  • The Cwm Coke Works is a large site just north of Beddau in Rhondda Cynon Taf, South Wales.
Originally the site was home to the Cwm Colliery which opened in 1909. In 1958 the Cwm Colliery expanded and the Cwm Coke Works opened. At its peak, the Cwm Colliery was producing hundreds of thousands of tons of high quality, low sulphur coal per year. Much of this was processed at the Cwm Coke Works, into high-grade coke suitable for foundry use. The National Coal Board closed the Cwm Colliery in 1986, and Cwm Coke Works in 2002. Since then the site has pretty much been neglected.
The footage in the above video was taken June 2014.

All my family worked here, it closed while I was in school so never got to join them all.... I lived in commercial street right next to it, as a kid played all around the area. Happy memories

This is brilliant - there's loads of photographs and videos of this site, but this really puts it into a new perspective - I really want to get there to see the works before they disappear forever (if the development proceeds). Did you get hassled by security or did you have permission?
It would be great to see a working coke plant given the same treatment - or even a big steelworks like Port Talbot….
    Thanks for posting it.

Thank you, it really is a great site. It is amazing how quickly it has gotten over grown and where trees and plants have managed to grow.
I didn't get hassled by security at all, but I was outside the grounds of the site.
