Just a heads up ' You might have to re-assign motor directions in the Bluejay configurator if any motors were reversed before flashing . The configurator set all my rigs motors to normal direction by default when I switched over.
Nice point! Also happened to me but want to give a heads up If in betaflight you have the motors reversed, then you should leave the settings on the ESC as normal, because from what I saw on my quad, if you put reversed on the ESC configurator and reversed on Betaflight, the go back to normal, my guess is betaflight reverses it and then the ESC reverses it back to normal, so in most cases having it on normal after flashing should be ok if you configured the motors with betaflight Still always test on the bench with props off and see the direction to where they spin
I licensed JESC for all my BL_HeliS escs because i wanted to support joelucid for this innovation. One someone does it it is easy for others to do the same. But someone has to start. He also brought F3 FCs back to life with betaflight F3 performance edition, which he hand-compiled with love up to BF41 including RPM filtering. The alternative would have been $30-$40 per quad to upgrade to F4 and BL_Heli32 - or to go without RPM filtering on old quads.

my intergalactic bando island video is with that quad, my apex still has jesc for a reallly long time, succex 45amp esc refuses to die i am thankful, but when it goes, it lived a damn epic life lol
Hi. IF someone have problem with enabling bidirectional Dshot after Bluejay update . Try manualy add line set dshot_bidir = ON and set motor_poles = 12 (count your magnet in motor) after dont forget to taype SAVE command. BF lower than 4.3 beta got a bug so it wont save changes for bidirectional Dshot. Slider under bidirectional Dshot wil not show status activated but when you check that line it is enabled. Allso motors show zero errors Happy flying.
I just switched to Bluejay 16.0 running at PWM 96K from JMaverick running at 48K. Made my 4 year-old, 100mm, 2S whoop fly like a totally new machine - and I get a full _50 seconds_ more flight time! Definitely a must-have.
Be aware when using ESC configurator it runs on a chome app which can run into problems opening and closing serial ports and may run into issues flashing. Just be diligent and it should eventually flash them all.
I used Microsoft Edge which seemed to flash fine, but now motor 3 is stuttering on pwr up although it's fine in Beta motors tab. Could this be the issue you mentioned ?
@@craigsosebee6335 Yeah, flashed bk to BL Heli and made do w the 2min flights thus far... Using the UAV whoop tune and would like 3-4 min flights like the 85 builds I've done in the past. This is a BETA BNF

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! I have been using your Betaflight series for my first quad build. And it led me here. Oh! BTW, if I slow down your videos to 75%, your voice is hilarious! 🙂
I going to toss this for discussion since im under the assumption its true. 48khz is more resilient to amperage spikes due to the higher frequency giving it a faster response rate against spikes. I have yet to burn an ESC running 48khz and having great success on my 3s 2.5 and 3 inchers on 1105s and 1204 and it does add more efficient on those motors. I haven't played with any 14mm stator motors to give my opinion on those. I went through quite an a few 16x16 ESCs before the upgrade when jazz maverick fist came out and haven't burned one yet. Infact I have the same stacks for almost a year with countless crashes. I haven't seen anyone discussing durability but that is my hypothesis and would love to see other people's opinions
Thanks for the video. Helped me a lot. I flashed Blujay on my BLHeli_S ESC and now i not have any issue anymore... (spinning up motors in a disarmed mode)
As I save up for the quad I want, it runs BLHeli_S, and so I will probably be upgrading it to Bluejay. That is just so cool. I actually didn't know that S didn't support bidirectional Dshot until today.
great video thanks ive installed bluejay on my new basher build and a custom zelda startup, like you the most important feature thanks again. Again thanks for all you do, it has helped me thru some extremely hard times in my life right now thank you very much
What timing 😂😂 I started tuning my whoop for the next race and flashed this yesterday esc 1 and 4 did not go right and said incompatible. It still flew so I kept at it figured I would force it and I got working all 4 esc's flashed and working. And I gained almost 1:10 flight time!
Great news, I'm replacing a AIO FC that I've already flashed with JESC and although I'd like to support innovation, I really don't want to buy a new set of licenses for the same quad. BlueJay it is!
Duude just watching you enjoy the new ESC ringtone hahaha gold! Pretty excited for flashing this to the firefly 2s tonight after work, I think I bricked my ESC last night trying to flash with the web browser BHELI configurator, man I've been troubleshooting this build for 30 hours now , ALL CAUSE I WANNA FLY 3D .... and I'm a noob
I would not suggest changing the ESC firmware unless you can connect an Arduino to the tiny little pads on the ESC and flash it via the C2 interface if the update fails. ESC Configurator bricked 2 of my ESCs and I had to flash both of them several times using the C2 interface before they were detected again. That was a real pain in the ass.
