  • This video I show you hot to calculate the Delta T, or also called, temperature drop on a residential or commercial air conditioner. This is not a cure all for diagnostics on an air conditioner but tells you is the air flow is correct.
    Remember if you do not have the correct charge on an air conditioner nothing will work correctly and you must be a trained professional to work on one.

    In a split system with an air handler (no furnace) ehere exactly do i take these measurements!? The filter is under the a coil , air going up pass the coil , blower above coil, heat strips above that and finally it vents up into the ceiling through a small plenum box. Where do i take the measurements? Below the filter and above the heatstrips inside the plenum???

      Yes. Before the filter and in the supply plenum is what I do. Sometimes I take a screw out to get in the airstream of the supply air. It's the same concept with an air handler as a furnace. Supply and return.

    Do you have the Delta T temps for heating? My furnace is like 140 degrees in the supply lines.

      Should be in the middle of what the rating is on the data plate.

    On older AC units without TXV valves, what was a good average Delta T rating back then? An online manual points to early 90's AC. Model is Carrier 38TG01830, 2.94Ib of R22, indoor air is spec'd at 600cfm, house is 1399sqf. I'm guessing 15-16 degree Delta T should be good?

      18 to 21. All air conditioners are designed for that 20 degree drop.

    Fan? Is that the same thing as a blower? How is that adjusted in a gas furnace?

    • @ChilesHeatCool
      @ChilesHeatCool  3 роки тому +1

      Well, technically a fan is used with out duct work and a blower is used with duct work. They do get interchanged. The way to change speeds are either a switch on the board or move wires around. I might have a video talking about it.b

    what if the delta tee is 8 degrees, but the house temp and ambient outside temp is low. will it rise as the heat load increases??

    • @ChilesHeatCool
      @ChilesHeatCool  4 місяці тому +1

      Really wouldn't check in low ambient. You risk foaming the compressor.
      Ambient and return air really do play a role in the operation pressures as pressure equal temperature and why it freezes with a dirty filter.
      Now if your doing computer room ac, is you supply air temperature cold or cool. If your supply air problem is cool, with good air flow than I would suspect refrigerant issue.

      @@ChilesHeatCool yeah the ambient was like 65F. i had to test it for a few minutes as i swapped the evap on the system

      Txv r22 you can get close but if its 410a, nope. Unless there is an available charging chart that specifies those Temps.
      Document it's to cold, we will come back if it doesn't work when warmer. You might not have had the head pressure with a piston to get the correct flow of refrigerant.

    Delta T should be determined by wet bulb temp entering sometimes the required delta t is only 15 degrees based on high humidity.

    To slow the airflow down couldn’t you just put in a higher merv air filter?

    • @ChilesHeatCool
      @ChilesHeatCool  2 роки тому

      Risk noise by starving it for air. If the blower is set at 400 cfm per ton, the filter cuts it down to 350, the blower is still trying to move the 400 and works harder to do it. Might burn up the motor with less air for the setting since they are air cooled.
