I was very hyped for this game back in 2020. I beat the game when it released before the patches and updates, and I did not use the dash a lot. All these factors lead to me feeling slightly disappointed, but in retrospect, this game is a retro masterpiece that I would recommend to anyone wanting a challenge. Also fun fact: Cyber Shadow's OST was originally going to handled by Jake Kaufman and Pentadrandgle. The music for the First cyber shadow trailer was done by Jake Kaufman. (I’m an Indie game music enthusiast) I randomly discovered your channel while doing research on sonic origins and on whether or not I should buy it. You are doing a great job making videos and you earned my subscription. (Fellow good music enjoyer) (Also I recommend checking out "Steel Assault")
Funny you say that, Steel Assault was a day one purchase for me. It was slated to be the next video after “Sonic P-06 is Rewriting History”, but it did so well, that I had to postpone the Steel Assault review and prioritize Sonic. It’s fully recorded though, so once I have a break in between, I can go back and finish it!
I've gotta say man, i can tell the ammount of effort put into this video, i really enjoyed the whole commentary. I barely noticed the lenght of the video, i just sat down, and really got into the video. You should be proud!
Happy to see newer retro-style games getting attention, these "throw-back" titles remind me of a simpler time and playing these somehow feels more honest in comparison to most of today's mainstream games. Also, your video has excellent presentation, it feels like you put a lot of thought into the summary and dialogue of the video, consistent with the fight and rage review video and your newer guides, it is very high quality. My only request would be that you make more content like this!
I was rewatching your Sonic Origins Plus video and UA-cam decided to recommend your backlog of older videos. Really glad it did because I've never heard of this game and it looks great. Definitely will be picking it up.
This. This is why I subscribed. No, not Cyber Shadow--I've never heard of it--it's that you could make watching a documentary on paint drying (by Animal Planet of course) fun(ny) and entertaining. I have found my meme compilation replacement, and it's even better than that but without being too vulgar or raunchy like a number of other UA-camrs rely on whose only ace up their sleeve is a 69 joke. This is what the most perfect of humor is: intelligent, and opportunistic in its execution, but not excessive. That and also the honest and thorough reviews. If only Steam reviews were this good.
I know I'm late to commenting here, but this is honestly the best-produced video I have ever seen from you. Don't let your viewers keep you from making the content you want to make, because this is gold.
genuinely awesome video, i could seriously watch you just talk about any game you had genuine interest in. still the most underrated gaming channel on youtube in my opinion dude, please keep up the great work ;-;
oh i didnt realize this was actually just uploaded, i was just binging your stuff. this is great and proves that you could talk about anything and i would love it
Damn. This is the best video I've seen from your channel, and it's actually sad it didn't get the same attention as your Sonic videos. I really hope you give this long review format another shot at some point, this stuff is really good.
I try to find little ways to promote it, but ultimately, the popularity of a game does dictate a lot of the related video's success. I'm glad you like it, I have many more games like this that I plan to cover at some point. I can't guarantee it'll be as lengthy, but the style will be the same. I've got a 25 minute one cooking right now
I actually really enjoyed the story. A lot of it is told with subtlety, either through environmental details or text logs that you must piece together. I found it all so intriguing I replayed the game a second time immediately just to analyze it all with further scrutiny, and that rewarded me with lots of little details. Almost like Dark Souls in this respect.
This was fantastic. I’m a recent sub, You have a real talent for long form, in-depth reviews. I would love to you explore more of your favourite games in this format. Maybe not as long. I can only imagine the amount of work you put into this. Great work man. Keep it up.
Coming back to this, I'm so glad you made this. You've introduced me and a friend to one of our favorite Side scrollers of all time! I would easily put this game up with the ranks with Shovel Knight and The Messenger. Thank you so much for making reviews like this, I personally appreciate them!! I'd say another really good, and underrated game, would be Devil Engine.
I dont really play games like this alot, but good vid mate. It feels like ur actually passionate about this, whilst making realm videos feels like a chore for you. Do what you love buddy.
I loved this game and while I didn't agree with everything I'm glad you were harsh on it because you know it could have been better. It's great that you pointed out that there's no official music release. I emailed both YCG and the composer and they said that YCG has control over its release and it "wasn't in the pipeline" for now, which is a shame because of how great it is. Maybe if enough people are vocal about it they will make it happen. I plan on contacting them again after their cyber shadow art contest because it's a shame to focus of the artistic side of the game without letting us fully appreciate the soundtrack.
