therapy he eventually went into teaching.
How does this fit the topic? 2 things. First is obviously the stupidity of the drunk driving. 2nd is that after killing 4 people including 2 small children and permanently crippling another after his car eventually flipped over the drunk driver walked out of the accident with nothing worse than a broken arm and a concussion from hitting his head on the roof of his car. Some research later he learned the drunk decided to take the cowards way out before he would stand trial and put a bullet through his brain. Great teacher who im sad to say was let go at the end of the year due to budget issues (they were scrapping that department and he was a recent hire) but last i heard hes been working at the next school ever since. A great teacher with great stories to tell in spite of this particular one.

So many of these are people trying to repair or investigate on mashinery without making sure it's switched off, power supply is cut or safeguards are applied...
There is a reason why a key topi of safety training with guns is to always make sure its unloaded before disassembly or checking for the reason of a jam.
This can be applied to electrical equipment: always cut the power and make sure that it cannot be put on again by accident or negligence!
Can be applied to mashinery: Switch it of completely and cut power before cleaning, inspection or maintenance that involves getting body parts in between moving parts or even close to such...
My boyfriends father once worked as an engineer and had worked on developing a mashine that produced plastic fuel tanks for trucks.
The mashine worked by inflating a tube of plastic with high pressure to press it into the mold thus creating the tank.
During operations sometimes inflation failed and leftovers stayed in the mold.
Instead of shutting down the mashine and using the maintenance hatch a worker crawled into the mashine through the hole where completed tanks were ejected. He somehow got stuck and wasn't able to get back out in time and the mold shut and he got squished all over the interior of the mold by the severe pressure used to inflate the plastic.
Keep in mind that the mashine was fenced off inside that factory to avoid accidents, had signs and all... But apparently there is no way to safeguard stuff from idiots.

My brother wearing a helmet is most likely the only reason he's still alive today. He was riding his bike down our grandparents driveway and there was a large truck just to the left of the driveway which blocked the view of my brother seeing the truck speeding around the corner and from the driver seeing him. He was 6 and spent about a week in a special children's hospital and our granny who was literally walking out the door to watch him said when the truck stopped it was literally on his arm and part of his helmet was wedged under the tire. His jaw was broken in 4 places and dislocated and he had a moderate concussion his jaw was still wired shut for a week or two after leaving the hospital and he was in a c-collar for like a month afterwards bc of how badly strained the muscles and ligaments in his neck were. Almost 5 years later he's perfectly healthy and loves to tell the story and show off his scars but we still have the very beat up and dented helmet he was wearing as a reminder why we always wear helmets

When I was a senior in high school a group of freshmen and sophomores were going to a public pool in the next town over. They were driving a pickup truck, so 2 people inside the car and 3 people in the truck bed (which is illegal in the US). As they're driving the kids in the back are messing around and threw a sandal which accidentally hit the driver, so the driver takes his eyes off the road for a second to tell them to knock it off. As he's turned around he accidentally pulled the steering wheel with him, so he tried to get back on the road but overcorrected himself and lost control and the truck went over a small fence. As the truck went over the fence one of the kids in the back fell out just in time to get crushed between the fence and the tires. The truck got stopped by crashing into a tree and I can't remember which but either the driver or passenger went through the windshield. The kid who ejected died on the way to the hospital, and the other kid died a few days later. Didn't know any of the kids involved, but I still warn people to wear their seat belts even in the back seat, and to not ride in a truck bed while the things moving, there's a reason why it's illegal.

Except bees have no reason to sting you if they don't think you're a threat. We got a wasp in the car on a long road trip, it was mostly in the back window right behind me. We stayed clam and kept going. Poor thing gave up and died like bees do once we got too far from that area, so it was probably a communal type of wasp. No one panicked so no one attacked the wasp and got stung, no one crashed the car, and no one tried to dive out of the car while it was on the highway. Literally all you have to do is stay calm avoid putting your hand where the bee is. Then stop your car, roll down the windows, and wait for the bee to leave. You can leave too, of course, if you don't want to wait for the bee to realize it can go now. My Dad's afraid of bees and wasps. He slipped on wet grass while running from a wasp, tore his rotator cuff, and needed surgery. Thing is, where he was there are ALWAYS wasps during the day in late summer to fall- they eat the pears that fall from the tree there. I still don't understand why he was out there in the first place when he's so afraid of them.

