@@RegalGentlemanHi Dan, I am growing my hair out, I started from an under cut, clean 1 on sides from parting, am I on the right track or should I have started from a skin fade, can an undercut be connected later? Thanks 😊
Been a barber myself it is hard trying to explain to a client how a cut their dead set on won’t work with their current hair Dan absolutely smashes it as per and makes sure the cut is as close to the clients request as possible 🔥🔥
20:35 The name of the hairstyle is a Two Block Cut (with the 3/7 parting on top like the client wanted). In simple terms, it's essentially an undercut with medium length textured or layered bowl cut on top. In recent years, it was popularized in South Korea from male actors and K-pop artists. Asian hair is stiff and grows outwards like a porcupine so the Two Block Cut actually helps to mask that problem. The client went to a hairstylist who specialized in European/Western Hairstyles when he should have went to one that specialized in Asian hairstyles.
he already did it before in this video i think two block and a very good one too. side cant be too short, if not it will be disconected haircut. ua-cam.com/video/V1KoT2nVgeU/v-deo.html
You typed a paragraph to try show off knowledge but ended off with absolute nonsense. Any good barber is thought how to cut any type of hair, as seen in this video mate 😉
The dilemma that he talks about here isn’t the Two block cut itself (although he doesn’t seem to know what it is). He is saying that it hasn’t been cut very well. Basically it’s too high and not straight parted. My mum cuts my hair lol and mine is also too high and not straight. I’m working on it.
@@eoindenniston2611 Well it’s about speciality. I have barber friends and they have experience cutting Asian Hair too. However, if you are looking for a very pleasing finish, then you should go to the appropriate barber. Like if you have African hair and you want braids or dreads, you would definitely go to an African Hairdresser. Same goes for Asian hair.
I love how you're realistic with your clients from the start when they have a certain expectation that isn't always possible. I also understand the struggle when for the client it's as simple as "just run a no. 1 all the way up" or "my friend did it this way so just do that" but as the professional you know that's not the way to go for so many reasons. You strike a great balance of giving the customer what they want but also giving a technically "correct" haircut. Amazing job on this one Dan! You impress me more and more every video!

This guy could get a perm to retain the volume of what he’s after and have the style he desires, especially because Asian hair is coarse, straight, spiky and stubbly to retain the style and its silhouette.
It takes someone who REALLY knows hair to fix the problem this guy had. And Dan REALLY knows how to cut hair, not only how to fix a bad cut but what will ultimately look best on his customers. Amazing!
Clean result as usual. But, I'm not sure Dan and the client were connecting on what the client wanted. I think the client might be better suited heading to an Asian stylist/barber. I think it might be a cultural thing. I could be wrong.
To be fair, it was a hard foundation to start with given what Dan had to work with, not sure either party was 100% happy with the result but was the best that could have been done, laos the client could have easily chosen an Asian stylist if he wasn't comfortable with a non-Asian hairdresser too
I think the client want some kind of Japanese two blok hairstyle.. and that kind of hairstyle is not really common in western culture.. yeah, i got your point. Heading to asian hair salon maybe best..
Yes definitely. Cutting asian hair is slightly different than white hair, most of the time it is cut way too high. The problem is, most asian people have rounder and smaller heads than white people, so when a person who is used to cutting white hair, cuts asian hair, the hair parting is usually too high up which accentuates the round/egg shape of the head. That's why the two block haircut (most kpop idols have it) works so well on asian people
The client didn’t exactly help Dan to understand what he wanted! When I have a client like that I exercise as much patience as possible but eventually you just have to do what you think is best.
I think there’s some misunderstandings in this video, so let me try to hopefully explain it to you guys. The guy was requesting a a haircut which I believe was a description of a “2-block haricut”. This type of haircut is very popular in Asia, South Korea specifically, and it is basically an undercut, but with a more unique style. I don’t think Dan was very familiarized with the type of haircut he described, that’s why the client was trying to be more specific in detail. However, if you search up some videos on the “2-block haircut”, it is quite more simple than you think.
@@bulldowg3 Well, there isn’t really one style of a 2-block haircut, what it really means is just an undercut. Your hair can be long, medium, even short, and what it essentially does is it brings down the hair on the top to the sides, pressing down on the short hairs under it. This sort of movement allows Asian hair to look more ‘flat’ on the sides, which we struggle with.
I also do my own hair. Since corona and barbers went closed i was like yeahh i can do it myself. And it actually look good. Only the back is very difficult because you cant do scissor over comb etc etc. And cutting the back is very very challenging 😂 But it works. I always do a skinfade with longer hair on top.
Well, Dan, you have cut a hair that is very common here in Latin America, because the "Native Americans" come from Asia, like this guy, and therefore have the same hair characteristics. It is a hard, thick hair, with irregular growth on the sides. Mixes with Europeans sometimes make it softer, but with lateral projections towards the temple, or directly projected forward. There are also frizzy, curly and hard ... uuff, difficult hairs.
I said the exact same thing Monday night, as a barber it is very frustrating when a client wants something they can’t have because of a lockdown fuck up😂

