I just love your garden and your inspiring tips on growing - thank you so much for sharing! 💚 That Hydrangea room really looks glorious!
Here in Norway we do use the method of freezing flowers in buckets - but we do it mainly in the winter time when it is snowing and freezing outside. Then instead of using it as an ice bucket you can put fairly lights or candles inside them and they become these beautiful ice sculptures lit up from inside. Excellent for lining the entrance area for instance. I sometimes use some of the Amaryllis that are about to go over for this. Can look really nice for the Holiday celebrations, and the bonus is that there is way less cleanup when they eventually melt 😊🤩

Hahaha I live in Northwest Florida, and the humidity is 99% almost every single day. I took a vacation to South Florida a few weeks ago, and the humidity down there is only 75-80% and the temp is always like 5-10 degrees less than here! It blew my mind! But yes, the Lord helped me get on a "Florida schedule" this year as I am trying to start growing cut flowers on top of starting a business maintaining other people's flower bed. So I have to wake up around 6am, work outside until maybe 10-11am and do inside stuff until between 2-3pm, and then back outside till it gets dark around 8pm. So I have to take atleast 2 showers a day, sometimes 3 if I wake up feeling not so awake. Thank you so much for reaching me about flowers and helping me to start my own business working with them! May the Lord bless you, your family, and your home and garden mightily in the name of Jesus!

Hi Danielle. You have inspired me so much over the past two years. Today i am delivering 10 containers of flowers and greens to the local seniors home for a fun workshop on ball jar bouquets. My mom passed away there during Covid 1-/2 yrs ago. I know she would have enjoyed it. I wish i could send you a pic of all the goodies they will have to play with. Anyway. Thank you

I'm always so impressed by your ability to keep up with all your different beds and planting times. Everything looks so cohesive & put together, while mine all just look like hot messes, ha ha
I feel like the flower ice bucket is something that might look more impressive if it sat on a clear glass pedestal that maybe was placed inside a larger, yet shallow glass dish filled with water and more floating fresh flowers. This way, as the ice melted, it might look somewhat like a water feature of dripping water into another water feature, if that makes sense. I do agree that more ice cubes with frozen flowers in them might be a good idea too, but this is a lot of work for something that won't last.

Ok … I was just thinking the same thing! Even my pots have like ten different things in them because I think something didn’t take … and then it pop up. Cohesive! That the word for next year. Thanks for finding the right word for what Danielle’s got going on at Northlawn Flower Farm … and what I’d like to get a little myself.

@@coloradotulips I hope you're able to have Cohesive next year. So much of getting that look requires planning this year, and I'm not a good planner. Requires me to stay focused. 😉🌻🥀💮 I see a plant at the store I like and it comes home with me. I try to figure out where to put it later. Sometimes it's just where it happens to survive.

I love getting in the yards and working hard to make them beautiful. I need tips on preparing the soil, my biggest problem no it seems. What did you put on your lilac's after you planted them? Any tips on lime, manure, etc? Thank you for the videos.

I really enjoy your videos. I was muted surprised to hear on Instagram that you deal with anger. You're such a sweet person but I understand we all have our personality struggles. I deal with anger too so I understand how gardening can be a way of dealing with the excess energy that you have to release. Its none of my business if u don't care to answer but I know for me, knowing what and why the anger stems from is a big help in confronting the issue. Mine was abuse in many forms. I also deal with much fear, which they say are relayed. As a Christian, I know the scriptures that we must apply and I try to. And thru prayer and the help from the Holy Spirit, He gives you peace. I will pray that the Lord will help you to find your path of victory over it. And remember your adversary roams about seeking whom he may devour! so watch, listen, use scripture, and obey His Word and we win in the end!! Amen? Keep gardening, we love it!!

It's beautiful, especially the lilies. I can't grow likies well in my current home because the deer are impossible. But I grew up with them , especially the formosa lilies, and used to grow them. One day i hope to move somewhere i can go back to growing everything I want instead of having it become an expensive salad bar for the wildlife. 😀 Just fyi, I keep hearing multiple folks mispronouncing cerinthe lately. In American English, it has 3 syllables, ser-IN-thee. I think it was a little easier back when I was a younger adult because there were several gardening shows on channels like PBS and then later HGTV. Now, I think most people are watching mainly You Tube so if a couple people say it wrong, everyone else assumes they are right and then they say it that way, too. 😀

I bought the Cool flowers book and just received it. I really want to turn more of my yard into flower garden spaces but we have deer and I already have to go out almost every single night to spray nearly every single plant with red chili 🌶 pepper spray to steer them away. Hubby says he doesn’t want to see poles and deer netting all over the yard. 😢 Deer were seen on my security cameras numerous times last night over a 4 hour period. They ate some hostas (one almost completely ). If i don’t get every square inch covered in spray, it’s getting destroyed 😭😭😭😭😭 It’s so irritating that I sometimes just want to rip it all out and give up. Also, we have several lily (maybe 3 dozen or so) and we get maybe 10 blooms because the deer will eat the flower buds before they open

