I thought you had SO WRECKED it at 10:00, but then went on to make a miraculous recovery! This is a great illustration of how incredibly forgiving the style of painting can be. I've been doing watercolor on regular paper and you could never get away with something like that. Makes me like this style even more. :-)
I just also switched from smoking to the vaping, and it is helping. Down to 3mg, next stop 0mg! So wanted to say good job on that-- it is a struggle! I so enjoy all your videos, especially the ones with the "rambling" conversation! Haha! Don't stop! And keep up the good work! :)
Fun watching you play with your alcohol inks. Bravo to you for quitting smoking! I had quit for twenty-five years and stupidly had a couple..., and this was 5 years ago. I promise to quit very soon! You are an inspiration, both with your art and quitting tobacco!
Shame on you, haha! Try vaping... the liquid comes in varying amounts of nicotine, so it's easy to work your way down to zero. You also go from inhaling nearly 4000 chemicals to about 3 or 4, depending on brand.
Have really enjoyed your videos with the inks. I'm waiting impatiently for some Yupo to arrive from the US - I'm in London. Have had some inks for ages but not used them successfully so can't wait to have a go on the Yupo. Every sympathy with the smoking. I gave up nearly 4 years ago after about 40 years of happy puffing. Now totally addicted to e-cigs. Goodness knows how much harm they are doing.
Enjoyed your video and congrats on quitting the nicotine habit. Just wanted to share a tidbit, heat makes the yupo warp, but if you used a hair dryer on a cool setting, it would not buckle at all. Best to let it dry naturally, but like you said, it's video. Thanks for sharing your work with us.
I tried my heat gun on the lowest setting and it melted the Yupo!! Hair dryer didn't have the same impact...but I'm still trying! Thank you for all your videos.🌞👏
I finally bought my Yupo after a friend loaned me her autographed copy of June Rollins book. Ms Rollins is an artist that comes to our local Arts Council and teaches. She has several videos on UA-cam and you might like them. She, unfortunately told me she was no longer teaching, and decided to work on her art. This is Rollins not Rawlings. Ms Rollins would NEVER use fire in her work. I do love the fire, however.
Love your videos. Thank you so much for sharing. Question though: what kind and what weight of Yupo do you use? When I do the same technique with a heat gun, my yupo buckles like crazy (permamently) and I really don't think I'm doing anything different.
I came across a unique way using my alcohol ink. I have Liquitex Professional pouring medium. I poured this evenly over my tile and then dropped alcohol inks all around. They spread out nicely and give a really nice pattern. It is drying now.
this is gorgeous!!! my color, blue! i took a class about a year and a half ago, but didn't pursue as wasn't good at painting "things" like trees, etc. much prefer the abstract. happened across your video and it has given me inspiration to try again. do you ever sell any of them?? thanks so much for the lesson! Jo Anne
+Jo Anne Eggers Thanks! Yes, I sell at shows, both tiles and framed works on Yupo. Nowadays I tend to do tiles to get warmed up, then I'll work on Yupo when I've gotten into the groove. Stick with it, and thanks for watching!
I actually haven't done anything on tile for a few months... I mostly work on yupo now, for framed art. That's not to say I won't again in the future.... I've still got a lot of bare tiles lying around :)
You should check out the dollar store. They have a bunch of frames. Some are even nice looking. Of course since you're a known artist you probably want to sped the money. I'm just starting out so cheap is fine for me. I love your work and I'm learning so much.
Never tried using alcohol inks but for long time been inspired and wanting to have a go would the rubbing alcohol ruin stamps if you were to try and stamp into the piece I get the feeling it would but I'm no scientist 🎨
I love your work...I don't mind you talking while you work great instructions and tips!!! Very inspiring I must try looks easy. what type of heating gun are you using? keep sharing looking forward to your vids
Thanks Mary Lou! I use a cheap Wagner brand heat gun. I think it was under $20 at Home Depot, but I've had it a while so I could be wrong. A hair dryer would work absolutely fine for this, but having my own heat gun keeps the wife from injuring me if I don't return hers. Safety first! :)
Is it possible to use stencils on ceramic tile's without it bleeding out and running everywhere? I'm just wondering how much control you have with ink when working on such a slick surface. Do stencils help contain the ink and give you really sharp clean edges or is there a lot of cleanup even with stencils?
Your art has evolved a lot since your tile tutorial. I'm finally working with this medium and love it! I am having problems sealing. Do you have any tips? I'm using the Krylon but it always alters the piece when I spray it which is frustrating when you get something the way you want it.
Really cool! Keep it up without the cigarettes- your doing your body the best you can and elongating your life. You are really talented. Learning a lot from your vids🎯
Hi, thats very beautiful, thank you for showing! Good that you discourage going on Smoking, seems you are a being who cares for others, some say we are all one conciousness. Do you know Emil Coue, he said that healing can be forced by autosuggestion. I dont think that it takes too long to get healthy from smoking again, if you say it like this, then it will be. In my mind also comes, that you can add nice sentences with letter stencils on these beautiful ink artworks for example like Rick Chiedle does. For example Emil Coues ......Every Day In Every Way Im Feeling Better And Better....
Currently I'm using alcohol inks on acetate. Have you tried working with it? If so, how do I go about mounting my finished piece in a frame? Do I need to seal it? Thank you for your help!!! Willow
Hi! Nice video. I'd like to try something like this on foam board I suppose it would work? Have you tried it? I wonder if it would make the work hard since large surfaces take more time to work on, causing the medium to dry. Very inspiring. Thanks!
Probably depends largely on the type of foam. The inks will bring out every bit of texture, scratches, etc in the foam. I've thought about trying stuff like plexiglass, but it gets expensive really fast.
Thinking of doing some white mugs (microwavable) with alcohol ink. What would be the best way to lock in the color and make it safe to drink? Thanks for your help. Cathy
Love the splatters. Just in case you check you tube from time to time: Where are you? Your new viewers wish you would return. I hope you absence is not due to 25 years of the nasty weed. Your videos are packed with information and creativity. Would it not be loverly that Yupo was a bit more heat resistant. I so enjoy your commentary. Return please.
Too bad to hear about smoking . . l also quit in 88 , but you using the alcohol 91 is hard to use by your lungs too.. l have problems with mine too, so l know.
I really enjoy your videos, very information and the work is beautiful. I have a question, would this method (pooling) alcohol ink work on something like gesso wooden board? I really like this effect but would like to try this to create large pieces (48" x 36"). If gesso wood board wouldnt work, what do you surface would you suggest aside from yupo paper?? Thanks in advance :D
Wow! Wow! Wow! Love this one! great texture and colours

