Thanks for that perspective, Paul. Really gives a sense of scale that you do not get from your ground based videos. Very interesting and great that you could video while working! 🙂
You must have received special permission to take this ride. The public hasn’t been allowed to ride the bridge ever since the one lady had a particular bad accident on the bridge and in view of the general public several years ago. 😳😳 This is a nice informative video. 😊
Once again Paul, I must thank you for letting us live vicariously through your videos. I've wanted to "ride" the bridge since I was a little kid. Thanks again and stay safe and well.😸
Same, I've always wanted to ride it too. I've always imaged the view when it's all the way up was great. never thought of how it look from the counter weight
I've been going to Canal Park ever since I was old enough to drive. Back then I only went during daylight hours because it wasn't quite as sketchy as it was after dark. And I never could figure out how to finagle a way to hitch a trip to the top of the bridge.
HEY ill be there on Friday Saturday and Sunday. I might see you because I spend all my free time (all day) at the canal and some boats should come in so im exited.
Outstanding presentation, Paul. Always wanted to see the operation of the bridge close up and personal and you delivered a first class video production to show us how it's done. Fantastic job.
Amazing!!! I never really got the size and scale of the bridge from your videos. Fantastic view, would love to see a ship looking down on it from the bridge. May have to have earplugs when the horn goes off. Another great video.
Loving the video you should have a job for the tourism team in the near future,, if I ever get there I'd be happy,, seems a nice place ☘️☘️☘️☘️that's some structure,, how old is it Paul
G'day Paul, I wonder if one day you'll get a chance to show us the Bridge's horns and air compressor installation? There's boat nerds then there's horn nerds and I'm mighty interested in what constitutes the Bridge's voice. Cheers from Australia
Amazing views from up there! Thanks so much for doing this! We have been to Duluth many times in years past, and perhaps it's my hearing, but I've never been able to understand the recording that plays before the bridge starts going up. 😄
Wow very cool to see. To bad you cut the camera when you reached the top. It would be cool to see what the view is like from there and what all is up there. Thanks for all the content you provide.
As some one who is scared of heights, I felt sick and dizzy as soon as the bridge started to lift.. even though I know Im sat in a comfy office chair.... How wimp like is that!
Now that was really cool Mr. Paul. What a view. Be really neat if you could get them to allow you to mount a couple cameras up there to catch the boats coming and going.
When I saw the cement blocks I wondered if they ever tried hitting boats passing underneath. Big lakers would be easy but the little fishing boats would be a challenge. lol
Wondering how closely the counter weights match bridge weight? Are the cement blocks for fine tuning? If so, does weight change with debris or moisture buildup? Or other related factors?
had to show this to my parents as we all Love Duluth and this Bridge. so what were they doing up there? fixing something or making sure everything looks good.
So the control booth is above the roadway if my viewing of your videos is correct. How to the guys and gals that operate it get into it? Show that in another video ASAP. Please.
Sorry but got to ask this - were you scared or "concerned* taking that ride up on the bridge (don't worry, I won't tell anyone that you were if that was the case🤫🤫).
Thanks for that perspective, Paul.
Really gives a sense of scale that you do not get from your ground based videos.

Wow, quite the view from the top!
Yes it was!
You must have received special permission to take this ride. The public hasn’t been allowed to ride the bridge ever since the one lady had a particular bad accident on the bridge and in view of the general public several years ago. 😳😳 This is a nice informative video. 😊
It was actually for a project bid walk through.
Really awesome video Paul. Love seeing this baby in action.👍
Thanks 👍
Love seeing it - absolutely. Love hearing it - NOT!
Love seeing it - absolutely. Love hearing it - NOT!
Oh my goodness, what a ride!!! Awesome, thank you so much for the view.
Glad you enjoyed it
Very nice video of the bridge's workings! Thanks for this Paul!
Glad you enjoyed it
Totally awesome video ... wow 👏
Glad you liked it!