Hi Danielle - thank you for your beautiful channel and sharing your knowledge with us. I am from South Africa (we would be a zone 11 in USA terms); and we are in the middle of winter at the moment (the coldest we get is typically -4 Celsius when we have a very cold spell :)), I have planted Asiatic and oriental lilies for the first time. Do these lilies only have one stem per bulb, or multiple stems? I am scared to cut of the main stem, and then not have any other flowers for the rest of the season.
Your garden is stunning and you are an inspiration. Helana

    • @NorthlawnFlowerFarmandGardens
      @NorthlawnFlowerFarmandGardens  2 роки тому +1

Hi friend! Each bulb will send up one stem. Generally the first year that single stem will have a few buds. In subsequent years you will get more buds but still on that single stem. I try and leave 1/3 of the foliage behind when cutting so the bulb can regenerate itself for next year. The more foliage you leave, the stronger, taller, and more flower buds you'll receive the following year. I hope that helps!

Hi Danielle, I was wondering how you keep groundhogs and raccoons from eating many of your flowers. My sunflowers, cosmos and even marigolds got devoured by them. I had to secure my veggie bed with chicken wire to salvage my peppers and tomatoes. Lettuce and swiss chard were the first to be eaten before installing the chicken fencing. lol. If you have any advice or tips on how to minimize the damage please let me know. I've noticed that your beds are not protected and that you don't seem to have these issues. Thank you for your videos they are truly inspiring.

Hi Danielle, thanks for a great video as usual! The ice bucket was a cool idea! Lol, no pun intended. Please, please let me know any experience you've had with the SLFlies. I just discovered the nymphs on my rose bushes last week. I reported to NJ dept agriculture. Only thing so far that's worked is dawn dish soap. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get any other info on what to do. Are they going to ruin my garden or am I panicking for no reason??

Hi Pam! I have them here, and we had them in huge numbers at the farm I used to manage. Here is what's working best for me - try and kill them as young as possible and early in the morning. If you feel comfortable with insecticidal soap that will work well on the first and second instar. Once they turn red that does not seem as effective. At work I used a shop vac to get them off the trees. Try and get them from behind, that seems to help a bit with how they jump. The only lasting damage I'm seeing so far is to one of our willows. I failed to notice a huge population two years ago.

Garden looking awesome, it’s changing so fast I would love to see maybe 2 garden tour in this months where things changes fast?! Also for the bucket if you boil the water and let it cool down before freezing it you can get clearer ice (no bubbles no cloudy parts) Also how is the dynatrap going? Does it work? Thank for your content!

Hi friend! Thanks for this great information! I'll try that next time. Unfortunately, the dynatrap is not working on the asian tiger mosquito. I can stand right next to it and still get bit. I saw some people comment that it worked for them, so I'm not sure if it's this particular mosquito or if I'm doing something wrong.

Hi Danielle, love your garden/farm and videos. Hydrangeas are one of my most favorite flowers too! I have a question regarding watering. We have very hot and humid summer like you. I have a new found love for cut flowers and started a small garden, but I'm having the hardest time figuring out when and how much to water. I have a 4 × 12' raised bed on 1/4" drip tube with 6" spacing. How often should I water a bed that size with zinnias, dahlias, and snap dragons? I was watering morning and evening for about 8-10mins when it was 100° but the plants are still yellowing and drying so I thought I was underwatering but could it be overwatering?

After you have watered for 10 min, test to see how deep the water has gone down, dig a small hole with a trowel or stick your finger in. A moisture meter is handy too. Might take a a few times before you know how long to water. Before watering again test to see how wet the soil is.

@@freyaa1905 Hi, thanks for responding. I always see water draining out the sides of the raised beds, which makes me think it has plenty of water but the plant's leaves are yellow and struggling so I thought maybe they're not getting enough. Maybe I am over watering. I should cut back and see how they do. It's hard to tell since the signs of over and under water are the same.

Danielle, can you tell me what the soil in your raised beds consist of and if/how you amend them each new planting season? This is my first year with raised beds and I feel like my ratio is off in these beds because my cut flowers are not thriving like they did last year in the ground 🙃 we are in the midst of a long drought here in Western New York so that hasnt helped either... anyway hoping you can help with info on the raised beds:) thank you!

Hi Kelly! I use a combo of our native soil and our homemade compost. One year I added leaf mold and that was great. If it's a hungry crop I will top the bed with compost before seeding. I purchased some top soil from a big company this year. I was concerned about what I saw, but it seems to be working out well so far.

@@NorthlawnFlowerFarmandGardens thank you! I had read to add aeration so I used perlite. I thnk it was a mistake or maybe I added too much. Hopefully I can correct this over time by progressively adding in more compost :)

Your ice bucket looked pretty, but I think the idea is pretty impractical, because if you leave it out where it can be seen, it will melt everywhere. 🤷‍♀️ Seems like a pretty mess. Ha ha