Wear helmets, when I see cyclists without them I'm like WTFeck, head injuries are no laughing matter. I don't know what happened to me but I blacked out, and on the way down I walloped my head off of one of those heavy, metal, rectangular shaped door handles which lots of shops have. My friend says he turned around and found me on the pavement convulsing, eyes rolling back into my head, foaming at the mouth and totally unresponsive. My head was pouring blood, it formed a 1ftx1ft puddle, my friend photographed the scene to show me. I literally have 0 memory of the incident, I remember coming around and I felt panicked, I thought I had been attacked like one minute I was going to collect my pizza with my friend and the next, I was on the floor, gushing blood and totally in shock. I felt extremely drunk despite being totally sober when I came around, like my world was tiltng, and spinning plus my head was throbbing, I felt like I was gonna puke too. We had to go to the hospital. I had split my head open, exposing my skull 💀. I can't remember, my recollection is hazy, most of the details were told to me by my friend but I think I needed to get stitches internally and externally, I had cut right through the different layers of my head. I got local anaesthetic and I honestly didn't feel much pain getting stitched up, I do remember my doctor asking me, "can you feel this?" , I felt tapping but no pain, then the doctor informed me that he was tapping my skull bone with his finger. My friend showed me a picture of my head he had taken, it was weird seeing my head torn open and actually bone exposed, I also chipped my skull. The wound was just over 3 inches long. I am basically 6ft tall, and I was walking slowly when I had my accident and hitting my head from my height made such a bloody, horrible mess and injury. I could have died, if I hit my head 3 inches to the side it would have been a different story is what a doctor told me. Therefore, if you were going faster, as is the case with cyclists, you could quite easily end up past tense from just a simple fall. Factor in collisions with moving vehicles and you certainly could end up with absolutely horrific injuries. I would never allow a loved one to get on a bicycle without a helmet. I'm left with a huge scar and a dented skull which can be easily felt with your fingers. I remember being too terrified to go to sleep after my accident because I was scared that I may not wake up, I didn't allow myself to sleep for 24 hours. Please wear helmets and make your kids wear them too, head injuries are no joke.

Well, he was a groundskeeper at the course, he parked at the slight incline, didnt put on brakes, he was trying to get a deck down since the jacobsen was kinda old as hell. while he was trying to force a forward deck down. Doing that it made the jacobsen rock aft and fro, so it rolled backwards. Idiot tried to run around the back and stop it. The jacobsen was easily 2500?-3500 pounds machine, his ankle and legs was promptly ran over. Idiot was okay though. Good thing was the decks was off ground. the blades barely shaved his body. (it wasnt PTO powered blades, rather a helical push type) He got up start limping toward the runaway jacobsen. My friend joked that " in my mind i could imagine that old guy running after a smoking golf cart from film Falling Down, except this time, its the idiot trying to chase after a runaway mower with broken ankles" Oh and jacobsen buried itself into treeline.

Man on bike doesn't realize there is a car coming the opposite direction. Head on collision with an elderly woman, with the bike going well over 60mph. Poor guy died on impact, right beside my boyfriend. He was only 18 years old.

I do not feel bad for him at all. I have absolutely no sympathy for people who don’t wear seatbelts, then die in a car crash. Wear your fucking seatbelt.
Moral of the story: wear your seatbelt, or I don’t give a shit that you died.
Edit: good thing I comment on youtube and not Reddit… this comment would not fly on reddit

Okay why the absolute hell would you cut buns open with a saw? They never not come presliced so you can just separate the bun halves by pulling them apart with your hands. This is true for both burger and hotdog buns

A bunch of burnt bodies of people that Approached a crashed truck carrying a gas pipe which exploted.

I wonder if leaving a flaming truck on the side of the road a crime? I mean he left but he left it there so he could treated ASAP for his burns. Whether or not he is a criminal up for debate but there is doubt the guy is STUPID. LOL

One of my highschool friends jumped off of a haybale at a party, landed wrong, and broke his leg so bad it had to be amputated. Not even particularly stupid, just bad luck