+Carol Lee Thanks for watching! Yupo is amazing stuff. Been vaping about a year... have to figure out how to kill that habit now, lol. Good luck!

The heavier yupo can handle the heat gun quite a bit better.
Gorgeous, love it
I love this one. Thanks for sharing. Cathy

Very pretty and i never noticed your breathing.
wow I love your videos and you make awesome ink art. I'm a vaper too after 40 years smoking :)
Congrats! And thanks for watching! :)

*might* (stupid autocorrect)

Hello! coming back anytime soon? missing your great works with ink and tile.
I actually haven't done anything on tile for a few months... I mostly work on yupo now, for framed art. That's not to say I won't again in the future.... I've still got a lot of bare tiles lying around :)

I get most of my 5x7 frames at walmart for $1. I’m all about some savings ;)

I use Helmsman Spar Urethane in a spray (high gloss). Never had any issues with it altering the inks. I've also got a short video on how I seal tiles.
I'll check out that video, thanks!
Really cool! Keep it up without the cigarettes- your doing your body the best you can and elongating your life. You are really talented. Learning a lot from your vids🎯

Also what is the metal that the paper is sitting on?
try a white thicker frame. I think it would look very classy.
Go for you for the quitting smoking!
+Nick Doe Thanks! Now I'm trying to break the habit of sucking on a 0% nicotine vape, after months of reducing the percentage, lol
You'll do it - :D

There are food-safe resins out there, but that's a world of products I've never messed with, sorry. :)
11:37 - thank you for taking care of those white areas near the edge. Those were really starting to bug me. :-)
it's fabulus!
What?!!!! WalMart associated with low quality?!!! UNHEARD OF! :D
Do you have a hompage or facebook where you post your work?
Fire fire fire
Is there a right or wrong side of the yupo?
is that water that he is using or what??
+J.K Rice Art & Photography It's 91% rubbing alcohol, and the metal is just a scrap sheet of aluminum I use for a smooth surface.

Too bad to hear about smoking . . l also quit in 88 , but you using the alcohol 91 is hard to use by your lungs too.. l have problems with mine too, so l know.
Great job. . 😎 😎 😎
What % of alcohol do you use ?
+Pinky 90%
Thanks :- )

Crystal, Blick has 26" x 40" Yupo sheets, and you can get a roll of 60" x 10 yards. =^) www.dickblick.com/items/10067-1040/
