I finally got diagnosed with sleep apnea 3 years ago. I could never get restful sleep. I woke up still tired and had black circles under my eyes. People dont understand just how much of a impact sleep apnea has on the body. Everything in the body is impacted in a negative way by sleep apnea.
How you got rid of it. It ruined my 1 year
I went a long time without sleep apnea machine after i was diagnosed with it. I couldn't use a CPAP or BiPAP i needed a Auto Servo ventilator. I went so long without it that i have all kinds of mental and physical problems. A week before i got the device I'd be coming home from work on 3 occasions thinking i was about to have a heart attack or stroke. I've had the device for almost 3 weeks and i still ache all over from lack of breathing in my sleep.

Came here for snoring solutions, stayed for Shaq's hilarious jokes about them 😂😂
I've never slept well in probably 13 years. That's about 1/3 of my lifetime.
And no time in hundreds of doctor visits a single one mentioned sleep apnea.
And suddenly someone just mentioned sleep apnea and everything started making sense.
Bad sleep, several toilet visits, headaches in the mornings, thirst, bad mood in the morning, and recently blackouts and memory lapses.
Still waiting for my sleep clinic appointment.
Thanks to all for working to make awareness and treatment. And thanks Shaquille.
How did your journey turn out to be after the sleep clinic appointment?
How are things now?
Shaq, You're the best brother! Thanks for the interview.
Thanks shaq for sharing! Iv got sleep Apnea and heading over the other side of 40. I need the support to wear my mask every day to live a better, healthier life.. Shaq you are a nice guy! Keep up the good work informing people about the seriousness of sleep Apnea.
Yes exactly so many people walking around with this undiagnosed cause the average joe doesn’t realize that snoring can be a dangerous symptom. It’s important here to have an ambassador with his star power to make people aware of this
I've never met Shaq in person, but from all the videos I've seen of him, he's a nice guy. A very nice guy.
My only regret about getting tested for sleep APNEA, is that I didn’t do it sooner; still tho, I’m glad I listened to my doctor finally, and got tested; the test is so simple; if you do have it, once you start treatment, you’ll notice the difference within a couple of days, ( It really is like night and day, you’ll feel so much better)! Shack said the machine makes a lot of noise but my experience is that it really doesn’t make that much noise; I wonder which machine he’s talking about, because there’s several different ones…? Look at it this way, if u get tested and h don’t have it, great, good for you; on the other hand, if you do have it, and you start treatment, good for you!
This was so inspiring. I got a cpap 2 weeks ago. Hate it but I know I have to learn more about it. I hate the noise. Hate waking up a lot because of leaks. Going in for another appt to learn more. Thanks so much.
This is a real big problem. Thanks guys I'm on the bi level ASV I stop breathing 172 times a hour and I wake up 256 a night. I would piss 10 to 12 times a night. I had anxiety attacks bad during the day I was angry all the time. I went to 4 better sleep in Dallas Tx and did the sleep study it was bad ..... Now with the machine I dream and feel great...
Which machine?
Holy shit...you're describing my symptoms. I'm working with a lung specislist and I'm getting a sleep study. We'll see what if I got it too....
@@tubesurfer1977 a cpap or bipap devise. You put a mask on which generates enough pressure to keep the oxygen way to the lungs open. The normal obstructive sleep apnea is just a blockade lungs and Heart normally have normal function. It’s not a lung issue. When awake you have normal oxygen levels but when asleep they shut down. The devise generates pressure to ensure that they are open and you should quit have a normal every day life with it. I also had hundreds of those per hour with the devise i just got 2-3 per hour which is quit normal also the oxygen level is pretty much normal. Central apnea or other sleep breathing disorders are probably harder to deal with. Mask is just annoying at first
OMG!!!! 172?!? How old were you when you finally got diagnosed???
Damn, how are you alive? Because I had 70 episodes an hour and it nearly killed me! Also in 3 years i never got REM sleep.
SHAQ is a genuine , intelligent , terrific , person . Fantastic gentleman !
