Tony, Crystal, and newcomer Frank (Trisha's brother) get together and talk about THE BATMAN! The along awaited reboot featuring a new standalone Batman. Now that it's out we ask ourselves "is this is the greatest Batman movie ever made?"
Batman ventures into Gotham City's underworld when a sadistic killer leaves behind a trail of cryptic clues. As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator's plans become clear, he must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued the metropolis.

Tonys haircut looks cute
Just saw the channel Awesome Dark Knight Rises retrospective and wanted to drop a congratulations to the true star of the film.
Destroying the earth would be fun.
I love that we have so many different Batman films Like being able to enjoy different genres of music. Batman 89 is still the most entertaining for me.
Me too and I wasn't even born til 1990
I disagree with Tony about the Batman Returns version of Catwoman. Her being a strange cat zombie lady is part of the charm. That whole film is a strange but beautiful aesthetic artifact. It’s visually stunning and fantastical. It’s the Batman movie for people who just want the pure gothic dark weirdness. The versions of Catwoman and Penguin in it are perfect for that interpretation of Gotham. The great thing about Batman is it can be so many things. All the films have their own unique appeal and are interesting in their historical context just like different runs of the comics throughout the decades.
Yep, i am signing everything you said :)
You know what I actually kind of like about Batman Returns? It feels like Burton's individualistic take on the world. It feels like a real artist interpretation of Batman in his own vision (for better or worse). I still love it for that reason alone. It truly feels like Burton's Batman as opposed to a director just aping other visions. As much as I love The Dark Knight, it really is just Heat by the way of Batman. And The Batman is just Se7en by the way of Batman. But that's what I kind of like about Burton's Returns...it really does feel like its own unique vision. Sure, it doesn't always get Batman right...but I really like that it is its own vision.
Tim Burton, Joel Schumacher, Christopher Nolan, Zack Snyder, and now Matt Reeves. All director's bring their own take to Batman and his characters. They're all unique in their own way. There's something for everyone, and really no sense of out right hating a take or continuing to bash it. If something doesn't jive with you, there's another adaptation around the corner.
@@Dohsoda totally agree.
I’m all for creepy cat lady
Thank god for Tony's take on too many superhero movies! I grew up on comic books in the 90s and would have LOVED to see this... I also loved chocolate bars, but I don't want them for every meal.
I am so glad they agree about the Penguin thing. Drinking, Murder, Clubs, Drugs (even if it was the weird eye-drop things), Kidnapping, tons of physical violence, mass shootings? All perfectly fine to be in a movie. Smoking? Now THAT is too over the line! So dumb...
I'd love to see a horror Batman movie. There is so much you could do with like Hush, scarecrow or jane doe as the villian(s) just to name a few.
Thanks for the recognition for trying Tony! I'll bring a "Hack The Movies" sign next time I'll go to something WWE televised lol. With your face on it of course. 😄
You did your best
@@HackTheMovies Happy to be a "Hackamaniac" lol
This Batman review is almost perfect.
You guys need to eventually actually get a superhero actor on this show. Someone like Burt ward or Grant Gustin or a VO like Kevin Conroy. I think it’d be fun to set up the bit and then have them actually walk onto the set in costume.
Not sure if this is the best Batman movie. But it definitely was a great flick. Robert Pattinson was great as Batman, but as Bruce Wayne he had a bit of an emo vibe that I could have done without. It was an interesting take on the Riddler. The car was awesome! I had no idea that Colin Farrell was the Penguin. All it was missing was a Tony from Hack The Movies cameo.
Take it as this being before he rralizes how essential his Bruce persona is. He is still living in that misery and hate, his focus is on fear and vengeance. By the end, he sees the error of his ways, so hopefully we get Playboy Bruce next time.
@@Smokey1419 your assessment of this versions Bruce is spot on.
I would however prefer not to see the playboy version of Bruce in the next movie, as it is essentially a played out trope within the batman mythos. Rather I would like to see a different take, such as a ruthless CEO/board member that gives the public persona of being solely driven by greed, but privately (aside from being batman) helps small businesses & struggling mom & pop shops. I think something like that would have the intended affect of no one ever being able to consider that he is secretly a vigilante.
@@llhaken That would actually be a dope take, someone who seems ruthless and cold in the public eye, making it less likely for people to suspect the connection.
