The numbers don’t lie, but the parameters for those numbers matter. I wonder if you would see similar increase in linens if you had measured from a distance-say, from the garage wall? Light fades as it spreads over distance, right?
Edited to add: I just now heard your final assessment, that you noticed a marked difference in the real world on a night drive. That is great!

Yea, I realized when I went to edit it there wasn't a real world use segment (I thought I filmed it, but possible it got lost)

True you get an improvement in light output with a $100 D4S, but I'll bet ya half a peach they won't last as long as what they replaced. I'm SOOOOO glad Wanderlust has the LED headlamps.

The factory bulbs are $65. If replacing at the time they burn out the price isn't super outlandish.
Factory HID has pros and cons. The biggest con being cost.
I'm not sure longevity though. The marketing mentions nothing of hotter burn or shorter life.
I know that doesn't mean anything but the Sylvania Silver Star specifically mentions shorter life as a trade off for their version.
Will report back if they ever burn out. But with the factory bulb lasting 8 years I'm not sure if I will ever get the chance.

An improvement, but $100 improvement? I suppose you would need to drive at night to really find out.
Also some plastic polish on those headlight covers would probably do wonders. I like 3M plastic polish.

I would say yes. Especially with the original bulbs at 110k miles I figured it was likely to go out soon. Not sure the expected hour life.

The light output (lumens) of HID globes/bulbs degenerates with age so your comparison figures may not be meaningful if you are comparing an old globe/bulb with the new globe/bulb. It would be interesting to compare the $100 globe/bulb with a new cheaper globe/bulb when they are both new.
Thanks for the video as always

I did not realize that age was a factor for light output. Thanks!
