      eldrazi are only spooky in extremely casual tables. They simply are too slow and durdley to win when they should. Yes you probably delete one player from the game but then get progressively annihilated yourself and that's ASSUMING you even get to cast those splashy spells without being counter spelled or interacted with.
      they're super cool, very flavorful and even salt inducing. But powerful and terrifying? nah. no way.
      Zuludholk, ulalek and Azlask definitely make them more playable but they still don't stop you from being interacted with to death.

      Agreed. The new Ulamog and Emrakul are harder to deal with (expecailly Emrakul). But at that mana cost, it should be a game ending card if you dont have an answer for it. That goes for any deck

    The way I see the Eldrazi is that they were meant to be like Raid Bosses, where everyone plays for themselves during the early game before being forced to team up to defeat the big threat once it arrives. In Lore it took several Planeswalker to beat a single Titan, so they tried to simulate that.

      That's how my Eldrazi commander deck is, and i love it. My goal is never to win the game. Its to become a big scary boss that the table teams up to defeat. After they have succeeded in killing me they all look at each other triumphant, and I live for that. Some have annihilated their lands just so they can full swing at me, giving the rest of the table a fighting chance, valiantly sacrificing so others may live. It brings them together, the game for them is also no longer about winning it's about killing me at all costs. I also play it relatively nicely where I try to spread out the annihilator and bad stuff evenly, even if it would be more advantageous to just fully remove a player. It's more fun if everyone can still play. I only kill a player if I think if can kill everyone quickly after.

    Casual edh players don't often have enough interaction to deal with a bunch of eldrazi. Not to mention the issue of the eldrazi decks being a bunch of ramp ramp ramp that requires a vandalblast or similar. If you have that the overextended Eldrazi deck does nothing if you don't you have a sliver situation where you drown in the advantage the deck gives from the fact that 80-90% of eldrazi are big payoffs

  • @ptp1999
    @ptp1999 Місяць тому +5

    I've never really hated Eldrazi - if someone turns up to play with a spaghetti monster as a Commander, you know what's going to happen. Play faster combo decks or keep up interaction. As per always, it's all about the rule zero conversation and ensuring you know what you're up against. People get salty with Eldrazi when they magically appear from a deck that hasn't mentioned it from the start.

  • @TheMEGAJCB

    I always love how the "they have powerful cast triggers" argument always comes up as a way of arguing for the titans being stronger and harder to interact with, which is at least partly true. It is harder to interact with those effects and kinda makes it so that even if they get countered, the eldrazi player gets some payoff after the massive mana investment. But trust me, it is more of a limiter than an advantage. You wouldn't want the blink or sacrifice-reanimator players to have access to those effects as ETBs....

    the reason Aeon's torn was banned was because it was all generic mana and early commander was much less powerful so anyone that owned one ran it because even without ramp games would go long enough to afford the steep cost.
    I'm a firm believer that it could be unbanned in today's meta and make little to no real impact on the balance of things.

    As a Timmy and a person who plays Ulalek, I enjoy the fact that they're big and splashy. The deck is also essentially an upgraded precon. I find them to be fun but the deck also plays the largest ones on turn 5-6, which ya know, is hardly optimal. I think they're fun but also gauging the mood of your playgroup is important! Just like you wouldn't want to eat spaghetti all the time sometimes the people you play with just aren't in the mood to deal with that kind of deck. Communication with the people you regularly play with is important in making sure we're all getting the experience we want out of the games we play.

    Eldrazi are only strong in casual commander, as most people are hesitant to swing into a player to keep their life low without provocation. If an eldrazi player sits down, they know their game plan is to survive until the haymakers are deployed.
    Basically, it's this: if you get run over by eldrazi, you lost the game for yourself.

    To this day people will defend that the original Emrakul should remain banned. Being completely honest, it is not hard for these decks to get to 15 mana if not infinite mana. Emrakul is a game ended in almost every format it is legal in. I don't think that Emrakul is so broken he cannot be unbanned, but It is still immune to most removal and board wipes paired with an extra turn on cast that can now be copied into the dirt. To say it isn't a very powerful card isn't true, but if the RC was consistently banning cards, like half of the current format wouldn't exist and some of these new commander cards would get pre-banned.

  • @jcstaff1007
    @jcstaff1007 Місяць тому +11

    The problem with Eldrazi is that they’re bigger green creatures with worse ramp. And they do similar things/have similar play styles. They both ramp into their big splashy spells way before they’re meant to be played, leading to oppressive gameplay. The creatures are big and with annihilator they cause salt whenever they do swing in bc it usually means you’re sacrificing your lands or best stuff at some point. They have custom board wipes, (ugin’s binding, all is dust, Ugin the Uneffable, etc) that are essentially all one-sided, not to mention exile. There’s literally only 2 colors that can escape exile effects that don’t target: white and blue. So every other color is super vulnerable to their wipes/annihilator triggers. Then bc of all the ramp, they essentially can rebuild very easily. And now with access to other colors, land destruction is going to be the only thing they’re particularly vulnerable against. So they’re a pain to deal with early bc their creatures are beefy, they ramp fast and hard, they bounce back easily, their spells and triggers are hard to deal with, and they have tons of support. It’s like Slivers in the sense they also snowball out of control, especially with the new commanders post Zhuladok. 2:00

      This is exactly what I was thinking myself (Wrote it on another post below): Eldrazi are just an easier-to-pilot version of Green tactics since you don't get the ramp but you get most of the stuff you need to win on a single card you can usually name as your commander: I ramp, I keep trying to cast my commander and I eventually win when people run out of answers.

    I feel like the only people who don't like Eldrazi don't actually understand how to play the game effectively, especially the mono colorless ones. If you're just using them as a top end to a simic ramp deck or something then I guess they could be annoying? But they're still less powerful than the usualy top end of green or blue imo, lol. Extra turn spells or just the crazy green payoffs like genesis wave are a lot scarier since they're more difficult to deal with when it comes to removal, or even board wipes.

    Here´s my issue: Is not that Eldrazi decks are too powerful, as other people mention A LOT of mtg decks and wincons are as powerful if not more powerful. The issue is that it's far too easy to pilot when you compare it to other strategies: I think of Eldrazi decks as an easier version of Mono-Green and/or Gruul: You ramp, you cast big creatures, you turn them sideways and you win. Except with Mono-Green/Gruul you actually have to pilot the deck a lot more to overcome some of the obstacles your opponents might put up as roadblocks to slow you down or even stop you outright.
    With stuff like Anihilator, Extra Turns, Massive mill, etc. It's just very simple to ramp a lot and keep trying to successfully cast and attack with a Big Eldrazi that will pretty much just brute force your way into winning: You don't have to pick your battles, overcome numbers, overcome interaction and removal through different tactics or different means, your big Eldrazi already has a lot of those things built into so you can just focus on very few tactics without really having to do much about it.
    The silver lining is that I actually think that if they had WUBRG as a requirement (And not just an option) then it would require at least some more thinking in regards to your mana base, your ramp options, your interaction, etc. The MH3 WUBRG Eldrazi are not enough but a step in the right direction so I do hope there can be seen as slightly more 'fair' for players so it's at least not an automatic case of 'You put ramp rocks and keep trying to cast your commander and eventually just win when you succeed' like it is for a lot of the past and some of the new Eldrazi big cards.

    same goes for slivers, enchatress, landfall, artifacts, aristocrats and a lot more decks that in one or another way bend the rule 0 in to a grey area.
