Thanks for making this video Joshua. A couple of things to note for everyone saying this looks like analog 2.0. 1. This vtx is only 200mW - just wait for a well tuned 1000mW VTX... 2. Fixed latency requires break up in video signal. Anyone that likes to fly analog video will be right at home with this system. DJI feels like playing a horribly optimized video game that never hits its frame rate target (variable latency). Anyone that flies DJI and claims this isn't a problem.... well... it just is. Anyway, this system replaces analog with very near no compromises in latency. It isn't designed to beat DJI - two different systems for different people / use cases
Totally disagree. I don't notice latency at all on DJI. I'm 35 and fly for fun not to push the limits. Sharkbyte breakup looks like crap and image quality is definitely far lower than DJI. I bet even on 1 watt your not going to get 10+km range like DJI too. Sharkbyte hasn't changed enough in 2 years to be worth it. If you want the best looking image and don't want fuzzy breakup the choice is obvious. Yeah it has its place but it's still nowhere near as good as DJI. DJI hardware is also bulletproof. Can't say the same for sharkbyte. You get what you pay for. Cheaper system=lower quality and performance. Yeah if you're a competitive racer in the top 100 I get it but for 99% of people who just fly for fun it's a no brainer. It still looks like analogue V2 to me. Just with really shit range. And all this shit about closed source DJI. It's been 2 years and both systems have exactly the same "open source" gear. Extra cams and I guess DJI also got the caddx vista. Sharkbyte still has no decent vtx and no signs of all this "open source, everyone is going to make sharkbyte stuff" garbage fatshark supporters keep talking about. Sharkbyte is no different to DJI in this aspect and I think if you look at the massive software improvements and hardware options DJI and other manufacturers has given us, support is far better on DJI as well. Fat Shark must make a Shark Byte module that fits in the module bay of their goggles. If they also make a vtx that can compare with DJI range they will have won against the giant.

Well I'm certainly glad I picked up a Shark byte receiver for only $50! I see they are now selling from $150 -> $250. All I need now is one of those fancy cameras!
Finally a compelling camera for Sharkbyte! I think this is enough to get me onboard, assuming I can get that or better down the line. Some higher power VTXs will surely follow.
05:09 "Don't worry about the construction that's happening in my yard, Uh, find out about that later" Bardwell drops teaser of a new Liftoff Expansion Level!
Definitely better. The image quality gap is insane, it looks like the Foxeer Digisight was a Nebula Nano. Right now i'm using DJI but if this keep getting better, i might switch to SharkByte. Will still need a way better VTX and availability.
After a tough decision, I was so looking forward to my SB module but it got lost in transit from Newbeedrone and they've been useless despite advertising protection. So now I have to decide all over again Fat Shark or DJI. No doubt there will be lots of competition in the SB realm and that'll drive tech improvement.
I have to watched the flights of this video on 2 different systems and internet connections. I can say that the resolution is right in the middle between analog and DJI. But I have heard analysis of fatshark much more suitable for long distances by the signal processing design.
Camera settings - are you using the defaults they came with or have you adjusted them? The sharpness setting is IMHO especially critical, you want to get the picture to look detailed & clean but not overly filtered. You get into the camera menu by holding the left stick center+right for a few seconds, and the right stick center.
I like giving it its best show, but still staying within the limits that HDZero has created. It calls out for the need for the whole HDZero/Sharkbyte ecosystem to take established form factors into account. Almost every user of that camera is going to get similar results to JB until people hack together purpose built camera mounts. To make it fully work, pilots need either a 3D printer or to find FPV/RC sellers who are selling after-market camera mounts.
@@Schlaegel I agree on most of that, But he knows better than to have a camera set in a frame with the sides in view like that, I'm sure he has a frame that would work, with all the stuff that is given to him, plus he has a 3D printer, if he had to do some mounts, just point that out in your review, and all the snarky remarks he was making. it was a BS review. IMO
The runcam looks like a really good 480p signal (perhaps on a 720p container) The foxeer is at most a 240p image. It lowers the highlights and raises the shadows like A LOT, while also applying tons of sharpening and increasing its saturation by 100%. It's headache inducing.
