I'm glad the quirks of those reviews with remote Mike have been worked out and that the experiment has been fruitful. Always looking forward for reviews with Mike.
As a Knizia superfan myself, I have to say, my first game, I was a bit underwhelmed. I gave it another shot, as everyone should with Knizia games, and it started to open up for me. Mikes comments at the end echo mine. The downside though is that everytime I’ve played and taught this seemingly simple game, there’s always been at least one player who just doesn’t get it or doesn’t get it until the end and I understand that! It happened to me too! I just think it’s unfortunate that some people might bounce off It and not come back. I’ll say though that I’ve played it 5 times now with varying player counts (2, 3, 3, 3, 4) and the 4 player was the toughest one to make good decisions by the end. The board got really full in the last 10% of the game. 2 and 3 were more open, but that didn’t mean that the game was easier. I do have a strong desire to keep playing this, and keep playing with people who have played before. I imagine by game 10 or so, I’ll be ready to flip the board over and use the farmers, or use the herald moving variant. Definitely a lot to explore in this. Gameplay is pretty snappy too at 30-60 minutes depending on player count.
Mike is the man and I agree knizia is hitting on all cylinders lately. I’m buying everything he’s putting out latelty and it’s all been good. Easy buy for me. Definately my favorite designer lately.
kind of off topic, but does anyone know what game that is on the top shelf in Chris and Wendy's background, with the greenish box cover? The letters are cut off but it looks cool lol
I loved the way it looked when it was launched, but saw some comments of the gameplay of Babylonia still being more interesting (yet not that distant) than this, and decided to go for the latter.
Ero as a suffix translates loosely to "thingy" so cascadero would translate to cascading thingy It's not proper spanish, but thingy isn't proper English either
I just don’t understand why it isn’t so that the third person to connect gets even more points. It’s like the game design was cut short and could have blossomed a bit more
I own Babylonia, TTD, Blue Lagoon, Samurai, Tigris and Euphrates etc. I will be getting Cascadero as well. Knizia's best games play fairly quickly and the rules are easy to remember. Every few months I pull one out and give it a few plays. All of these games feel like different flavors of ice cream. I like ice cream but I don't always want vanilla.
@@westaylor7078 I am aware of Knizia and own some of his games as well and I agree with your statement. I am asking because im just at the point where I want to keep the collection small due to real estate of where to store them and want my collection to have games that have more diversity to them. I am still tempted to get one of these tho and was curious if there is one that is clearly better or at least which one feels more different than Babylonia.
@@zivpesso6293 Tigris and Euphrates is my favorite game so if you haven't tried that Knizia, that's my recommendation. As far as TTD, Cascadero and Babylonia... I really like TTD but it's simple rule set makes most games feel very similar. I think Cascadero would have more variety with the 2 different boards. Just my opinion but I would choose Cascadero over TTD.
I think his four best are T&E, Samurai, Babylonia, and this. Of those two, Babylonia and T&E are the most similar, and the rest have related but different feels.
Through the Desert's map scales down for smaller player counts, but both are solid. Ultimately, it depends if you want a more "pure" abstract like Through the Desert or if you want tracks and cascading bonuses found here. ~Chris
Don't know how new this is but the dune popcorn bucket in the back is incredible. I would be taking popcorn out whispering "I hold at your neck the gom jabbar" and "fear is the mind killer" the whole time
He moved back to Indiana over a year ago. He introduces his solo videos as coming from the Dice Tower Mid-West Annex. He is still part of the core Dice Tower crew, so they bring him in remote for these group reviews.
It’s because he’s not in Florida right then, he moved to Indiana last year. Doesn’t bother me at all -they were all by themselves during the COVID years.
It's such a boring gameplay! I'm surprised they even remake this game! The mechanic is boring and the gameplay is boring! I don't see ANYTHING fun about this game! I'm surprised they gave it such a high scoring!👎🏻👎🏻
Knizia has a very minimalistic design philosophy, I tend to like a lot of his games because of that but I agree that a lot of them would be overlooked if not for the name on the box.
I dunno, I think it depends on where you are coming from. I love Through the Desert and Mille Fiori, and this looks like a combination of those two games, both from the same designer. I am very hyped to try this.