@@Smokey1419 ya I've always thought his fake persona should be something like that as to subvert and dissuade any investigations into his private life.
I understand the aloof playboy image, but acting care free & partying doesn't throw anyone off your trail when you're also constantly donating tons of money (publicly) to charities & orphanages.
Whereas having a public image that it ruthless & apathetic would cause no one to ever even entertain the thought that you care about cleaning up crime in Gotham because all the charitable work you do would be through 3rd party proxies & done privately.
Anyway just a thought. I doubt we'll see such a take because studios always want to play things safe. But if there's ever been a chance for somewhat of a radical departure of the character, it would be now with this current take by Reeves.
CRO TO THE MOON
The Raid is the name of the action movie that's getting an American remake soon that they forgot the name of at the beginning.
this movie is just simply a great take on batman. it was almost like watching any of the arkham games in live action. seen it 3 times already. hopefully we get a couple of sequels. fingers and toes crossed 🤞🏻
hopefully they don't ruin them later on.
26:18 Come on, somebody _definitely_ died during that huge freeway pile up 😂
So what if the Orphan Riddler in this movie was Tommy Elliott? He was orphaned when Wayne had his dad killed. A friend's theory, not mine, but I like it
The reason we got this Batman. Is because when Ben Affleck went to Warner Brothers. With his idea for a script. It was going to be dark and rated R. An when they heard it would be rated R. They told him know so he backed out. An they went this direction instead.
Completely agree with Frank on Batman Begins.
Penguin:”I’m Ozzy”……very clever loved that line.
Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman was GREAT. Her Catwoman actually made sense. She pulled the Batman thing, so to speak. Halle Berry's Catwoman was basically "LET'S MAKE SPIDER-MAN, EXCEPT IT'S CATWOMAN! SHE CAN HAVE SUPER SENSES AND SUDDENLY KNOW MARTIAL ARTS AND CLIMB WALLS!" Whatever type of Coke made THAT movie should've been flushed down whatever toilet they were snorting it off of.
I agree, Michelle Pfeiffer is the best Catwoman
@@mirvmn2 Agreed. For NOW.
Was anyone else blown away by Jeffrey Wrights Gordan. I was amazed at how immediately he came off a dedicated good cop over his head by his first line with batman. No introduction necessary.
Frank almost let the the mask slip about anonymous lol left is right god speed brothers but comedy is always gold
55:04, "His 'arch' was great, too."
I'm glad that some people are making jokes about the distinction between arc and arch.
Loved The Batman. Can’t stand the CGI heavy super hero movies of the last decade. They did a great job of adding realism to a comic book character.
There was a ton of cgi in this
@@HackTheMovies yes I’m aware of that, it’s inescapable sadly. What I meant is I don’t enjoy the more far fetched/fantasy super hero movies. They did a great job of presenting a comic book character with out it feeling that far removed from reality.
@The Wolf King I always thought the earlier X Men movies did a good job as well. They could make them grittier if they wanted, but that would mean less toy sales.
Hey guys! Been binging HTM at work for the past few months. You guys make my duties as an elementary school custodian seem like a laughter-filled stroll through the halls. In other words, you take the WORK out of my job! Stay safe and positive out there! Ol Bats came flying in just like the spiderman... Such a loss. Lol thanks guys!
P.S. Crystal, do you play any video games? Cause you have such awesome taste in cinema, and you are so passionate about getting into the meat and potatoes of the characters and stories. So, it made me wonder if you had any favs on the game-nerd side of things. Either way, you guys rock!!!
Glad we can make your days better!
I work 330-midnight as an elementary school custodian also! I survive on HTM, This is Important pod, and anything and everything On Cinema related!
That "Actor comes in and dies" bit got old immediately when you first did it in the Spider-Man review.
As someone who grew up with married with children I will never tire of a dummy bring thrown.
Yes
@@HackTheMovies great tv show
I am just as hype to see TV's Tony from Hack the Movies discuss the Batman as I was to see the Batman.
@@RetroBacon1 He's the guy from The Dark Knight Rises.
I actually really liked how Bruce was on the back burner too, it made sense he was year two. He doesn't care about Bruce or spending his money or keeping appearances; he's focused on the "mission" cuz he IS Batman and that's his priority. I'm with y'all I can't wait to see him start embracing that mask for the public, to see how this version handles the duality.