Closer. But I'm still not jealous. So far Caddx Nebula Pro is the only one nipping at the heals of the DJI camera, and that probably has something to do with them sneaking around DJI engineering for this partnership. I must say, your opening footage wasn't your best footage and gave me an initial impression of "nope". The brighter sunshine footage midway through your video made me take a second look. For me, the flicker and range is still a huge turnoff, but even the coloring still has that "analog company" look. What keeps me looking at SharkByte is their smaller vtx, and waiting for a nano camera that looks as good as the DJI cam. And yes, the DJI cam can be cut down to nano size. But now that we have flown DJI,... I'm not going backwards in visual quality. I may sacrifice some range if they'll enable me to build a TinyHawk II with the visual quality of DJI.
I think the neglect that the camera manufacturers showed HDzero is the reason people don't think it's a good system. It's a chicken before the egg problem. Give us good cameras, cause the system is maturing really quickly!
And this is the one part that is already a solved thing .... There are other good quality cameras and yet shark byte was stuck with low quality ones. But with this and the increased number of receivers in people's hands along with prospect of 1w vtx we might finally see bit more attention towards shark byte system from 3rd parties.
Was able to order a camera and I can't wait to drop it into my 3" Shark Byte Toothpick! DJI/Analog all have their use cases, but in an environment like backyard toothpick ripping, SB is tops.
I just use analog for that. Why get a whole other system just for your micros? DJI for big quads, analog for little quads. Otherwise you need 3, which is nutty (Tiny whoops).
@@geometerfpv2804 used to be the same, but when the receiver went on sale for $100, I decided to give to a try. Difference is major when flying through scraggle or whatever like JB said, but also because of the consistent latency over DJI.
I think AWESOME when I'm ready to upgrade to shark byte there should be lots of options. Seeing as how it now looks like a serious rival to dji. I would much rather give my money too red cat racing than dji. Maybe just have bond to Dogtown skaters. Vert skaters RULE ☠️
That and the fact that DJI still has an unfair advantage when it comes to DVR: Its variable, longer latency. As an extreme example, it's kinda like getting WiFi 4k video (at like 500 ms latency) and going "ah yeah, look how much better it is than SharkByte... Sure the picture will look much, much better. But it will be 100% unflyable for FPV. As a side note, you could put a system like that (eg video from the GoPro/pro camera) as a spectator video - for example if you're doing commercial shoots - since the latency won't be enough to bother the spectator. But for your pilot goggles you'd still need analog/sharkbyte.
Yep my caddx tarsier didn't quite work out like it thought it might for my Bot AFX and the design parameters I set out to achieve ....It's still a good system don't get me wrong and I love it but, fitment and space are a factor for what I'm trying to achieve. I've had my on the sharkbyte for building a HD mini 2s ripper whoop to be sure for some time now since the eachine US65Pro....Jumped on the Video RX for real during that special .. a no brainer. This camera looks good to me and post it could really POP. Dare to dream.
I'm a DJI guy so this video really didn't mean anything to me but I like your content so I watched for your analytics but I wanted to comment on the construction in the yard and you hinted at it finally but I've been curious as to what ya building. Also the ending LOL need some work on your patreon song HAHA!!
I can not wait to switch my analog racing rig to this. But I have to say I‘m not going to switch before a 4:3 camera is out with the same vertical fov as for an analog 1.8mm lens and a smaller race VTX that doesn‘t cost 99 bucks. This camera and a race VTX is very close to the price of a vista/air unit but not close regarding output power and quality. Will be hard to stay away from Sb for my racing rigs though! 😍
Wow, that makes me less concerned thjat I chose analogue over DJI. Upto now the feed has looked like they just threw bright colours over the sensor in a semi random order, THIS looks like a proper HD feed.