I flashed my 5" to BlueJay a few days ago. I just can't remember now if I checked to see if they spun up in BF or if the quad would arm. I thought I had done all that. Anyway, now the motors won't spin up in BF nor will they arm. They just click when I raise the throttle in BF. I get the standard ESC tones when it plugs in, however. . It bears mentioning that I flew this quad on Sunday 1/9/2022 prior to this change. It took a crash and a couple motors, the USB port and a portion of the FC got pretty caked with mud. But after spending time cleaning it, everything worked fine. I just wish I could remember if I tested everything after flashing it with Bluejay. Bi-directional D-Shot is enabled. They are older 2205/2600KV motors. The ESCs are older DYS XSD 30A external and there is no option for Min and Max startup. Unless that is just for whoop sized quads. The FC has a radio link to the TX because everything works in the Rx and Modes tabs in BF. Is my hardware too old for such a sophisticated change? Should I just go back to BLHeli_S?
Update: After several times of unplugging and plugging back in. I reflashed the ESCs to an older version (14) and now everything seems to be working. I checked the motors spinning using Bluejay and also using BF. I have no clue what caused the previous failure. I enabled the Mark Spatz BF presets for a 5" so I'm curious to see how it flies since I've done no tuning with it.

I got to say so far everything has been smooth sailing with my Mobula7... but this BLHeli_S on my Tyro79 is killing me... I flashed the firmware and now only 2 of my ESCs show on BLHeliS... this is my new quad (it came pre-assembled) and I had it all set up and running... until I upgraded to get the extra goodies of BLUEJAY. I have been looking online for a fix as to where I may have gone wrong... the only thing I found is some dude online said that the ESC type should be S-H-50 for my FC on the Tyro79... I am lost here...
I ran into a similar issues when I tried to flash JESC on my Blheli_S (J-H-50) I lost all the ESCs and it turned out that I just didn't have enough juice left in my lipo while flashing it. Make sure that you're supplying 12 volts to your setup while flashing the firmware or doing just about anything on your ESC configurator!
I destroyed 3-4 motors and possibly the ESC today after I enabled bidirectional DShot and the drone brought the motors to 100% throttle on its own in a disarmed mode. I explain it in my new video. But i have not flashed my ESCs with BlueJay. Maybe this was my mistake ?
@@oleg146 It's true the memory is limited. BlueJay freed up memory by cleaning up the code and only use dshot150 and dshot300 options for the code. Longer music tunes could exceed the memory limit and will be chopped off.
@@o3rMeNs yep I got it but still don’t understand how jazzmac managed to implement ability to change pwm without reflashing each time, that’s pretty confusing.
The pwm frequency selection just needs a little more code change and wasn't currently a priority. As for tunes, there's more than enough space for even longer tunes but the ESCs won't start up until the tune is played, so left it at 60 notes iirc
Hi there I flashed my fc to the newest version betaflight 4.4.3. Now I am unable to connect to ESC configurator anymore, it says in the open port selection when I plug in the USB cable to my quad, betaflight stm32f7x2. When I hit this port and plug in the battery, I am unable to read my settings. Betaflight is turned off, so no other connection to different programs. Do you guys have any idea how I can fix that? In the past in the open serial port my quad always showed up as speedybeef7miniv2 and not as betaflightstm32f7x2? I don’t have any problems, connecting my quad to betaflight and make some configuration in beta flight, everything is working fine in betaflight, but not in the ESC configurator.
What PWM for a Flywoo Explorer 4LR (48 or 96)? It comes with: Goku Versatile the F405 Pro Mini Stack - F405 FC + 40A ESC. Also, Thrust Linear = 25 ? Or not ? Thanks 🤘
So I upgraded my BL Heli S ESC to BlueJay and the motors began acting weird. one motor would lose power and not match the other 3, two others would gain power even though the throttle remained still (throttle runaway?) What can I do to fix this?
Oh no! I messed up my Meteor85. Tried flashing Bluejay, and my motors won’t spin up anymore. Tried the CLI dump and rebinding, nothing. Do I need new motors?
I flashed BlueJay on my ESCs and ESC 3 started to fail and it doesn't connect. After I unmounted the quad, the ESC 3 is working perfectly but the ESC 4 started to fail ... What the heck? I think the ESC are ok but there is some software problem somewhere ... Can anybody help me ? Help me Joshua !!! @Joshua Bardwell, ideas?
Blue Jay will over write all of you custom settings like motor direction so be careful! Your quad might taz like mine did due to the fact that mine was wired wrong from the factory and two motors had to have the direction reversed. When I flashed Bluejay it set it back to default and the quad did the crazy dance. Blue Jay should keep the settings when it reads them or at the very least let you know that all custom settings will be lost!
I did this, only one motor was spinning and showing a 0% error and the other 3 were 100%. I tried to flash them back to blheli_s firmware, but now those 3 ESCs are gone and not readable. Please someone help me.