Bats being "great survivors" merely refers to them having survived for millions of years to now. It's not referring to a day-to-day basis Tony.
1:38:53 When i saw Suicide Squad the first time my theorie was that Jared Leto's joker was Tim Drake and that a big part of Aflect Batman was missing on purpose for upcoming movies and going in the vibes of a Batman Beyond continuity mixt with dark knight return
Wow it's amazing you both were wearing those shoes. ( I do own a pair, they really are completely waterproof)
So Batman going straight at gun fire without bobbin and waving, using fear tactics and just relying on bullet proof suit is not out of character? Right...
The Long Halloween 1 and 2 are very impressive animated Batman films
That in my mind is contender for best batman movie, or perhaps mask of the phantasm...
I love how it brought atmosphere back to live action Gotham.
I almost rented this last week from Red Box, but I expected I would hate it. So I watched Everything Wrong With, and found out I would hate it.
Also, Batman and Robin is the best movie featuring Bane. Bane is a plot device, meant to break Batman to replace him with someone other than Dick. His character depth is equal to that of Doomsday.
Frank's a keeper
19:43 When the review starts
What up with Tony's hair in this one? It's like he started to cut his hair and then he was like "oh, I have to film a 'hack the movies'". Great episode. 7 out of ♤ stars.
The joker doesn't need to be shoehorned into every Batman property
The swing/glide gag will never not be funny 😆 🤣 😂
Whoa between Trisha and Frank, that is one good looking family! Hope to see more of both in future episodes.
Good point about the Italian cat woman. I can’t wait for marvel to have English blade with a proper cockney accent. Because as we all know blade is an English character and marvel would never dream of washing away his ethnic identity.
Ben Affleck was the Veteren, Jaded Batman that had gotten more violent and lost his way, and Superman brought him back to who he was in the end.
I watched it in stanzas. It felt like a 3 part, high-budget, miniseries. Its just the way i watch movies sometimes and it felt great watching it that way.
Frank should've said "There's been a mix-up. I think we just killed Ben Affleck."
1:39:21 Yeah Keaton is 72 but you should watch The Protege, he might be old but he is still able to look badass in fight scenes
Glad to see Tony enjoy the film... :Sees what he plugs an hour in: ... GODDAMNIT TONY. Other than that, another awesome vid, hope to see more of Frank in these vids!
The MPAA would've given the movie an R rating of the Penguin smoked
I wish they had talked about Falcone talking to Wayne about seeing him as a kid, I took it as Falcone knowing he was Batman and giving him a wink and a nod, but not seeing him as a threat.
This is easily the second best Batman movie behind that one with the famous Tony in it. I love this creepy version of the Riddler. And hopefully this movie completely erases the image of Edward Cullen from the public eye.
Pretty sure that got erased awhile ago. Pattison has done any great roles that define him more than just the Twilight guy.
“He forgot how famous I am.” What a tool lol
I can’t wait to see Frank as Dick Grayson age 12. Alfred will be like “Bruce, why are you trying to adopt him? He has a mortgage”
Tony should read some Golden Age Batman comics lol
Im regards the cigars in movies, when Tom Hanks dis the role of Walt Disney in the movie “Saving Mr. Banks” he said that the studio didn’t want him in the film with a cigar as everyone who new the real Walt was a heavy smokers, there is a rule or law in the movie industrie if you put someone in a scene smoking a cigar the movie automatically converts into a rated “R” film.
i love how we already have an origin story for carmine falcone ….he rise from being sneaky sneaky in mr. deeds took his inheritance money and just took Gotham ..underestimate his sneakiness haha
I never care if Batman kills or not. I get that it’s a staple of his character but it doesn’t matter much to me
Tony the tool lol always with that “I was an extra in a Batman movie” 🤣🤣
Let Crystal talk more you jabroni!
Still love Dark Knight and Batman 89 as my favorite batman films
So is everyone in Trisha's family just unbelievably beautiful?
Nah the twins were most likely Twiddle Dee and Dum. The twins from Arkham were siamese twins, connected at birth and later separated, that's why they were missing one arm each.
You finally changed the ending promo scenes. Now how am I going to keep commenting "They never went to Mordor!" in each episode?
I love to eat "chocolate" at every Batman movie I watch. It really just seems to bring out the best in them.