Yeah...so the DJI image looks even better in goggles, too? Come on, don't be a fanboy...it looks decent. This camera definitely looks better. I still would be willing to pay twice or even three times the price to get DJI.
the biggest visible difference is with the trees in the distance, the foxeer one looks so much worse there. It also seems to run some edge-algorithm, the mountains looked horrible.
I ordered mine, but with only 200x released at a time, I wouldn't say selling out in one minute indicates much. And I don't believe it's a full-fledged product until we get the 1W VTx. Even with the good camera, it's still borderline unflyable. Even at 500mW, a single large tree causes a lot of breakup.
That runcam looks pretty nice. I think there is still a lot of potential left in terms of good cams for HDZero - I wonder what it would look like on a really professional sensor like the ones we got in phones now...
I don't doubt the quality of the cameras, but when on the other end of it the results look like in this video, then thats optimizing the wrong piece of the system.
@@KOrnhOliO1 Yep, I'm ok with the current SB cameras, not the best but not bad either.. didn't even bother to try for the HDzero camera. I want better VTX damit!! Until then DJI is my goto followed by analog, then SB...
Was wondering this too. There’s a video I just ran across of a digisight with a different lens on it, and the colors look a lot like what you get if you pull the IR filter off of a dslr sensor…
Interesting. I guess digital is getting there. I use analogue exclusively, and frankly, am perfectly happy with it. I would have liked to see exactly the same flight path flown with a good quality analog setup. With how and where I fly, I have not so far considered resolution to be an issue. What does it all weigh? I use a (good quality) analogue setup where the camera and VTX together (excluding antenna) weigh just under 4g for 200mW max - only ever use 25mW actually as that is the legal limit here. Since everything I fly is a long way under 250g, weight matters. An extra 10g would be typically 5% or more of the AUW, and that is noticeable. Keeping an eye on this, but not yet convinced.
I have both….with SB there’s no WOW like dji when putting on the goggles. However I fly SB more cause the dji goggles don’t fit my narrow noggen. And their osd sucks
Thanks again JB. Would love to see someday a quick video on how you tweak the Canvas mod OSD to reposition the elements. I suppose there are some CLI tweaks at work you have to get the OSD elements way at the bottom. I'm waiting for my cams.. I got lucky this week ordering.
@@JoshuaBardwell thanks. My problem is if I drag osd elements to the bottom of the betaflight osd configuration window..when I look in the actual goggles the placement of those elements are not at the bottom. It's as if the osd setup screen is not a true representation of the goggles screen. If that makes sense. I understand there is a set_InsertElementName_pos=#### setting however I can't find documentation on the #### position values.
Change the camera from NTSC to PAL in the OSD tab. That will give you three extra lines of OSD at the bottom of the screen. I'm not sure how this interacts with SharkByte but I betcha that's the issue.
@@JoshuaBardwell yes that is indeed the problem, I ran into this when converting one of my analog quads. Also if you already set up canvas msp mode, the OSD tab in the configurator will not show the video mode switch anymore, but it is still set at whatever it was before. So you will have to enter CLI and issue the command "set vcd_video_system = PAL"
i am glad they lowered the price to 99$ they should keep it there, i am just not impressed compared to dji, but i am happy they keep pushing R&D - i do see an obvious difference to hdzero and foxeer. i am wondering how the comparison to an analog t-rex with oleds would be
It looks pretty good, but I just hate that SharkByte shows "bad pixels / bad data" (whatever you wanna call it) as colorful squares. It would be so much nicer on the eyes, if they for instance just rendered every bad square black.