How do I use this to calibrate my ESC? One of my motors is only going (exactly) half as fast as the others at all times in all states. I was told I need to do that but I have an AIO and betaflight does not seem to recognize the min-max slider check for calibration that way.
@@M.TTT. Sadly no. That quad is still on the shelf and I can't figure out the issue. I have posted on reddit and several other forums for help too. taken pictures of everything, shown blackbox data from attempted flights, the works. It's a real thorn in my side.
I flashed Bluejay to my NBD Beebrain BLV3 and it seems really messed up. I tried to flash back and it's still messed up. Don't know what to do now. EDIT: OK I feel real stupid.
In jazzmac configurator you can change pwm frequency without reuploading firmware each time
yes, but you need to be running Jazzmack's firmware for that.
@@marekfiferna obviously, he just mentioned that BlHeli_S escs don’t have enough memory for this options. But seems they do or I got him wrong.
Amazing, can't wait to try this out.
Flashed to BlueJay a couple weeks ago. Couldn't ask for a nicer upgrade.
we lower the timing when the motor de-syncs. too low of a timing for a motor, will cause your motor to heat up. only touch if you have de-sync issues.
Hi there
I flashed my fc to the newest version betaflight 4.4.3.
Now I am unable to connect to ESC
configurator anymore, it says in the open port selection when I plug in the USB cable to my quad, betaflight stm32f7x2.
Bluejay for the win. Good stuff JB #StayPhly
Tried flashing mine to Bluejay but I got 100% error and no response from the ESCs. Any idea what I may have done wrong? I do get startup tone.
Did you find a fix for this? Mine is doing the same thing after updating from BLHeli
Thanks JB. This was very easy to follow.
What PWM for a Flywoo Explorer 4LR (48 or 96)? It comes with: Goku Versatile the F405 Pro Mini Stack - F405 FC + 40A ESC.
Also, Thrust Linear = 25 ? Or not ?
Thanks 🤘
So I upgraded my BL Heli S ESC to BlueJay and the motors began acting weird. one motor would lose power and not match the other 3, two others would gain power even though the throttle remained still (throttle runaway?) What can I do to fix this?
the day has come! I hope my mamba stack can do this
Thanks Joshua
LEARNING LEARNING SO SO MUCH MUCH
How many khertz for 3” cinewhoop squirt 48
thanks for showing this! Just saved my a lot of time!
A cool program + that you can use on your phone 👍
Hey Joshua, I wonder with the demise of BLHeli 32 if BlueJay will be rewritten to make it compatible with those ESCs
Bluejay is based on the BLheli_S project, which only runs on 8-bit ESC's. It's not really feasible to rewrite it to run on 32-bit ESC's.
Again, really useful information here!
I tried this on my rs160 and my esc stopped working after about 6 plug ins i was able to get it back to blheli any idea what i may have done wrong?
I don't think I'm going to test it out more but I'm pretty sure 96 let's more noise in my video as well.
Oh no! I messed up my Meteor85. Tried flashing Bluejay, and my motors won’t spin up anymore. Tried the CLI dump and rebinding, nothing. Do I need new motors?
The "Post-Credits" Scene!!! :) nice
Thanks for the run down on this!
So what protocol should you use in beta flight after the blujay flash?
DSHOT600 or DSHOT300 like always.
@Joshua Bardwell, ideas?
I set my beeping strength to 255 and all my motors burned instantly don't set it to 255
Blue Jay will over write all of you custom settings like motor direction so be careful!
That’s my startup sound too… I know how important it is to you JB. . . I know. . .
How do I use this to calibrate my ESC? One of my motors is only going (exactly) half as fast as the others at all times in all states. I was told I need to do that but I have an AIO and betaflight does not seem to recognize the min-max slider check for calibration that way.
ever find out?
@@M.TTT.
Was misinterpreting the behavior of the motors without the props on. So now I have Bluejay running just fine with bidirectional Dshot.
I thought the Bluejay stand alone flasher is not maintained anymore. ??
that is what i read also.
I put this on my babytooth months back. Trips me out every time I plug in due to the diff tones lol.
Dont know how to thank you Joshua!
Thanks for the vid but I'm having trouble with bi directional and rpm.im on a furyf4osd with a 4in1 blheli s (flashed with blue jay 0.16 and flashed with blheli M 16.19 before that ) I have tried to turn bi directional tab on and save, but it turn's back off and have no error on motor tab and no gyro rpm filter🙄running firmware 4.1.1 and betaflight configurator 10.8.0🤔
did you ever find out the problem ?
@@chrisnoren777 I ended up putting it on my friends computer and it worked, it's still says it off on my computer but it definitely is ,I think it's something to do with 4.1.1 and the BF configuratior 10.8.0