I wonder if Frank will look like Tony when he's in his 40s.
I don't think the writer ever saw Hurt Locker
I did not know that deleted scene. I was wondering how Joker was already in Arkum.
I don't know, I think The Batman needed a scene with someone very famous. Someone like Mint Salad.
Were they talking about The Raid regarding the martial arts movie in Asia? Such a good movie.
Best Batman movie hands down.
One thing bothered me right away at the beginning of this movie. ( saw it last night finally) Was when the gang went to attack the guy on the subway. None of them seemed to know who batman was. Even though they just spent 5 min showing how his sight struck fear into all criminals. Kinda sloppy in my opinion
That's because not every thug had fought him yet. They just heard rumors of him. When he beat that guy up, they were in shock because they weren't expecting him to be the batman the newspapers/the news were talking about.
I just saw the Batman again and really enjoyed it. Great review nice to hear what Crystal and Frank had to say.
I can kind of get this take on Bruce Wayne, early on a recluse with some trauma. I think it was fun with Bale too who purposely took Bruce to be an over the top asshole. I like both
I thought the guy that Bruce Wayne locked eyes with at that funeral scene was going to end up being Joe Chill
How was Batman a detective in Batman Returns? Also, why his cowl shaped differently than usual?
I definitely liked The Batman but it’s not great. It needed some trimming down off certain scenes that took forever to get through. It also didn’t feel like Batman to me. Just some guy in a suit. However I’m interested in seeing what they’ll do for sequels.
You mean like trimming the scene where he bends down to look at the penguin in the flipped over car? Lol that made me kind of LOL Saturday night.
A long, boring snoozefest that doesn't hold a candle to Batman Begins and TDK. Overhyped to the max by the sheepminded internet.
@@RS-kt6bo I'll agree that it's not replacing Batman begins...I need to see it at home with subtitles and on my surround sound headphones in April.
@@RS-kt6bo I agree. Nolan’s trilogy is superior. Begins is a fantastic origin story. I give this film a 6/10. I’m guessing it’s lower for you? Which I totally understand. I thought I was gonna like it way more than I did.
@@LouieD85 A 6/10 is justified and makes sense. I'd give it about that as well. 👍🏻
I’m less than 3 minutes in and feeling like Crystal is about to become Trisha’s sister
I'd love to see a live action version of Great White Shark. I don't think he's ever been on screen and he's a really good grounded villain.
Frank is great! More of him!
Crystal is awesome
Thanks!
Gotham is so underrated
To be fair, Shang Chi was made during the pandemic. But for for a Marvel production, the green screen could've have been better.
Is my favorite thing about this movie is that you really really get the sense that Batman Catwoman Penguin even riddler that all of them weren't really planning on becoming Batman Catwoman Penguin riddler that this is who they evolved to become like it was their calling not that anybody would do what they would do
THANK YOU for mentioning his physical conditioning. I'm a molecular biologist but I've worked as a personal trainer. I got into an argument with someone who was trying to say he was similar in size and conditioning when compared to Christian Bale in the first batman. My main problem was: I don't want to be in better shape than batman. He should have remarkable conditioning if he's gonna be a 'super hero'. He shouldn't look like a 19 year old stock boy that used to run track 4 years ago in high school.
yup, canonically Batman trains like a mofo every day and has trained since his youth. He should be an absolute unit, somewhere between a pro rugby player and a mma fighter. Of course,if we go back to his origins, he was just a guy in a silly costume who killed criminals and had an underage twink as a companion...
But he's training to fight not to be yoked. Think Muay Thai fighters and kickboxers those dudes are usually pretty skinny but they're conditioning is amazing. Some of them don't even look like they worked out because the point is not to show off muscles it's to literally fight
@@stephenthedude4383 he's also supposed to have the conditioning that would allow strenuous physical activity. Things like scaling walls and the sort of activities that require conditioning closer to a gymnast. Even muay Thai fighters, if you look at necessary muscle groups, show considerable development. Just accept that he's not in the right conditioning for today's batman. He's more of the condition you'd expect the older batman concepts to be in. Basically a regular guy in a bat costume.
But he did work out. He explained that he was being flippant about the not working out thing and didn't expect the response.
