People say we had an easy run to semis but none of us English thought we'd get out of the group stage going by the past few embarrassing tournaments, personally this was on my best years 2018 we had the hot summer the world cup life was good
England played really well at the 2018 Fifa World Cup, we navigated the tournament well, A moment or moments in a game define the Result of games, taking the easier route in the tournament was probably what England had to do to finish the best we can, Regardless I’m proud of England 🏴

Compared to England, Croatia had an unbelievable midfield and that’s where the game was won.
I remember Croatia were totally written off by the ESPN panel just before the semi, England were already in the final and that was that.
The same panel weren't so cocky after the game.
@ England could have been 3-0 up at HT, so their optimism could have been well justified in an alternate timeline. It was just the superior experience and quality that went with it that wrestled control back for the Croats.

England deserved to win this ! They were the best team by a country mile.
They lost 3 games and the only sides they beat were Panama, Tunisia and Sweden
France and Belgium were the best two teams. Their squad was several years ahead in terms of development. I think it was starting in 2012-2014 whereas England's players mostly had no tournament experience and had only been in the squad since 2016.

People forget that England were a fairly weak team back in that tournament, it was essentially the same England team that Roy Hodgson managed but with a different goalie and without Wayne Rooney. When we were 1-0 up in the Croatia game I was screaming for Vardy or Rashford to come on in place of Kane or Sterling. We desperately needed fresh legs, and to give Croatia something to worry about. It would have given us an easy outlet and we could have scored on the break. Vardy was possibly the best counterattacking striker in the world at the time. Southgate was too passive.
