Another thing about the fact that they can't actively shoot them : because older quills have a weak bond with the skin , when the animal does a sudden fast movement (such as turning) the old quills can sometimes detach themselves and thus the porcupine "shoots" them , that is why it was belived that they could shoot them as will , they can of course "shoot" them, but is accidentaly more than anything
So if they had adapted some sort of special muscles in the pores of these quills, they could potentially and actually become a walking Gun?

Here I was thinking that porcupines have big irons on their back and can shoot at moments notice.
Tarantulas can do something similar, they're able to flick their barbs at people if they're irritated
@@whosapickle Those are called urticating hairs, and in some species they will actually be connected to venom glands, but the venom is too weak to do much to humans. It’s meant for warding off small mammals that might prey on the tarantulas.

Fun story from when I worked in EMS. I walked into a patient's home and they had a porcupine in their living room. Out of the corner of my eye I thought it was a boar.. so I looked wondering wtf, and nope it was a freaking huge porcupine. Lol I had them put it out. I definitely didn't need to freak it out or accidentally run into it while moving the stretcher. Lol 😂 it was an African porcupine in rural Mississippi just chilling next to some pit bulls in someones living room.

Was out waking my dog in the woods, he was hyper but Hadn’t noticed the porcupine in our path not far away, I just calmly called him back, he was a cute bastard and any panic in my voice would have got him all suspicious 😂😂
A few years back, my biyfriends dogs decided to chase a porcupine on a trail he let them run free, and well, that was a BIG mistake because the porcupine took revenge and I had to pay over $1,300.00 at the vets to get them removed. He didn't have the money at the time either, stupid move on his part, and he never paid me back. They are his dogs, not mine. 🤦♀️🤦♀️
