The seekers disbanded the year I was born yet I’m still a fan of their music and perfect harmonies. Such a powerful voice from a little lady. What a little firecracker 🧨
Judith had nothing to feel guilty about. She gave the guys the 6 mo heads up that had been agreed upon. I enjoy all the music this talented lady did with and apart from the Seekers. Her work in trad jazz and blues is some of the best in the entire genre. Her interpretation of ''Sister Kate'' is unparalleled with plenty of other old goodies receiving Judith's special touch. It's all there for anyone to explore and enjoy.
They were all really in looks at this point - about their 50's. Men come to their peaks somewhere around here, and Judith really beautified with the stage/TV makeup at this point. She wasn't vain, but letting the makeup go later was more pivotal. But, truly, the inner glow prevailed.
Great fan of the Seekers, especially 1964-68. Judith was the key to their success. Their melodies, catchy songs & harmonies were sublime. Judith didn't make it as a solo artist because she didn't have the catchy persona like Dusty, Sandy Shore or Cilla Black, therefore songwriters were reluctant to forward material to her. After some 25 years after their initial demise, she still has this idea that she is was a premium solo artist, to which up till the day she passed away never fulfilled this objective.
This person who thinks Judith thought she was the soul of the group I think they are totally wrong. If she wasn't why didn't they get another girl straight away. She explained she wanted to do other things and I may say she did very well thank you
+Roger Green . What would you expect from Ray Martin, he's a confirmed donkey. The only idea that can ever go into and out of Ray's brain is that provided by tele-prompter.
It all worked out for the best. Who knows, the public may have gotten tired of them after a few years. Familiarity breeds contempt. They've been together again for 30+ years.
Durham is very derogative and keeps says its just a one time thing and she was a solo not group singer. What made her unique and timeless was not her solo act but her voice being showcased in harmony with the other three Seekers. She has a great voice but great solo voices are a dime a dozen. She didn't write the big hits. As a solo she seemed to play before small audiences had few hits, and was no big success. She should have shown a little more respect to her band-mates that made her a star playing before crowds of 25,000 instead of 150 people in a small club. Surprised at her crummy attitude.
I get what you are saying. Had she not been with The Seekers, she wouldn't have had the opportunities as a solo artist, which by her own admittance was a difficult transition. She thought doors would open but they didn't. However as a lead singer in a group setting with a wonderful catalog of music, there has been no better singer than her.
That is pretty unfair to Judith. Life's not all about dollars and cents, and she enjoyed her solo career, singing whatever she felt like singing. We shouldn't have wanted her to be trapped doing the same thing all her life. She came back to the Seekers when she was ready, and appreciated them all the more for her absence. I haven't noted a great number of times when she's denigrated the Seekers, in fact I can't think of any. She loves those boys, and the music she made with them.

People concentrate on the singer not thinking about the another members of the band who make it so good and special/ Basically her solo career fell flat on its face and she retreated into her own world. Its was only when here husband stared to get ill and he was on his way out/ He died a year after this was made she realised may be, she will be on her own, no children and the other people who had some links and family was the other members of the seekers. When you on top and young you get taken in by the accolades thinking you can do anything. She listened wrongly and paid the price for it/ Still she did the right thing going to back to the seekers.. Athol went into politics, Keith Potger, he formed the New seekers and the other guy not sure. The New Seekers had a big success in the mid 70s but the band that clearly copied and was influenced by the seekers was ABBA. You can hear it in the way they sing
In no way did JD think she was the "soul" of the group in many interviews she credits their harmonies and song selections as their unique aspect.Her husband Ron Edgeworth gave her his blessing to reunite with the boys it was a tough decision to make considering the agony both were dealing with then.I can't think of many 60's era pop stars still "doing it"(their gigs) well today. So,M2000 get your facts straight before you come on here and criticize the iconic Judith Durham whose career is on going w/a new album out "SO MUCH MORE" (highly recommend) now.... GO!!!
A couple of your comments are correct, but most of them are not. You're overlooking the fact that when she quit the Seekers, she was also having a lot of psychological problems. She explains all that in other interviews.
Thank you for writing what I have sought as well. The other thing is she and her husband didn’t have much money, and reuniting with The Seekers provided her financial security which she was going to need after he died. In an interview prior to 1992 she and Ron were interviewed and she said no amount of money would get her back with the group. Edgeworth looked pretty smug with that statement.

She did make the seekers with her incredible voice. She was the soul of the seekers. They had three other girls very good but not in the same league