I really appreciated the ride. Thank you!
My pleasure, thanks !

@@judyhilderbrand241 it's amazing how it went from industrial to tourism at canal park😁
I really wish to visit the bridgehouse because I am so keen into meeting the bridge operator and seeing how things work!
Its a fun experience. pretty much like a really big elevator....
Very interesting video, especially to this retired elevator mechanic. Thank you for sharing !
As you are well aware of.......pretty much what it is!
HEY ill be there on Friday Saturday and Sunday. I might see you because I spend all my free time (all day) at the canal and some boats should come in so im exited.
If there's a boat, most likely I'll be there!
Every time I watch one of your videos I wonder about the lift bridge. Thanks for giving us this great perspective and video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
1:45 fear of heights!
I will say, you do watch your step a little more carefully when crossing that gap.
Impressive! Thanks for bringing us along!
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a great ride! The bridge looks like it's very well maintained. Didn't really see any rust areas. Thanks for another great video.
Thanks for watching, they do maintain it well!
great view from up there
Thanks 👍
Outstanding presentation, Paul. Always wanted to see the operation of the bridge close up and personal and you delivered a first class video production to show us how it's done. Fantastic job.
Many thanks!
That's so amazing Paul!!! Lucky you! Thank you for sharing that with us!!
My pleasure!!
Wow, very cool 😎 long ways down though!! Thanks for all the videos, you always bring Duluth to st. Paul when we need to get away for a while ⚓⚓🛥
Any time!
Great piece of engineering. Thanks.
Glad you like it!
Thank you for posting this and all the amazing shots you do !!
Glad you like them!
Very cool! Thanks Paul...👍
You bet!
Very interesting Paul i love bridges how they are built and how they work like this one.Stay safe from me in England :)
Thanks, will do!
you guys are tweakinn

Cool ride! Thanks for bringing us along 😊.
Glad you enjoyed it

Glad you enjoyed it!
@ Early 70's. They'd put you in a chain link cage built into the lake side sidewalk and lock the gates. The view was fantastic.
@ It covered about 20 ft of the lake side walkway only. This was somewhere in 70 to 72.
Great to see how it looks from a different angle, have only seen it from the webcam
Thank you Paul this was interesting. A new way to see the bridge.
You are Very welcome!
So cool. That would be a great bucket list adventure!!
Loving the video you should have a job for the tourism team in the near future,, if I ever get there I'd be happy,, seems a nice place ☘️☘️☘️☘️that's some structure,, how old is it Paul
Open for business 1905!
Properly built and it lasts,, providing that you maintain something, and paint it 😁 like that video awesome viewing
I'd pay for that experience!
You used to be able to.
That's really neat. Its nice to see that you are getting up in the world..........
That may be the only way.......😁
Now that's good stuff!
What a great video! You've really had some great opportunities to bring us interesting and entertaining videos. Thank you Paul!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That is really cool. I'm afraid of heights, and I think I would do this, just to say I got to do it. Very cool. Thank you for filming and showing!
Thanks for watching!, It was a fun work trip!
G'day Paul, I wonder if one day you'll get a chance to show us the Bridge's horns and air compressor installation?

