    The 4S to 6S requirement likely has to do with the regulator they used having a higher input range requirement, say 12-24vdc to supply a stable 5vdc (or possibly even 9vdc since it is USB-C) output at the amperage the GoPro needs to run. Also, they make a replacement door that has a hole for passing thru the charger. I've been doing this on my GP9 for a while now. Works great.

      I think the 4S-6S requirement is also to simplify the power selection circuit. There are three input line diodes at the 4S, 5S and 6S high ends 7:15 and selection circuits to make sure it's using all of the *present* cells in that range. If it allowed 3S it would need another such diode and more complex selection.

  • @davidrgilson

    There's a simpler DIY version of this. Get a usb cable, cut the PC end off and run it off the 5V on your FC, PDB, or VTX.
    Edit: On my long range quad, I power the go pro from the 5V supply on my TBS HV VTX.

    There are 3rd party battery doors available that have the USB port cut out (useful for long night lapses). It won't help if you're under water but it might keep some dirt out of the battery compartment and keep you from completely loosing the sd card (even if it pops out slightly). been looking at doing this for a while on the 6 and 7, i think i remember a special little door to cover sd/usb/hdmi door, bit worried how crash proof it all is. seems like it would be easy enough to design something without the usb stick out so bad..... wheres my dremel tool?

    hi, after watching the video i ordered one cable and tried it on my hero 10, but the gopro said that the battery is to low it has be an 5V batt and it will turn off, my lipo is a 6S 1000mah 100C, do you have any idea? thank you

  • @Shooter_FPV

    Can you wire this somehow to the battery leads on the ESC? What's going to happen is the battery will be ejected in a crash, yank on that cord, and rip out of the GoPro, most likely wrecking it...

    Is there any inherent risk of power spikes or drops when running directly off of the battery like this? A drop would lose footage, so that'd be no good. The board doesn't seem to have a capacitor to smooth the flow out, but also this is coming off of the balance lead and not the XT-60 (holy crap, I can't believe that is possible actually) and I don't know whether (but I do assume) that makes a big difference.

    Hello . Some people have mentioned the GoPro not working normal after the use of this adapter,with the stock GoPro battery ! The screen is flickering,lines and colors not showing correct and they we're fully functional before the power mod adapter from the quad! I have the cable but I am not using it don't want to take the risk.

    Instead of usb could you cut it off and do a ph2.0 connector on the end of it? For an even lighter geprc go pro or smo 4k since we already are losing the water proof ability, or are they different voltage input?

    Could you possibly 3D print a tpu battery door with a cutout for the USB-C for it? Or is it magnetically secured?

    I made something similar using an iFlight 5v regulator and 2 wire usb-c cable to power my GoPro for extra long time lapses. I can run my GoPro off a car battery if I wanted.

    Joshua, are you getting the Gopro to power up without having to dismiss the date and time screen each time? That's one downside I've encountered at least with the Hero 9. I'd love to be able to turn that off if you know how. I have mine on a Badger and I extended the Iflight wires a bit and ran them under the top plate and out the back and made a thin tpu piece to hold the balance connector. I just leave the usb c plugged in and plug and unplug the balance connector at the back. There are light 3d printed doors on thingiverse for the battery bay that will keep the sd card from escaping as well. Another easy weight saving is unscrewing the built in Gopro mount on the bottom of the camera. I think it was another 5-7 grams just for that.

    I bought one of these a few weeks back but haven’t used it yet. Somebody had mentioned that it wasn’t drawing the same current from all connected cells and it killed a battery.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  2 роки тому +2

      That is not this exact product. That is probably another similar product that only pulls from a single cell. I tested this product to confirm whether it would kill a cell and it draws from the entire battery not just one cell.

    • @PAYNEFPV
      @PAYNEFPV 2 роки тому

      @@JoshuaBardwell Yea I believe I got the same one as you. Gonna have to check now. I guess another easy way to check the draw would be to use a perfectly balanced pack and run the GoPro for a while and check the cells afterward.

    I've been using them for about a year and I've used 6 because they wear down so fast just with normal use (NOT by getting chopped with props), so for me this cable costs $45 a year, but the flight improvement that you get is really worth it 👍
