    Awesome vid mate, I’ve been practicing for just about a year now at my university, been looking to play an infield position and always wanted to make my sidearm better 👍

    great vid...I would add that for those that don't have a good foundation of arm action from typical throwing positions (and even ones that do)...starting them on the knees helps get their upper half working better and then adding in stationary throws with proper upper half tilt is a good progression into walking throws into the full running throw. crawl walk run.

    My son just turned 10 this month. He currently throws side arm all the time. He used to have more of an over hand throw (maybe a 3/4 gap). Last little league season he was blessed to be able to pitch and he had respectable mechanics. Now during fall ball, he’s side arm all the time. The coach put him in as pitcher and he threw side arm there as well (complete lack of overhand motion). Coach was pulling him to talk to him about ‘no side arm’. I have held back telling him any absolutes because, obviously, there is a time for side arm. I want him to keep learning how to pitch and I want him to throw side arm when it’s appropriate. I really think he’s confused because he knows side arm works for him and he naturally wants to do it. As his dad, I want to help him develop all the throwing mechanics that will make him a great ball player. Just today, the coach pulled him aside and gave a talk about his throws ‘not being over the top’. I need your advice on what to do.

      I can’t answer that. It really depends if it’s because his mechanics are problematic (I have videos on this) or it’s really just natural and his mechanics are fine.

    Doing this to destress the pain in my shoulder, seems like a decent thing to try out today in long toss.

    I’m 32 and pitched growing up and by high school was between 3/4 and sidearm. Something has been wrong with my shoulder for over a decade and now throwing sidearm is the only pain free range of motion for my shoulder. The pain comes from the back center/top. My shoulder hurts from shooting too many basketballs in short succession, and steeper incline presses hurt as well
    Does this sound like shoulder tendinitis or something else?

    Do you think you should always teach to throw side arm for infielders? Or teach them to throw regular as the go to throw?

    • @DanBlewett
      @DanBlewett  3 роки тому +3

      Have you watched college or pro baseball? Sidearm is the default. It's absolutely necessary.

      you choose the type of throw that fits the play - it always depends how fast youre charging, how much time you have, etc.

    What is the age that you should start throwing side arm? Safety first!

    • @DanBlewett
      @DanBlewett  3 роки тому +1

      any age. its not any more unsafe than regular throwing, which has proven to be very unsafe (pitching injuries are out of control)

    • @DanBlewett
      @DanBlewett  2 роки тому +1

      faster release. Even though its slower, it's a faster release and it doesnt have to be 90mph to get the out. Also mechanically its not really possible to throw while on the run using overhand mechanics

    A kid named Drew Something something... Sounds like his last name is some weird fruit, but i forgot his last name.
    ANYWAY. I saw him throwing sidearm from shortstop about halfway in between 3rd and 2nd during warmup with a runner on 1st.
    He started at a normal shortstop position. He had to run backhand side, fielded it and ended up facing 3rd base, and then sidearmed it to second. Any specific reason why he did this? And what are some reasons to do it.