@@willigagbob8243 my point still stands that I shouldn't be In better shape than batman. If he did any training, it must not have been extensive. This is backed up by one interview where he referred to the trend of super hero actors that undergo strenuous training as part of the problem with the industry. He's not in bad shape. He's in "just another guy" shape. He's in the kind of shape you'd expect from early batman models, which makes sense because thus movie is more in line with early batman comics where greater focus was on detective work. It's not a sin to acknowledge that he's not in the kind of shape most would attribute to super heros.
The Joker scene is a teaser for the Arkham series.
tony I respect this channel even more just because how you are collaborating with the fighting game community, kudos.
Yeah wouldnt say its the best, but it was awesome. I think Batman is finally being depicted right, but the world itself isnt as stylized, its lacking something. Just felt cold and empty, which i get, but i wanted more style for that, thats all.
Loved when Batman enters the scene an you heard his boots, they do that in many points of the movie and loved every time, tha was incredible.
Great review of this new Batman movie.
No, there has been a deep censorship of smoking in media lately. The creators of smiley friends on adult swim had a very hard time even having Satan smoke a vape on their show.
Tony is actually the Joker cause he can’t let go of The Killing Joke
I find it amazingly hypocritical that Tony is okay with Batman leaving Ra’s on the train, but is deeply opposed to Batman simply deflecting a grenade that’s thrown at him… 🤔
Well, Bruce Wayne saved ras once, and he came back to do a chemical attack on the city! I probably would have left him too.
He purposely threw that grenade at those guys after machine gunning a bunch of dudes.
@@HackTheMovies But that’s not true at all. I just now rewatched the scene to refresh my memory. A guy comes up behind Batman and lets go of the pin on the grenade. Before he can throw it, Batman notices and throws a guy across the room to disarm him. The grenade flies about 5-6 feet away from them (a survivable distance), but the dumbass quickly crawls across the floor and grabs the live grenade, which then explodes. What the hell did you expect Batman to do?
I love love love the red head
When I saw him land in the wing suit, it took me out of it briefly. My immediate thought was, Ok he's dead. Lol...either dead or paralyzed w/that impact.
Batman stares unnaturally long at that small child
Why does Frank look like Mac from Its Always Sunny? Lol
The Riddler- gritty reboot of the green bastard from Trailer Park Boys. Loljk Riddler was cool as a Zodiac killer type, he kinda looked like Jeffrey Dahmer under the mask(that or a evil John Denver). Either way this movie was awesome.
I don’t know if I am bias because The Dark Knight is my favorite Batman movie and probably the best comic book movie ever. This movie I had mixed feelings about. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it either. There was a lot of dialogue that was kind of boring to me. The action scenes were pretty good though. The chase was my favorite part of the whole movie. I feel like Robert Pattinson was alright as Bruce wayne. As Batman he was good. I had very high expectations and I was disappointed. Plus that 3 hour runtime. They could have cut a good hour out. All the acting was really good, the action was good (but needed more.) I think that 3 hour killed me and it was hard for me to get use to the new cast except Andy Serkis and Zoe Kravitz. I did love all the reference to Nolan’s films and the Arkham video games which I caught right away. The Riddler was pretty cool. Very different and this movie felt a little like a horror movie at times.
I'd love to see a killer croc adaptation based off the character from the animated series from the early 90's.
Regarding this Batman film I thought it was great. However, few things bothered me. There were a few scenes where I just wasnt believing in that robert pattinson was "Batman"..more like a punk teenager whose been skipping the gym, but I get what they were doing, that he was a younger bruce wayne still searching for himself, I did like the analogy of kurt cobain dynamic.
I also thought the batsuit was a little too, indestructible. I really liked that they were showing Batmans flaws, and that he was constantly taking hits and making mistakes...but the suit was just too invincible! Like he was basically iron man with a cape and ears. Cool, yes but that's the whole thing about batman is that he's not supposed to be invincible like superman, but actually mortal like anyone else.
Give me your lunch money.
He's to young for me
Not that it needs much help, but my LCS told me droves of 10-16 year old kids are buying up all Batman back issues from as early as the 1980's. Has this movie drawn in a whole new Bat crowd that otherwise would never touch a comic book?
Come on now let's not lie. 10-16 year old would absolutely despise this movie. It's too long and boring af for a kid. There's literally no spectacle and thrills other than the Batmobile scene.
I think we all can agree that we want to see more of this batverse
