    Dredge the American river up near Placerville, CA. by the Alpha & Omega mine tailings piles. Right about the end of the inside bend of the river there. I regularly pulled a quarter ounce average per day from there. Black sand is little pay-off compared to having a river, a dredge and a sluice doing your work for you. Always got enough gold to get a hotel room, a steak dinner, a tank of gas, beer, ice, bullets, some entertainment time sitting at a slot machine up in Tahoe. Cool, Truckee...plenty of interesting towns through there. Gold fever is real, gold becomes your every thought. You don't expect to get rich at all. The wealth is in the being out in most beautiful nature, the fun of the hobby, the dreams, the excitement of finding a nugget. It pays *just* enough to keep your hopes up! ha ha! Even made up for time away from work.
    Bears and criminals are the only problems. I carried a lever action .44 Magnum rifle and a Dan Wesson .357 for the criminals and a can of spray for the curious bears that I love too dearly to shoot at. "Go on, big furry fella - I aint got no lunch for ya!" Ha ha! I smile even now, thinking about how them bears scurry off if you just wave your arms and shout at them! Bless their hearts.The equipment was paid for within 9 months, It probably paid for my new Chevy Blazer, too. I met many good, rough honest people. I would hand a local a hand-held CB radio, set the channel and have my emergency line...buy him or her a dinner and drink when I got back. I did hear-tell of a feller getting his hip waders filled up with that ice-cold river water, going numb, couldn't fight any more, drowned in two and a half feet of water. There was a very fancy four star restaurant right off of I-50 that I would coffee-up at. Waiter hand-roasted, hand ground and percolated a pot (fine silver) just for you, stood beside you the whole time there, towel draped over arm. Silk doily on the saucer. Bone porcelain china, fine silver tableware. I'd hand him my dirty rusty beat-up old Union Carbide thermos that grampa used fishin' salmon in Alaska back in the 40's. The Maitre D' asked how one holds their little pinky out while sipping from the tin cup thermos cap. Great times. THAT, my friend - is the wealth one gains from prospectin'.

Some parts of California - the people don’t pay much mind to the commie filth wretches - or their hatred of constitutional freedoms or the like. There’s freedom for those that TAKE it. For those that command it. I earned it in Grenada and Honduras, wouldn’t have some freak having any say in it, either. It’s common in them parts still to this day to be prepared out in them parts. I ignore laws that are illegal anyway. Better to maybe offend some Frisco freak than to set myself up to be a victim.

We bought some simple equipment and started to pan for gold, off and on for three days. On the third day, the neighbor told us that five years previously a dredger had been through and cleaned out the creek. Would have had to wait about 1000 years for more to be washed down from the hills!!! I did take a jar of sand home as a reminder of my three days as a prospector. But we had fun😬

    Do you ever use Finish ( for dishwasher ) or a drop of detergent to break the water tension so that the small finds drop to the bottom and not float? Also, in your pan, have you ever used a magnet to remove the iron black sand?

    • @commonconservative7551
      @commonconservative7551 6 років тому +5

      I think the magnet idea has been looked into, there has been billions of people trying to figure out the black sand problem was curious about soap and how other chems would affect it.........how about cooking the moisture out to a certain temp , then quench it with with something that makes to sand float?

    • @lizzymoore54
      @lizzymoore54 6 років тому +12

      commonconservative , the black sand is primarily iron so a magnet does a good job removing most of it. The Finish liquid or dish soap breaks the water tension so the tiny flakes of gold will drop to the bottom but the idea you have works after all the other has been done. Team work makes the dream work! 😉

    • @commonconservative7551
      @commonconservative7551 6 років тому +1

      oh man ....ideas are cool cause they lead to interesting tinkering, how about this............melt the gold and black sand together and experiment with shaking it around and just letting it melt at different temps.........then look at it and record the looks and the gold stuck to the sand, then, run it thru the sluice to capture the big meatballs of sand and gold........if it works let me know please

    Next time you get a bucket of concentrates put take black sand and heat red hot with torch and throw it in water. Sometimes alot of the gold is coated in an iron oxide. Heating red hot and quenching in water breaks outside oxide coating leaving visible gold. Heating also converts hematite sand in magnetite sands which can removed with magnet.

      @EvilSearchEngine 5 років тому +1

      I say the same thing every time someone tells me the minimum wage is too low: Show me someone who got rich from the minimum wage going up.
      Basic math. Minimum wage is for entry-level, unskilled labor. That's the very basis of the economy: digging ditches, stocking shelves, asking if they want fries with that (Not hating: I deliver pizza). If the cost of that unskilled labor goes up, then the prices of the products go up. Ergo, the unskilled, minimum wage worker now has to pay more for the products they buy. Fucking magic!!! XD

      @EvilSearchEngine-- Your logic is flawed by the fact that prices ALWAYS go UP, even if wages don't. Minimum wage MUST increase just to keep up with inflation, and a minimum wage increase has NEVER driven inflation, it's a fallacy. Until recently minimum wage hadn't gone up for YEARS. In fact, the minimum wage didn't go up at all for ELEVEN YEARS from 1980-1991, the Reagan/Bush years, and decades longer for "tipped workers" like waiters. While you seem to think that minimum wage is only for teenagers, if you actually look at who is receiving minimum wage you will see that most minimum wage workers are actually adults, most with small children to support. Many of those minimum wage earners have educations and college degrees but can't find jobs in their fields. It's not nearly as simple as you've made it out to be.

    For those who think that's not a lot of gold, they don't realize that when you're in an area that is historically known for having gold beneath the surface, there is the potential for finding quite a lot of gold. A 10' x 10' x 3' deep area can hold many thousands of dollars worth of fine gold that couldn't be seen until the dirt was processed. Gold folks call that kind "invisible gold" and it's the most abundant type in the world.

