Japan’s Strategy towards the Global South

Strategic Japan is a CSIS Japan Chair initiative to introduce research from Japanese scholars on regional and global challenges and the implications for the U.S.-Japan alliance. This year, the Japan Chair invited two scholars to explore dimensions of Japan’s strategic approach to the Global South, as highlighted in Prime Minister Kishida's speech during his visit to Washington, D.C. in 2023 and the G7 Hiroshima Summit.

If the world based on concept of value, freedom, democracy and the respect of human rights has to be maintained, getting a strong support from the Global South will certainly answers the issue of inclusiveness, but may not be enough to maintain the world characterized by what has been mentioned.
Why?
Because if there are contradictions, these contradictions will defile the overall psychological culture that is necessary to maintain the world based on concept of value, freedom, democracy, etc.
And the countries that want to lead the Global South and which oppose the universal concept of freedom, democracy, respect of human rights, will oppose the idea of a Global South supporting the world based on concept of freedom, democracy, etc.
The Global South is perceived and conceived as an alternative in terms of world order.
Since leading the Global South will have an effect beyond the Global South, the countries that want to lead the Global South will always accentuate the differences.