I'm Pisces like you my Brother .
Thanks for keeping it real .
I've got sleep apnea , it's truly amazing what you said.
I sleep more sound , & deep ;
& really wake up very rested !

Shaq your just so kind caring and selfless. I to have sleep apnea. And I know how bad it can make the body feel. I'm praying for you to treat yourself well especially while you sleep it's so important
Shaq is such an cool guy to admit that he is imperfect!
God Bless the three of you for the work you are doing in this space.
I've been diagnosed with sleep apnea. I tried the CPAP machine and couldn't tolerate it. I now have an appointment to have a oral appliance(mouth piece) fitted. Hoping this will be the miracle I've been hoping for.
how is it working for u?
I need an update, I use a cpap and love it. However, I am traveling a lot for work now and I do not like traveling with it.
Absolutely loved the candid chat and insights from Shaq and Dr. Greenberg about such an important health issue! 😁👏 Sleep apnea awareness is crucial, and teaming up for this cause is both inspiring and potentially life-changing for many. It's awesome to see big personalities putting their weight behind health education and contributing to the community in such impactful ways.🌟🏀
The discussion about how improving sleep quality can affect overall wellness resonates with the significance of the endocannabinoid system, which is involved in regulating various body functions including sleep cycles. Good sleep hygiene can enhance the performance of this system and, consequently, the body's homeostasis. 👍💤
Keep up the fantastic work, Shaq and team! Your efforts in sleep apnea awareness might just make as much of an impact as a Shaq slam dunk in a packed arena! 🏆🎉
THANKS DIESEL! Appreciate you!
Shaq thank you for sharing
big love for this man
I use Z Quiet and absolutely love it. Great product that works real well. It does take time to get used to but, after awhile you will not even know it's in your mouth. Give it a try and say good bye to sleep apnea.
I'm going in for surgery next week .. moving my hyoid.. removing my tonsils and trimming back my epaglotis ..... hope it works
Did it work for you? I hope so! I just found out I have severe sleep apnea and surgery looks to be the best way to tackle it on a more permanent basis.
Did it help ya? Hope so!
Did it help you?
Absolutely worked.. changed my life. It only been a couple months. But I sleep so so much more soundly and no snoring.... and I'm well rested... I will admit . It's harder to fall asleep because I'm not exhausted like I use to be.. I had severe sleep apnea .. I elected to not do any nose work..
I believe My Dr calls this the high lift procedure ...it's I volved and is a very painful recover . But for me it was worth it... 😃
@@krispeterson1021 Thanks for the update! I'm trying weight loss before I decide to do anything else. I hate surgery and pain LOL BUT that's great you have found a cure for your sleep apena! And here others say there is NO cure for it. You proved there actually IS!
The British voice made me laugh out loud 😂
What device does dr Greenberg use ?
He makes a oral appliance(mouth guard)
It’s annoying illness or circumstance but you will learn to live with it.
We are in the same boat here. I have it myself a very highly developed apnea. Woke up with headaches sometimes hyperventilating when I woke up. My oxygen level dropped to 60% sometimes people get breathing support in hospitals around 80%. I had hundreds of apnea’s but normally when it’s obstructive a cpap or bipap Devise should solve a lot of this stuff. Lungs and heart have normal function the oxygen way is just blocked the mask will generate enough pressure to keep them open. With the devise I just have 2-3 per hour oxygen level drops at maximum to 93% which is acceptable.
Mask will probably be annoying at first but with time you will get the hack.
Be strong brother you are not alone with this.
There so many people having this but never go see the doctor to get a diagnosis. You me and all of those people who did the examination we are fortunate to live a quite normal life with this.
I needed this, supergreatful for this.
Im on my way to do my sleep study, I haven't slept in 2 days. I've got a mild chest infection, and I alot of rest to cure it!!