I agree that this game needs more content in the future which was proven from the incompleteness of the "Extras" as "Feats" are the only thing it had. As it stands, no New Game Plus, no Challenge Mode, no Boss Attack Mode, no Sound Test, no Time Attack Mode, and no ability to copy save data. With Shovel Knight, while it starts off as a vanilla when it first launched, it got more content as time has passed(Especially for it's expansion pack) until it's end that was King of Cards expansion. Cyber Shadow should do the same or similar. What we have was a good spiritual successor of Ninja Gaiden and any other ninja games which still need a lot to be added to make it more worth as a $20. Hopefully Yacht Club Games & Mechanical Head Studios take notes of this important video.
@@bickuribox12 Ugh! It seems that all version of Cyber Shadow has been updated to Version 1.04 which I've figured it out as my Switch version automatically got updated(As I'm lucky not to do the firmware update due to the infamous Error Code 2123-1502). Instead of the major updates however, what we got was a challenge in which we were supposed to find 3 Easter Eggs. The main prize for getting all Easter Eggs will get you the a special in-game skill which makes you "worthy of a true ninja master". DO I LOOK LIKE I WANTED THAT WHEN I'M GETTING IT BY THE TIME I'VE REACHED THE END OF MY PLAYTHROUGH!? That's not exactly what I really needed. Was it really hard for Yacht Club Games & Mechanical Head Studios to give us Time Attack Mode, New Game Plus, Challenge Mode, or even Boss Attack Mode? You guys can have fun with that kind of challenge, but not for me. I really wanted to keep playing Cyber Shadow, but that presence of Error Code 2123-1502 still lingers in the Switch's Firmware Update thus I'm too hesitant to touch my Switch until the next Firmware Update removes that issue. I don't plan to download anything in the future except for the upcoming Kazuya Mishima DLC of Super Smash Bros Ultimate. I was hoping that after this challenge is over, that 3 Easter Eggs & that "Secret In-Game Skill" will still be kept for players who are curious.
50:00 you mean that this is your last **long** scripted video for a while, right? RIGHT? we still need your amazing scripted content. Heck, dub an anime character we've never heard of. Just make stuff.
This was a great review/video essay. I love this game. I agree with pretty much all your critiques, but despite it all something about this game just clicks for me. The combination of the Batman NES aestictic and overall dark art style and fast gameplay the game is just fantastic and imo very underrated.
The nostalgia hit me like a truck at the mention of Shatterhand, it's so underrated and it deserves more attention. Maybe we can get a video on Shatterhand sometime in the future?
43:27 The purpouse to that secret room is nothing more than a reference to *Super Mario's* secret room on _World 1-2_ 44:10 A reference to *Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles*
Seeing this, I would highly recommend CrossCode. Great music, great characters, fantastic puzzles, and the gameplay and controls are very good. It's for sure more metroidvania than Cyber Shadow, but it also allows for a lot more flexibility with your playstyle than it.
I’m really sad no refight option was added to the main menu as a completion reward because replaying the full game for the boss achievements isn’t something I’m doing, the extras having achievements and that’s it really paints a picture of post game content that was never fully realized that make me sadly not really want to replay and reconnect with this game. The missing bosses point I definitely felt, the first couple chapters I can tell you where one starts and the other begins but the later ones not really, the entire second half just felt like 1 big chapter at times
I'll be honest, I do agree with this video in the end that Cyber Shadow has a lot of untapped potential that it could work on to be a far more unique & solid experience than it already is. My controversial opinion on the matter is that, at the very least, Cyber Shadow is very much a solid game overall... Unlike The Messenger, which I believe flops hardcore once the metroidvania part starts since it fails miserably at being a metroidvania and ends up murdering all of it's replay value because of it. And it's because of that statement that I would very much recommend that people avoid playing The Messenger and instead recommend Cyber Shadow instead for good ol' ninja fun. Oh, and also, I got very annoyed at the mention of Mega Man Rock and Roll... Cause I also believe that game to be bad, but that's probably one controversial take too far for one video. Otherwise, good, solid video.
i think the game really only appeals to specific type of audience. its very action packed and fast paced for a side scroller with a nice retro theme, but that in itself just makes it a good indie game plus the story is just bland; you know the story from the beginning, youre trying to save the world from robots and youre the sole survivor; so again, players dont need a reason to want to learn more; it all comes down to gameplay
Yo I know you are still busy with the superstars video, but how are you enjoying shadow generations? just wanted to know since I know that review ain’t coming in a while 😂
The beauty in that situation is, you will literally never take that same beating again because if you replay the game, you'll already be way better than when you started.
This is my favorite game of the generation. As a person who's completed the nes Ninja Gaiden trilogy and Hagane i didn't find the game too hard. Its challenging but not too hard. If it had limited continues it'd be hard but the checkpoints make it fair or forgiving. My only gripe is that it doesn't have a physical release.
Since this was uploaded I was always like "eh I'll just watch a rotmg-commentary instead." "maybe later" etc. but damn, I was missing out big time! Edit: now i wanna watch the other ones too LOL