True, should not shave the side man hahaha and nothing the barber can do to fix that, he can only do what the best depends on the customer current hair situation
Dan did pretty good, it does look like a two block cut if he wanted that style, the top is just a bit longer for my usual two block styles that I like but it's good.
Damn this guy is too good, he already had so much to do and he was suggesting to do a 0 taper on the back, so he went the extra mile entirely just for the customer. Other barbers may have been too lazy and won’t care as much. Top barber 🔥
Exception to the rule, I had a hair stylist completely shave my back to just beyond the crown, when I went in for a low trim/fade of my bob hairstyle. It was bad, (its been 23 days.) I thought maybe he was rocking the clippers but, he did not have a guide on it. He did the sides too, way up. Despite having pulled my hair up, I think he just shaved right into it. He did it so really fast, 30 seconds maybe, he went so fast. I stopped him when I looked up and saw. Anyhow, this is how I found out about fades and barbers. I am going to an awesome barbershop locally in Arizona now, while I grow out. Man, the stylist really did a number on me. Sure I got a refund but, wows. He did so much worse than a self cut and it is crazy.
I have thick straight asian hair. Trust me when I say this, but If I had a barber like Dan I would not seek anyone else. It is really difficult to find someone who cares about the client and is not afraid to communicate on what can and can’t work. There are many times in the past where I put my trust in a new barber, and they just follow my instructions to the T. Of course, it is no fault of their own, but since I have never experienced a good cut with my hair type, I typically just request something basic just so I can fix it up when I get home.

Well the back section afterwards looks like an old-school barber's bodge to me. Okay, so there's supposed to be a marked difference between the actual hair and the undercut, but the ends have been kind of rounded-off which has created a bowl-like wedge. He needed to leave an extra 1/2 of an inch of length at the ends, surely? This client won't be coming back for a part 2 (which is probably a good thing for all of us, judging by the comments!)
Even though he had his reserves about the cut, he tried to do the best for him🙃 Mad respect hes a tough customer, comming in with not alot of options😂😅

He needed to leave an extra 1/2 of an inch of length at the ends, surely? This client won't be coming back for a part 2 (which is probably a good thing for all of us, judging by the comments!)
Impeccable!!!
Genius.
I only go to one hairdresser in my life, a Vietnamese haircutting god named Tai, no man can beat him, except that Brit maybe.
Even though he had his reserves about the cut, he tried to do the best for him🙃 Mad respect hes a tough customer, comming in with not alot of options😂😅
This is Gordon Ramsays calmer brother, while Gordon pursued cooking his chill brother pursued haircutting/styling.
Edited: awesome video and sick knowledge on how to cut/repair a botched style. Wish more barbers were this communicative with their clients to get a good fitting cut.
I want my barber to watch this man and learn 😂
Great consultation
great job as always Dan.
hope your not disheartened by the clients reaction, totally unrealistic and un appreciative of what he wanted from you, great job though looked like a great fix to a dodgy lockdown trim
I've never had a conversation with a barber that lasted more than 10 seconds.
The video starts at 11:00
my brother did the exact same thing to himself and i tried i to fix it for him but i couldn’t!! i wish you had uploaded this video sooner lol
Great work ...👍 sometime it’s very hard to make the client understand the situation . All n all it end well ..
Skip to 9:40 for start of haircut.
0 - 8:40 ... "he's worried"
8:40 - 9:40 ... "still worried"
Well done Dan 👍👍
He is amazing
This guy totally destroys his hair and expects the Barber to perform miracles. As a barber I deal with this every time someone says yeah I been cutting my hair during quarantine 🤦♂️
I wish I have a barber like you. Sometimes they just don't know how to cut my hair, especially that I have a weird back head shape.
You’ve increased my income! Cheers Dan
That’s unreal! Congrats! Glad the videos helped!
Iv watched them since an apprentice and proud that I even understand what your doing and how you do it. Keep up the good work 👍🏾
every haircut should start with a discussion like this. i feel like a general rule of thumb is if your barber is ready to go after a couple of words, thats a red flag.
4 minutes into watching this and the client is pissing me off, he hasn’t a clue what actually wants and acheaving what he wants is not possible
I found the client annoying
Realistically, clients like this one are very common. They think they know what they want but they really don't understand what's reasonable. So even more props to Dan for being super professional and constantly checking with the client to see what he's okay with within the realm of possibility.
@@wesleysnipshair3048 I agree. They always want something radically different that their hair type can't even support. My biggest issue is when they insist on their parting no where near their natural parting
This is most client
@@TimelordUK or when you section the hair and they say they dont have a parting there.... like mate I know, im not done with the haircut yet 😂😂😂
💪🏽💪🏽 best barber ive ever seen
