That's so sad and sweet. I thought it was just a nice slow and sad song but that makes me realize that Pearl and Marina are singing to each other, and are mourning the state of current Octarian society. Marina probably misses her childhood home so much, as she did have happy times there based on the news when she says she always gets a dopey smile on her face when she is reminded of it. Pearl can only watch Marina be happy but not sure whether she could forever forget her home and her people. This song is a lot.
I personally think they changed the name because one part of the chorus can be heard as “Come into the light, I’ll shoot for the sky” to English speakers. Friend from faraway would seem weird, since Into the Light is the phrase an English speaker would hear more.

It's so weird, I've only started to really dive into Splatoon this year, didn't play much of Splatoon 2, only finished the DLC like 4 months ago... And still this song makes me tear up. I'm glad I've decided to give Splatoon 3 a chance and I'm glad that I still had my copy of 2 just so that I could purchase the DLC and discover it. Also, Those dances and the little instrumental interlude are absolutely adorable!
