For sure. The balance between “precision & chaos” is a huge topic, and the preference of position on that balance is often a big genre defining characteristic and really defines a lot of artists within their genre too. Been thinking about this lately 🤔…
The timing of this is incredible. Literally hours before you posted it, I lived it. I hate the robotic feel of my beats, I suck at playing with the click track, should probably practice, click is too quiet, record something terrible, tweak the timing of the outliers (replace the really bad ones), LFO the gain on the hi-hat. The HUGE difference is I stayed frustrated, tweaked all the way to perfect quantization, repeat. Your advice to just embrace the imperfection was a truly Zen revelation. Thank you. Liked, subscribed, rung the bell
Haha, I feel you! This is my life. I want to be a good drummer but I just don’t have the time. So many other musical toys to play with and musical skills to learn.
My dude, midi is a perfectly fine protocol. The only time I've ever had issues like what you're talking about is with usb midi (which sucks ass even today) and devices with poorly implemented or designed midi implementation. It seems like perhaps Elektron just doesn't have good clock syncing or midi implementation in general though...it's not a problem with midi it's a problem with your machines and their implementation...there's really no reason for dogging on midi
Fair point, but I’ve seen MIDI clock fluctuations on Roland devices, Moog devices and Arturia synths as well. So I don’t think the problem is specific to Elektron. I could be wrong.
@@damigamusic you're right, I have too, I originally wanted to write that most newer devices just have poor midi in general...but I thought that was too broad a generalization...I think it's kinda sad that midi implementation is so lacking in newer devices, cause it just continues to reinforce the notion that midi is an outdated system that can't do impressive stuff...
Totally agree. I would love to rely on it for a live performance but it just doesn’t feel solid. I’m sure it rocks with a dedicated MIDI clock controller, though.
@@damigamusic I'm not entirely sure about how that works, I've never needed one, but if it works the way its name would imply then yeah it'd probably be worth looking into getting for your setup, but do keep in mind that's just one more piece of gear to troubleshoot and worry about when your main sequencer should just be able to put out a steady clock to begin with
Some of the best Elektron videos online. Keep it up. You subs will explode eventually.
Thanks, Jeremy. I appreciate you!
Nice tutorial. I think "humanizing" drums in electronic music is very important and often overlooked!

"It's gonna suck". Exactly what I say to myself prior to entering a pattern 😂
Great tutorial and tips! Thanks.
very well explained thanks. If you plan to record some more tutorial for digitakt I'd be happy
Will do. Any specific topics you are looking to see on the Digitakt?

I’m sure you meant the rytm but you don’t have pressure sensitive pads on the Digitakt.