I love to but I just can't keep up with the tech everyday something new. I guess I just have to pick a day pull a trigger and that's the tech I'm using
I have had the hdzero order page open for like a week and refreshing it whenever I see it.....nada....why do they release them when I am at work?! my digisight 2 turned black and white on me and wont go back to color.....I like the original runcam hd way better than the digisight anyways.....was looking forward to the hdzero runcam but I suppose I missed out this round.
If my mother heard me rapping, she would say don't quit your day job.......I'll leave that alone now 🤣. Wow, I like it, I can't seem to get one yet, but I'm waiting on better goggles now anyway, the dominators have served well, but it's time to upgrade. And I thought I was getting in cheap when I bought the bundle for 200 bucks, lol. After 4 years you would think I would know better by now.

@7:28 when UA-cam drops from 1080p to 144p lol
Great video like usual, I will definitely try to get one of those HDZERO
5:20 - might those standoffs, or what ever is blocking the sides of the camera, throw off the measuring algorithm a little?
The ending clip keeps getting better 😂
Definitely better. The image quality gap is insane, it looks like the Foxeer Digisight was a Nebula Nano. Right now i'm using DJI but if this keep getting better, i might switch to SharkByte. Will still need a way better VTX and availability.
That shure is a nice place u have and a nice place to fly.
A nice intro mate. Love it!
I have to watched the flights of this video on 2 different systems and internet connections. I can say that the resolution is right in the middle between analog and DJI. But I have heard analysis of fatshark much more suitable for long distances by the signal processing design.
Runcam vs Foxeer, like the good ol days before Caddx was the cool kid with their DJI partnership. =)
Could you drop the HDZero clip where we could download it and
view locally, without the youtube compression? Thx!
I can't wait to get it. I'm convinced
good review as usual. BUY A Bucket!!!! you are gonna need it to carry that "musical" tune
I really enjoyed watching this video. The music and commentary was great.
Wow that looks so fucking good. I can’t wait for my HDZero to come in!!!
That runcam looks amazing! Please someone, make a VTX
Wow great edit and perfect music!
the last bit is hilarious🤣🙌
Love the shirt Joshua.
Camera settings - are you using the defaults they came with or have you adjusted them?
The sharpness setting is IMHO especially critical, you want to get the picture to look detailed & clean but not overly filtered.
You get into the camera menu by holding the left stick center+right for a few seconds, and the right stick center.
I’ll remember this when I get mine, thanks for the pro tip!
I'm sorry but if you are serious about testing this camera, you would make it fit in that frame right.
I think he wanted to be one of the first with test results
@@geometerfpv2804 Maybe, but it needs to be moved IMO
IMO
The runcam looks like a really good 480p signal (perhaps on a 720p container)
The foxeer is at most a 240p image. It lowers the highlights and raises the shadows like A LOT, while also applying tons of sharpening and increasing its saturation by 100%. It's headache inducing.
Someone's getting very arty with their videos :)
Nice to see you having creative fun.
I also use a sharkbyte 3" babytooth as my daily driver. its awesome.
So one of the dog town skaters involved in redcat ?
The Runcam is a better camera, but that still took a little bit of balls to fly through that scraggle. HDZero is going in the right direction.
lol you should see my yard I fly with regular analog ;)
Damn that's a great looking camera and I got 2 coming my way soon baby!
You will be happy soon 😉
@@RyanQuellet Oh yeah, that sounds promising. I can tell you I got a lot of rigs and all other racing pilots I know as well. 😉
Wow, that makes me less concerned thjat I chose analogue over DJI. Upto now the feed has looked like they just threw bright colours over the sensor in a semi random order, THIS looks like a proper HD feed.
UA-cam and Dvr compression just doesn’t do justice on what you see inside the goggles.
yeah but you can apples to apples it with dji using the same video and it looks far superior. so that point isnt really useful.
Yeah...so the DJI image looks even better in goggles, too? Come on, don't be a fanboy...it looks decent. This camera definitely looks better. I still would be willing to pay twice or even three times the price to get DJI.