When Reggie White died, I got a cpap machine. Been using it since 2017. It takes time to get the right mask, and you may need otc meds for nasal congestion
Man I know the feeling I snore like a Bear 🐻 and I took a sleep study and I started sleeping with the machine dream machine 1. Then I stopped and felt so tired 🥱 I started back and I feel more better sleep with the machine if you have it take it from me and Shaq.
I got diagnosed a few years ago after my sister continuously would wake me up and told me I was gasping for air and struggling to breathe and a trip to the ER. One night I didn’t use my machine and my father said I never heard you in my life but you sounded like a BEAR!! And your door was closed and it was LOUD!!😂😂😂
How much is this device please?
I don’t have exact numbers cuz I just got the machine yesterday and haven’t received the first bill yet but over the next 10 months I will pay about $435 and I will own it. my insurance covered 70% already so I’m guessing full price is like $1400
What did he say he wears?
"no I'm just pointing at my knees" the 3rd knee, shaq?
Shaq is the best😂😂😂
I'm only 28, 6 feet tall 280 lbs. With a big frame. My future wife diagnosed me with it. Got the home sleep study done. Severe obstructice apenea. My oxygen got to 73% CPAP changed my dad's life after he got used to it and I'll do the same. 🤙
I hear ya, man. I’m 35 now, but I’ve snored my entire life; it runs in my family. I always suspected it was OSA due to being groggy, heaving headaches upon waking up. I’m 6’1”, 215lbs, 18.5-19” neck, which isn’t giant but bigger than avg. When I was thinner, doctors kinda wrote off my concerns bc my BMI was much lower.
Multiple girlfriends over the years always told me I stopped breathing at night. My oxygen dipped down around where yours was. Had sinus surgery and using the CPAP machine now.
Since seeing results on CPAP I’m just trying to inform my young-ish friends (under 40) I know that are big snorers. There’s a stigma about masks. But using CPAP and finally getting restful sleep/having energy is way better than the alternative - having a heart attack, high BP, etc.
Either way, as someone closer to your age, I just felt like commenting in solidarity.
he cares, that’s what you need
I stop breathing 67 times per 30 minutes. I'm suffering from sleep for many years, especially the last 5 years.
What brand of mouth guard does he use?
So true would love to meet you
I lucked out after finding the cpap device unacceptable I was fitted with the oral appliance. Seven yrs now. I went from 18 to 6 events.
No issues with your teeth or jaw pain?
But what exact type of dental appliance( mandibular device ) is Shaq using, or promoting? I need to know so i can invest in this. As i too, suffer from sleep apnea. Mild sleep apnea to be exact.
He said Zyppah... Unfortunately, an oral appliance is not recommended for severe sleep apnea unless they can't tolerate PAP. His oral device is most likely not fully treating his OSA, but it's enough for him to feel better, which is better than nothing... Disclaimer** I'm am just speculating and don't know certainly 🤷🏽♀️. Hopefully this helps.
@@heidymerius2845 i think it is cpap and bpap they are talking about . Am i right. My brother has snoring problem and sleep apnea cos he at times didnt know that he was already sleeping while driving. I was made aware of the device more through Shaq and his doctors. Thanks
@@emiliesalcedo1523 I was replying to Redman1983's question on which dental device Shaq was promoting. On the video you will see around 4:13 that Shaq says Zyppah. Yes, he does have a pap machine, but he explains that he doesn't use it every night. Also to note is that this is doc talk dental, oftentimes dentists will promote oral appliance or mandibular advancement devices to treat sleep apnea. Also to know, is that Dr Greenberg is the developer of the Zyppah. If you look up the product, you will see him on the website.
4:14 --> 5:28
What’s the name of the device he uses?
Zyppah
Shaq,
How do you know
The doctor knows it all
If you don’t know it all?
72 times! I was just tested I’m 110 per hr lol
Does our weight have anything to do with it?
It can but not always… it will cause weight gain though if not treated among other health issues. My research shows that Africans and Hispanics are thought to be more prone to have Sleep Apnea…
Yes I can. Ask your doctor but I've been told that.
Nah I’m 21, slim build with sleep apnea
