2014 Hyundai Tucson 2.0L. MIL Flashing, Loss Of Power Code P1326

- This 2014 Tucson came in with a complaint of the MIL Flashing and reduced engine power. Scanning revealed P1326 Knock Sensor activity. Initially I could not even find a mention of P1326 in Identifix but a search of Google found this: • P1326 In Hyundai/Kia v...
It appears that Hyundai has a problem with engine failures caused by excessive rod bearing clearance which can result in a catastrophic engine failure which could lead to a fire when a connecting rod comes through the side of the block. This car was recalled and reprogrammed in November 21 to add the Knock detection capability to the ECM. There does not appear to be any engine noise and the vehicle is well maintained. I did find a TSB claiming aftermarket oil filters could be causing this so installed an OE filter. If the problem returns I will send the car to the dealership for possible warranty.
Thanks so much for the shout out! Glad my videos were able to shed some light to both yourself and your customer. Subscribed!
I have a 2015 tuscon. I have had the same issue since Nov 2021 when they fixed the Knock sensor recall. Huyndai dealership haven't been able to totally fix the issue. The rod bearing wasn't worn out, they replaced stuff in the engine (I am not good with vehicles so not sure exactly). 1 day after it was fixed, the check engine light was flashing again. I took it back, they changed all the wiring in the engine. Back on, they replaced the knock sensor. A day later, check engine light flashing again, then they replaced the engine harness assembly. Back on again the same day I got it back from the dealership. Then they replaced the catalytic converter and after that it had been ok for 2weeks, and back on flashing again. So I just got it back 2 days ago and they said they reprogrammed the Knock sensor because there was an update last week.
So I have been having the aame issue, and them not able to make it gone completely. I am curious if you were able to find a solution for this 2014 one and that the issue never came back.
They always did my services so I am assuming they were using their own oil filter.
They did change my motor that first time the check engine light was flashing but it didn't solve the issue.
Same issue since Nov 2021 until now. It does work now but who knows what will happen after 2 days or 1 week. I am hoping it works for good.
Here's my take on the problem. The engines are or were prone to connecting rod bearing failure and tended to blow up. If the vehicle was running at cruising speeds this failure could cause a connecting rod to break, punch a hole in the block spewing oil on the hot Catalyst and catching on 🔥. The recall involves checking for internal engine wear and replacing the engine if necessary as well as reprogramming the ECM to use the detonation (knock) sensor the "listen" for engine knock and as a protective measure flash the MIL and cut engine power. Even if you shut it off and restart it the power won't return unless you clear the code. The knock sensor is a piezoelectric sensor that generates an AC frequency who's amplitude and frequency vary with engine noise. It was originally designed to hear detonation due to low grade fuel and retard the timing. I believe the updated programming which enhances the knock sensor sensitivity is too sensitive. The wire to the knock sensor is in the same harness as the fuel injectors and can pick up EMI due to the injectors firing. It may also be picking up interference from a bad diode in the alternator. Hopefully they come up with a fix. My custome has not had an issue as far as I know. Unfortunately you just have to keep on them to address this.
@@PhillipBailey hopefully, it has been a stressful half year. Thanks for providing some explanations about it.
@@haingorakotondravah Did you have to pay for all those "repairs" ? or was it covered by Hyundai ?
Had same issue on mine, I think he is right. The sensor is to sensitive, they fixed my engine when it got seized and had no problems for about 6 months and about a week after I went in for an update this code kept coming up. They told me that I need to change the sensor and if that doesn't fix it that I would need an engine. So I changed the sensor and the code came back again, so now I just clear the code when it comes on so that I can drive the car normally because its a pain to drive in limp mode. I have been doing this for almost a year now
Got my motor replaced in my 2014 Tucson for free at the dealer due to the class action lawsuit regarding this issue. The engine will seize up at some point. The ECM update, was really in my opinion, to put your vehicle in "slow" mode when its about to fail and prevent more dangerous situations and lawsuits. They made that knock detection super sensitive.
Silver lining is, "The settlement extends the Powertrain Warranty to a Lifetime Warranty for the engine short block
assembly, upon completion of the Knock Sensor Detection System Update. It also provides a free
recall inspection for any recalled vehicles not yet inspected, regardless of current mileage or prior
repairs, and rental car reimbursement or loaner vehicles for any vehicles that undergo engine
replacement. "
Good for you. My 2015 Tucson needed a new engine but i had to pay for it myself, this was in 2019. Reason being is because my car wasnt under warranty and it didnt fall under the class action lawsuit because my car has a different engine.
@@thatoneperson234 how much you pay for the new engine and has your car any problems with new engine??
My 2017 did this and the dealership just changed the oil filter. The day it did this it had just come back from a recall fix. So I have no idea what's up
What was the resolution for this vehicle ? Because this has happened to us recently. Thank you.
Unfortunately there is no resolution. I put an oem filter on it and vleared the code and it's been fine so far. I believe the reprogramming of the ECM to use the know sensors to listen for rod knock is too sensitive and the code is tripping falsely.
Easiest way to get to 2014 Hyundai Tuscan starter

I just took my 15 Tucson in as well with the same issue with that code. I’m hoping it’s just the knock sensor but I have no clue. The car your workings is doing the same mine is. I hope I hear good things tomorrow. Do you have any updates from working on it?
Yes an update... I put an oe oil filter on it and cleared the code. I believe the knock sensor is falsely reporting but we will see what happens. She had the update done to the ECM in November 21.
@@PhillipBailey I had my ecm updated as well. We’ll see what happens
Hi, any updates for your Tucson? Currently I had a silent recall for my 2013 Veloster Base and after a month my CIL starts flashing and I got reduced power. Nothing unusual like a harsh hammer sound is coming from my engine and I did replaced it my knock sensor with a genuine one. It's very confusing for me...
@@haaxxx9 I did decided to go to a local auto shop I’ve been through before and they ran codes and it came up knock sensor code. The sensor wasn’t broken or anything but after they cleared the code the limp mode went away and engine light also. They said the sensor must’ve felt the vibration or knock and it spazzed out. They told me with the 2.0 engine is it does that.
Same error code with reduced engine power. Just had 2017 Tuscan serviced for a recall on Feb22, 2022….
👍👍👍
Awesome- impending doom indicator
I have Tucson 2.0L year 2017 , had same issue , sudden lose of power , vehicle turned in a safe slow drive mode , after diagnostic done code same as your P1326 , Hyundai replaced blook engine but then after just about 800 km same thing happen!
I have to bring Tucson back to Huyndai dealership to figure out whats going on with a vehicle!
I've talked to a master tech at the local dealership. The reflash enhances the knock sensor sensitivity to allow it to hear potential engine knock since these engines were prone to blowing up. Trouble is sometimes electrical interference on the knock sensor circuit causes the problem. Running a new wire away from the injector wires between the knock sensor and computer may help as might a new knock sensor. Also be sure to use an OE oil filter as there is a bulletin about AM oil filters causing issues. Good luck
P0326. Same problem with my 2014 yesterday
If its knocking it may be under warranty.