If Mike wasn't in this review there would have been riots. No surprise on his rating!

How do you compare this against other Knizia's games?
I really like it! I’d put it with Babylonia and Through the Desert in terms of tile layers.
This is giving me some Hansa Teutonica vibes. The simple actions and player interactions seem right up my alley
Thank you for the review! I would have appreciated hearing - especially from Mike - where this ranks among Knizia's best regarded "tile-layers".

❤Mike! Glad we are seeing more of you these days!
Ending? Classic Chris and Mike. 10 out of 10.
Great overview, Mike!
kind of off topic, but does anyone know what game that is on the top shelf in Chris and Wendy's background, with the greenish box cover? The letters are cut off but it looks cool lol
That one is Kabuto Sumo, which does have a super cool cover by Kwanchai Moriya. It's the coin-pushing style game.
In French, 'cascadeur' means stuntman.
I loved the way it looked when it was launched, but saw some comments of the gameplay of Babylonia still being more interesting (yet not that distant) than this, and decided to go for the latter.
Looks cool, but I fear it won't be a Babylonia, to where it will stick around as a hidden favourite.
Nice one with the Simpsons reference at the end, Chris.
Ero as a suffix translates loosely to "thingy" so cascadero would translate to cascading thingy

Have not watched the review yet, but im very excited for cadcadero so I'm going to imagine it's all 8+
I just don’t understand why it isn’t so that the third person to connect gets even more points. It’s like the game design was cut short and could have blossomed a bit more
Does anyone know why Mike is not filming on location with them lately?
so if you already own Babylonia is this worth getting? if yes, this or through the desert?

Through the Desert - easy recommendation. It is a proven game.

This comes out in September, right? Was the release moved up?
The estimated delivery date was September but we are way ahead of schedule. Should deliver/release in April for US and May/June worldwide.
Nick, you beautiful man. What a nice surprise :)
Day 1 purchase for me!
is cascadito the roll and write version of this? same gameplay? fill in hexes in a map?
Fill in hexes on a map, yes, but there's four different maps. We'll review it when more people have had a chance to play all the maps.
This or Through the Desert for 2p/3p?
Through the Desert's map scales down for smaller player counts, but both are solid. Ultimately, it depends if you want a more "pure" abstract like Through the Desert or if you want tracks and cascading bonuses found here. ~Chris

😂😂😂
Did you guys also play Cascadito?
Yes, and there will be a separate review but we wanted to make sure everyone got a chance to play all the maps.

So why is Mike mostly remote now?
He moved back to Indiana over a year ago. He introduces his solo videos as coming from the Dice Tower Mid-West Annex. He is still part of the core Dice Tower crew, so they bring him in remote for these group reviews.
It looks like Coimbra, but without the fun part
I worship at that altar.
Am I the only one not liking the quick camera change when Mike is talking ? Why not just make it so we can see everyone at the same time like the news
It’s because he’s not in Florida right then, he moved to Indiana last year. Doesn’t bother me at all -they were all by themselves during the COVID years.
Why do you call him KA NITZIA?
It's such a boring gameplay! I'm surprised they even remake this game! The mechanic is boring and the gameplay is boring! I don't see ANYTHING fun about this game! I'm surprised they gave it such a high scoring!👎🏻👎🏻
It's not a remake, and it can be boring for some people and rewarding for others. That's just how opinions work.
One man‘s turd is another man‘s sausage
Yes prolific ... make 1000 games and 20 are actually good lol
Oh come on! This game looks okay, at best. If this was designed by a dude named Greg, there is no way this would be scored high.
If it was designed by Greg it. . . it probably wouldn't be very fun.
Realizing I don't actually disagree with you, but I just don't think Knizia is ALL hype, he must be doing something right
Knizia has a very minimalistic design philosophy, I tend to like a lot of his games because of that but I agree that a lot of them would be overlooked if not for the name on the box.