I can try, not high on the hopes list. with Covid and such getting access is extremely difficult.
This was interesting Paul. However, I am not a fan of heights. Have a great week.
Thanks, you as well!
Was this a tour of some sort or an inspection and they included you because you got connections in high places? That's a very cool ride!
It was a prebid site visit for future work.
Amazing views from up there! Thanks so much for doing this!
We have been to Duluth many times in years past, and perhaps it's my hearing, but I've never been able to understand the recording that plays before the bridge starts going up. 😄
Glad you enjoyed it!
Impressive ....👍❗
Question: can you tell me were the horns exactly are on the bridge?
I searched and searched but I I can't figure it out
Right on top of the control house
@@PaulScinocca Thanks very much for telling my were it is👍
I search a long time for it 🔊🔉🔉
Wow, interesting to see this!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Fantastic video paul ,how did you wangle that ? awesome experiance, one to savour. top video envious
Glad you enjoyed it, it was for a work related site visit.
Is the bridge lifted by the cables, or is there a gear mechanism on the side of the bridge?
Wow very cool to see. To bad you cut the camera when you reached the top. It would be cool to see what the view is like from there and what all is up there. Thanks for all the content you provide.
The cut was not on purpose...😒
Paul do you use a camcorder or camera for you video. Or a camera that shoots video?
I usually use Go-Pro's (3) this time I was just using my cell phone......
As some one who is scared of heights, I felt sick and dizzy as soon as the bridge started to lift.. even though I know Im sat in a comfy office chair.... How wimp like is that!
You're not alone. I felt the same :)
I get it !!! Fun to see but hard to watch 🤷♀️
Paul, thanks for sharing! Did you have to use those steps to come down?
No, we went down the same way we went up. Riding the counter weights
Now that was really cool Mr. Paul. What a view. Be really neat if you could get them to allow you to mount a couple cameras up there to catch the boats coming and going.
did that once years ago, it did not go over well.......
👍
Awesome video Paul ♥️👍🏼 To this day this bridge is still the background on my iPhone but I took the picture at night 💃
Very cool, what a great background you chose!
When I saw the cement blocks I wondered if they ever tried hitting boats passing underneath. Big lakers would be easy but the little fishing boats would be a challenge. lol
more points the smaller the vessel........
@@PaulScinocca Seagulls 500 bonus points!
@@terryboyer1342 lol, no doubt!!
That would be a great view when a ship was arriving or departing
Friends of mine from NJ had their grandpappy working on putting the bridge up in 1901 I think.
The bridge was built in 1905 and redesigned in 1929.
@Bryan thankyou for verifying the year when it was first built.
Mind the Gap
that would hurt if you didn't....
Very cool, but in Canada, all participants would be facing fines: no harnesses/lanyards or defined safety barriers .....
There are safety barriers, just not really shown on the video.
Don't shoot so fast! Unenjoyable!
Wondering how closely the counter weights match bridge weight? Are the cement blocks for fine tuning? If so, does weight change with debris or moisture buildup? Or other related factors?
The bridge span weights about 1,000 tons. The two concrete counterweights weigh about 500 tons each.

Not a whole lot in the way of fall protection in place!
What a view! But my vertigo is telling me "don't even think about it!"
Vertigo,That would make it a bit more tense.....
had to show this to my parents as we all Love Duluth and this Bridge. so what were they doing up there? fixing something or making sure everything looks good.
Adding electronics to it
How did you get the opportunity to get up there
A prebid walkthrough for a electrical project
Are you still up there, Paul?
LOL, long gone....😁
What I would give to get a tour of bridges like that. Very cool!
Something you don’t see everyday! Did you get off the counterweight onto the tower structure?
correct! when it stopped, there was a small ladder about 6" you have to climb to get on the structure.
So the control booth is above the roadway if my viewing of your videos is correct. How to the guys and gals that operate it get into it? Show that in another video ASAP. Please.
The control booth is in the center of the structure, looks like a house, there is a stairwell that goes from the roadway up to the control house.
Some of your videos have drama. This one has the most gravity.
I liked that !!!
Sorry but got to ask this - were you scared or "concerned* taking that ride up on the bridge (don't worry, I won't tell anyone that you were if that was the case🤫🤫).
Not at all, I actually am pretty comfortable up there. Been there a few times for work related issues.
My palms started to get sweaty looking down at the ground as the bridge was going up. However, this video was fantastic!👍 Great job!
Did anyone say, "I can see my house from here"?
You know, no one did ! We all must live up over the hill....
Whew! That's not good for my vertigo.
I got queasy! Yikes