    You should use an old wool blanket to get that small gold you said goes through your sluice Staple it to a 5/8" plywood after a nugget trap on a 24 degree angle . I have caught 3 grams on a blanket 6"longX12" wide . It works and I have pictures of it . The gold cube format is pretty close to what mine is designed like only I have the wool blanket on the bottom and the steeper angle . reason it works is it uses the angle of repose to get rid of the blondes and the black sands . The gold at this size is not round but flat which lends it self to being trapped in the wool blanket and the rounder blacks and blondes continue on down the sluice

I am still trying to figure out where it came from. The source. I wish i knew more people into this and wish i could trust showing someone because there is SO MUCH MORE to go and get. It's not a small spot by any means. And I didn't just get it from one spot I could have just stayed in one spot but I went from different spot to different spot until I just got tired and then I went home. We're getting setup to mine that sand down to there to next year. We're up the river on the Oregon side and it's just over a 3 hour drive for us from here so it's not that bad. Looking forward to getting down there for the weekend and digging in the sand. Hope to maybe run across you there someday and chat some. Thanks for the videos and the advice. My setup I've put together is pretty much the same as you're minus the extra Gold Cube stacks. I've upgraded my Gold Cube with the low profile v mat for the slick plate and replaced the vortex mats with the sawtooth mats curious more about your opinion and success with the sawtooth mats so far?

    • @washingtonbeachmining7736
      @washingtonbeachmining7736  5 років тому +1

      Hello Don
      Thanks for nice comments and the purchase of the sawtooth mat from us. The sawtooth mat works the best when running this beach sand. Reason for that is Hydraulic Equivalence. Meaning the size of the black sand and the gold have the same settling velocity under the same condition. The sawtooth mat using a back eddie in each ripple helps keep the gold from leaving and move the same size black sand out of the ripple. Thou not perfect but what a difference you will notice switching from the Vortex mat to the Sawtooth mat. If you need any further convincing, Mike Pung from Gold Cube has tested this mat from me and was impressed with it. It simply out performed the vortex mat on beach sand and vegetation dirt. It will be introduced in the cube come February 2019. This beach sand needs more time to process thru any type of sluice. The more sluice you have the more faster you can run the sand. We are using 9.5 cf of sluice. Limit is 10 cf. We run 300 lbs before we stop and do a quick clean up. So for your setup i would keep it too 2 buckets per hour with a clean up after every 2 buckets. Use the V-mat as your window. Add one scoop to the top tray and wait 30-40 seconds for it to clear out the black sand. Get a look at the gold, if you see just a few pieces, then look elsewhere. You should see 20-50 colors per scoop as good ground. Hope that helps. We will be out this coming weekend for a 4 day New Years Eve trip. If you are there then yes come say hi. Good Luck!

      therealnightwriter While I'll say that I'm honestly dubious of the efficacy of annual flu shots with how often influenza mutates, I also must say that spending money on vitamin C (unless you have a deficiency or reccomendation by a trusted doctor!) is literally pissing your money away. Vitamin C in supplement form is not absorbed very well, and is honestly just pushed straight through your system unless you have a deficiency, as stated before. There is little to no evidence to support any claims of it helping clear viral illness or infection, and quite a bit of evidence to support that it simply has no effect at all. Just make sure that you're maintaining a balanced diet based upon your own metabolism and needs, and that you exercise regularly, and you'll be mostly fine ;)

    What did you guys expect? big nuggets of gold? i think some of you here commenting dont understand how precious a metal gold IS. And especially when he is finding gold though this running water, you are much more likely to get specks of gold. But of course, all those specks of gold add up.
    The contraption he has for the running water was very very impressive. All the tiny specks of gold glistening in the settled dirt in the big plastic apparatus he has was wonderful to see. awesome video

    make your self a tray similar to the gold cube but it has to be on a steeper angle 24 degrees . No matts or riffles just cover the bottom with an old wool blanket staple in place or glue. This works for fine gold very well . There is more gold and less black sand . black sand is a harder material and is more rounded ( spherical) and its angle of repose is less than the flatter softer heavier gold thus the steeper angle . I have collected similar sized gold on a tray only 12"x6" square in the order of 3 grams on one hot spot. The black sand to gold ratio was a lot closer then what you have here . the ancients were right about the golden fleece it does work

    When you started the water, did you run your fingers or a brush over the mat to get rid of the bubbles? The bubbles let the fine gold skate out.
    I second the surfactant suggestion.

    3.25g + 1.62g = 4.87g @ approximately $1200/ounce = $188 worth of gold. Over 5 hours = $37.60/hour. Not too bad. I just wouldn't be shopping for a new lambo yet :)

      Less your 15% fees. Nobody's just going to hand you the day's price of the metal. They've got to take their cut as well.

      5 hours for two people...plus 3-4 hours at home cleaning up the paydirt...plus let's say they have to put 1/3 of their profit back into supplies, gas, etc...looking at about $10/hr.

      This was several days, not just 5 hrs. Then was the setup time, gas to drive there and back, elec to run the machines, cost of equipment, using 2 people not 1 etc etc. Also gold is not 100% pure so price is off, you also do not get paid market price when selling gold like this.. maybe 85% of that. End of day its min wage earnings, great to do if your retired or otherwise have secure finances and just enjoy doing it.

    Smelt the crude gold to make an anode and use electrolysis to plate from anode to cathode which is pure a thin sheet .The energy used is 112 watts per gramme so 5 grams so 660 watts at 21watts an hour 32 hours approx.