@@geometerfpv2804 DJI looks better but the variable latency sucks for racing :-(
I upload in 4k H.265 at 55 Mbps for this specific video, to try to minimize the UA-cam effect. Nothing more you can really do.
the biggest visible difference is with the trees in the distance, the foxeer one looks so much worse there. It also seems to run some edge-algorithm, the mountains looked horrible.
Lol the intro! This is gonna be interesting video.
Nice review JB. Thank u!
Please RunCam, make DJI Cam !!!!! Good review !!!
I don't doubt the quality of the cameras, but when on the other end of it the results look like in this video, then thats optimizing the wrong piece of the system.
Exactly! You've got the camera looking good... Now work on SharkByte.... Errrrr...Analog2. IT STILL SUCKS! 🧐😩
@@KOrnhOliO1 Yep, I'm ok with the current SB cameras, not the best but not bad either.. didn't even bother to try for the HDzero camera. I want better VTX damit!! Until then DJI is my goto followed by analog, then SB...
Does the digisight have an IR block lens? I wonder if the haze is from an IR sensitive lens
Was wondering this too. There’s a video I just ran across of a digisight with a different lens on it, and the colors look a lot like what you get if you pull the IR filter off of a dslr sensor…
Runcam HDZero seems to be the best camera for Shark Byte
I ordered the foxeer digisight v3 with the starlight lens. Might be good to look into
I have a review coming out this week
@@JoshuaBardwell sweet, can hardly wait to watch it
Glad I got my 2🙌
I have both….with SB there’s no WOW like dji when putting on the goggles. However I fly SB more cause the dji goggles don’t fit my narrow noggen. And their osd sucks
HDZero Runcam looked so much better!
Turn wifi off? No, put a repeater every 20m LOL
Thanks again JB. Would love to see someday a quick video on how you tweak the Canvas mod OSD to reposition the elements. I suppose there are some CLI tweaks at work you have to get the OSD elements way at the bottom. I'm waiting for my cams.. I got lucky this week ordering.
No special tweaks. Just put them at the bottom of the screen in the Betaflight OSD tab.
I ordered this camera too. But isn't it as advertised, just a shark byte version of Runcam Mipi for dji?
i am glad they lowered the price to 99$ they should keep it there, i am just not impressed compared to dji, but i am happy they keep pushing R&D - i do see an obvious difference to hdzero and foxeer. i am wondering how the comparison to an analog t-rex with oleds would be
No comparison. T rex is outclassed significantly.
Beautiful!
JB, how about compare this HDZero with Apollo?! :P
Let's do it!
Managed to bag one on day two from UK :) Can only realistically get the TX5S.1 though, 5R.1 is at a rip off price and the 5M "maybe" discontinued? :(
It looks pretty good, but I just hate that SharkByte shows "bad pixels / bad data" (whatever you wanna call it) as colorful squares. It would be so much nicer on the eyes, if they for instance just rendered every bad square black.
I agree, I think they should at least average the surrounding pixels' colors to make it less jarring to the eyes.
It looks that bad 30 feet from the flyer.....
im buying it!
Bardwell could totally do asmr videos.
I love to but I just can't keep up with the tech everyday something new. I guess I just have to pick a day pull a trigger and that's the tech I'm using
I have had the hdzero order page open for like a week and refreshing it whenever I see it.....nada....why do they release them when I am at work?! my digisight 2 turned black and white on me and wont go back to color.....I like the original runcam hd way better than the digisight anyways.....was looking forward to the hdzero runcam but I suppose I missed out this round.
got me 2 hdzero cams 🤘
I want this camera, any suggest where i can buy? Im from Indonesia. Thank You Joshua
I want sharkbyte now
We need TBS or Rush vtx 🥺
Confirmation Joshua Bardwell is part bird 🦅
Oh... Wow! 😮
That's fantastic, Joshua! It's almost in the level of the DJI system!
We just need better video transmitters!
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
