I see your channel has really grown the last few weeks, well deserved I must say. Maybe 10 yrs ago or so, I planted a tall Lily in a huge cauldron, I hadn't had it come back in yrs. Last yr I pulled out some things and added some typical container plants. Much to my surprise the Lily came back, it hadn't made an appearance in quite some time, I was thrilled to see it bloom, it's about to again.
Years ago I had quite a collection of lilies but they were decimated by the red lily beetles. I gave up after a couple of seasons and dug them all up since the beetles were actually deforming the plants. Last year, after seeing a Black Beauty OT, I plunged back into lilies again. I love them all for various reasons, but I want to say Beijing Moon & Rising Moon are my current show stoppers. Oh, and my martagon lilies are so delicate!
Wow..such beautiful lilies - I especially love the light pink double. That's so interesting that they get shorter over the years if you cut them - I didn't realize that.
I have that Rose lily too. I brought a bloom in and put it in a vase. It lasted for almost a week. Your lilies are just beautiful. Thank you for the tour.
I love oriental lilies, I love the fragrance they add to the garden. I don’t use them as cut flowers so the more fragrant the better to me. Thank you Danielle, I will definitely be looking for some of the lilies that you have shown us. 🌸💚🙃
Such a pleasant treasure to have your own lily garden! Thank you for introducing so many new, uncommon varieties to us. I have been going to Bryant Park (NYC) a few times a week just to smell their vibrant, tall, abundant lilies.
I love your driveway garden & how quickly you developed it. I have a suggestion...your garage could use a pop of color. The service door could use the blue you have on your addition side door and a wreath or star near the peak.
I've grown Eyeliner lilies for years. I love how they look with my white or green hydrangeas. Recently I've grown an asiatic lily called Levi. It look wonderful with my dark purple leaf heucheras. The pink is warmer than most pink lilies as it opens and the white is creamier. I don't think that they would look good next to bright white lilies. But definitely an fantastic lily.
Oh my gosh!!! Your lilies are gorgeous!!! I am so jealous! I have almost an acre but have a lot of shade. I have a few lilies and love them. Casa Blanca is one of my favorites. It amazes me how lilies can fill your whole yard with their fragrance!
omgosh..Gorgi..beautiful video...Ive been wanting to try lillies for a long time. I have a persistent problem with gophers and rabbits. they have spoiled so many of my experiments
Those are beautiful. I want every kind of lily there is except for Stargazer. That one gives me a headache. That mystery lily looks like a "Cobra" which is an oriental. Just gorgeous!
Lovely! I have never grown lilies in the landscape because I just know the deer will decimate them, but this year I decided to add a bunch to an enclosed area. The few blooms I’ve already seen are magical. One is called Big Brother and the creamy yellow highlights, light freckling, and huge, contrasting, dancing anthers are mesmerizing to watch. The petals reflex and the scent is strong. Not sure how tall it gets as it’s new. I added probably 10 varieties and I absolutely cannot wait to see the rest put on their show!
Love lily season. Mine are finishing up here. I too have a lot of those rose lilys, salmon star, stargazer etc. As for asiatic lilys, I like to lean towards the LA hybrid varieties. My new favorite one this year is "Blackstone".
So beautiful! I have been growing an OT lily I think called 'Garden Affair'. For years it did very well and multiplied. This year, the stems were sparse and shorter with few blooms. Some of the clumps didn't come up at all. I'm not sure if I should have been dividing the clumps, or why they declined. I'm planning on replacing with a different OT variety.
Love your lilies! I also collect them and have to battle squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks and of course the red lily beetle before I can enjoy the gorgeous blooms! Could your no name lily be a Cobra Oriental?
Thank you Danielle for doing this video. I was looking for it and now you have answered my question from your other video about how the lilies looking after cutting. They are not one and done, but smaller, with less buds. Now, if you cut this summer, but don't cut again next summer, will they come back again in the following years bigger and more buds? You are a treasure, and love your videos.
I have more Asiatic lilies than Orientals. I do love my Black Beauty. It grows in a shadier part of my cottage garden. I won some free plants from Breck Bulbs this year. I'll be getting some Casablanca and Star Gazer lilies along with some Red County Asiatic lilies. I also grew a rose lily this year. I planted 3 Samanthas. I'm not sure I like them though. I'll give them another year and see if they improve. Your Edithas and the other variety looked amazing. How old are they?
Beautiful, Danielle! Can you tell me how many hours of direct sunlight your garden gets? You seem to be surrounded by trees as my garden is also. I don’t have trees directly above any part of my garden, but some things just won’t thrive. I’m wondering if they need more light. However, some things just fry.
Thanks for sharing! I love lilies and I have an OT called Pretty Woman. It’s quite similar to Casablanca. Do you cut the stems of your OT lilies down to the ground during winter?
Danielle, really really beautiful and my favorite is the Asian moon lilly.. I desperately want to grow some of these lilies and you have inspired me but we have so many deer here and they are a favorite of them according to Google. I’m surprised you don’t have deer out that way… Do you?
Your garden is always so beautiful! How do you address squirrels in your garden? I've planted HUNDREDS of sunflowers this year and I only have a couple dozen left, thanks to squirrels. I have a fence, sprinkled things in garlic and chili powder, provided food sources for the squirrels AWAY from my garden,...nothing works! And now they're attacking my corn and tomatoes. I haven't been able to harvest anything this year aside from peas and cosmos because it's all getting eaten!
You have my heartfelt sympathy! I'm trying extra hot cayenne pepper, mint oil, and something called Squirrel Scram, all together 🤞 What a nuisance! I also have a deer situation, but my tall fence keeps them out of the veg/cutting garden.
I have been frustrated by the squirrels as well. I bet they have eaten over 100 sunflowers seeds in my garden! I also am battling raccoons who have dedicated my vegetable garden! I have tried natural repellents, sat in waiting to chase them away, even purchased a game cam to try and study their behavior to adjust my intervention. Nothing I have tried works and now I have peanut plants sprouting in all my garden beds! Any suggestions on how to manage are welcome. Happy gardening.
Hi I have a question I live in zone 10 I was wondering can you plant asiatic lily bulbs right now or should I wait until next spring? I LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS taking all of your garden walks!
Good morning! I love all of your lilies. Because of your video and recommendations last year I purchased a ton of them for my new garden lol. They all bloomed. However, they weren't as full as yours and the blooms didn't seem to last very long. Will this improve over the years? Have a wonderful day 😊
They're all absolutely beautiful! I love your videos and have learned so much and am inspired. A long while back you had shown some birdhouses on posts and I don't remember where you got them. Could you please tell me? Thank you.
