*1ST AMENDMENT AUDIT* FIRE DEPARTMENT IS SCARED OF A CAMERA (CALLS POLICE)

- ON 07/23/2021, I WAS CONDUCTING A FIRST AMENDMENT AUDIT AT THE AMESBURY, MA POLICE DEPARTMENT. I WAS MAKING MY WAY AROUND TOWN TAKING VIDEO AND FIGURED I STOP BY THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT. I WAS CHECKING OUT THE POLICE AND FIRE VEHICLES WHEN I NOTICED SOMEONE IN THE WINDOW OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RECORDING ME WHILE IN THE COURSE OF THEIR DUTIES.
I ASKED FOR THEIR NAME IN ORDER TO MAKE A FOIA REQUEST FOR THE VIDEO OR PICTURES THEY WERE TAKING OF ME IN WHICH THEY NEVER ANSWERED ME. I TOLD THEM I WAS GOING TO THEIR SUPERIOR TO GET THAT INFORMATION. I MADE MY WAY AROUND AND SPOKE WITH THE CHIEF OF AMESBURY FIRE DEPARTMENT.
I EXPLAINED TO HIM THE SITUATION AND ASKED TO HAVE THEM IDENTIFIED IN ORDER TO RETRIEVE RECORDS FROM THEIR PHONE. HE CAME BACK AND GAVE ME THAT INFORMATION. I MADE MY WAY BACK OVER AND SAW THE FIREMAN WHO SAID HE WAS THE ONE WHO RECORDED ME. HE SAID HE WAS CONCERNED FOR HIS SAFETY AND ALSO STATED IT WAS STRANGE.
SOON AFTER I HEARD THE RADIO CALL TO THE POLICE REGARDING SUSPICIOUS INDIVIDUALS IN THE REAR OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. I MADE MY WAY BACK OVER AND WAS APPROACHED BY A SERGEANT.
I THOUGH IT WAS IRONIC THAT THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CALLED THE POLICE FOR SOMEONE WITH A CAMERA ON PUBLIC PROPERTY.
THEY EDUCATED THE FIREMAN LIEUTENANT ABOUT MY RIGHTS AND STATED TO THEM THEY NEED TO IDENTIFY WHEN ASKED TOO FROM THE PUBLIC AS THERE IS ALWAYS A REASON AND ALSO IN THEIR POLICY. WE ALL WENT ON OUR WAY.

These public servants need to be informed that the burden of proof is on their shoulders when levying an accusation based on hearsay. Hearsay doesn’t have any credibility in a court of law. And is exemplary of a lack of do diligent investigation. Taking someone’s word for it places public servants in a precarious position when “lawfully” detaining and arresting citizens based on mere hearsay. Further displaying either absolute ignorance or complete destain for the law and the constitution..

When you asked if they were familiar with 1A auditing, in reality that can simply be a "citizen with a camera". Doesn't even have to be anything specific. I went to a tourist town like Montauk, New York(Long Island), shocking amount of 1A Auditors walking around there, hahaha. Everyone had a camera filming everything, citizens with cameras is actually very common.......... I guess the towns you go to do not think their towns are interesting enough for people to want to film them. You do of course.
All you have to say to any cop is.. “Why do you think I have to answer any of your questions?” and keep repeating the same thing when they continue to ask questions! 😁😂

Depending on the situation, they can be in charge, just like the police. Why audit the fire dept? If you can video from the outside, they can video from inside. Why is it ok when he does it, but not them.

I think what makes audits so interesting to watch, is the disdain that public employees have when questioned or even slightly challenged by citizens. They have clearly never been held accountable by us and absolutely hate it when they are. Shut and follow my commands has always worked for them in the past but thanks to great auditors like you things are slowly changing.

I would add that there have always been brave citizens like Press, but we never saw their work because there was no film. The internet and cell phones have removed tyrants' ability to tyrannize invisibly. Also, auditors like Press aren't only educating cops and firemen; they inform the public, who will increasingly pick up their cell phones and follow the example. In time, everyone will have a camera trained on any cop that pulls them over or talks to them-every single person.

Lt was very coy looking into the cabinet in the back of the truck. It looked perfectly normal. 😄 🤣 😂 😆
No one has mentioned the yellow chain with restricted access sign across the apparatus bay door openings. When someone comes to the station for help for medical reasons or a child looking for a safe place, don’t dare go pass the chain. It also delays response time driving to alarms. I’m sure Covid caused that dump decision. Amesbury Fire Department take down those chains and provide help to those who need it.

What happens if guys in the window were NOT video recording you or they didn’t take any pics of you either? What if they just watched you zoomed in or were just bluffing? And if they did record and deleted how would you prove they were actually recording and then supposedly deleted? Also often when I think I’m recording it actually is not because I messed up with touch screen.

The fireman are horrible. I had a call by where I live and I had four firemen illegally enter my house and when I told him to get the hell out they looked at me like I was crazy I filed formal complaints took me 3 months to get any kind of response and the response I got was bullcrap there was no discipline dished out nothing they tried to ignore me so I would just go away so now I'm going to take it to the next level. Great job keep up the good work man hold these fireman accountable as well cuz they're they're terrible people. I know not all of them but a lot of them they're in cahoots with these pigs and they think they're above the law and they could do what they want they're like sovereign citizens just like the cops.
