As a graduate of Sniper School in 1982 I can tell you that the M40A1 was and is capable of 1000 yard hits...I became deadly accurate up to 800 yards myself.
not necessarily, anti-materiel rifles are used for long range high value targets because can it reach farther than a regular issue sniper rifle such as an m14,m40,m24, m110, sr-25 etc thus thus giving the snipers a more safe distance from the target.
@TheShadoKnite The sound wave is only moving at 340ish m/s were as the bullet is flying far faster. True the "wizz" of the bullet will be in front of it the initial sound of the shot will not arrive for a while, and at that distance the sound is negligible. Again, if you were ever around firearms you would understand this. Yes, the bullet destabilizes during the transition, but only then. And as for the loss in direction, I never said that.
@Montyfiable you said a loss in velocity which can't be a change in direction because you can't lose direction thus a loss in velocity must be a loss in speed. as for the second I no the initial sound wave would be behind but the super sonic crack would be in front after over taking it when the bullet makes the transition , meaning you'd here it before it gets to the target, but of course you'd know that if you were ever exposed to firearms. destabilizing at all means bigger groups - no headshot
it's effective range with a .308 winchester is only 700 yards not 1024 yards. I believe that 700 yards round about is the super sonic range of the bullet, anything more and you'll hear the shot before it hits you, plus by even the 700 yards the target could move from expected position even if you predict his path, he may turn around etc. many things come into play at past 500 yards: wind, foliage, bullet drop, along with the normal small challenge of even normal shooting, breath pacing, etc. =D
@blackhughes The M1903 was 30-03 and 30-06 the m40 has better range and accuracy. Also the M40 is basicly a short bolt remington 700 with beefed up synthetic stock and high power scope.
@Montyfiable Two more things. 1st, backing up what I said before, losing velocity is losing speed, but a change in velocity could be a change in direction, yes, but not a loss, just in case you thought you saw something wrong there. Also let me touch on the fact that there are bullets (don't quote me cuz I don't study wildcat cartridges too much only some exceptions) like the 25-06 which is a 30-06 case necked down. and they are experimenting with the 6.5mm Grendel etc vs .308 for balance.
The M40 is the shit! How long will the M40 stay in service? Could there be anything better coming up(M110)in bolt action. What do the Marines in Virgina do to make it the offical Marine M40? Cool ass Video!
@TheShadoKnite its 1024 yards. reminton 700-800 yard m24 -890 yard Remington 700 P 26'' -- +- 1000 yard because of more powerful ammo like, .300 winchester mag; .300 super magnum, and a 26'' barrel.
@Montyfiable k first off, I just said that a CHANGE can be speed or direction but before the first time you said a LOSS which can't be direction because you can't lose direction. I'm not blind, I never said you were a dog, i just used it as a name. yes a subsonic round is still effective but you'll hear the shot before it hits you and it will become ballistically less stable unless your packing the higher grain bullets because when you get near the speed of sound other things take more effect.
@Montyfiable but that's not being very effective now is it. a .308 win bullet is hardly that accurate anyway at 1024 meters or more. aside of which you'd need lots of training and a good scope cuz when things get far you need to calculate the rotation of the earth along with wind bullet drop everything i'm sure you probably already know this. you know all about parallax error and atmospheric pressure because you've been round guns now have you? If you go to look those up i have taught you sommit
@TheShadoKnite Sure you have, all your doing is spouting common knowledge of off google. If you did shoot you would understand that even if the bullet becomes sub sonic, the initial sound wave is still far behind it. And FYI they make lighter bullets to ensure it stays super sonic, but you probably know that.
@TheShadoKnite You would know eh. Most long distance shots are made with the rifle at rest, so all you need to do is the math and pull the trigger. And all you need is a scope that doesn't vibrate and move. And rotation of the Earth doesn't need to be incorporated, your just misinterpreting the global winds caused by the Earth's rotation. you should also understand that those effects affect all shots.
@TheShadoKnite I don't understand why you are arguing this because I never said anything to the contrary. Never denied the Super Sonic Crack would be there I said that it is negligible. Yes I understand that, but would you want to receive a .308 to the chest, I sure wouldn't.
@TheShadoKnite I'm not "dissing" you, and your avoiding the original premise of this conversation, that a sub sonic round is still effective. And a change can be either in speed or direction. And, are you blind, I directly quoted you.
@Montyfiable but light bullets have less mass thus fly straight for a little bit but then rapidly drop from loss of momentum. why do you think they use a .50 BMG not a .223 rem.? I'm not using google that would be massively retarded this knowledge is stuff from my brain dog I have studied most all weapons for more than 5 years and not just simple things, one might almost call me a nerd but idc I like it so.
@TheShadoKnite Wikipedia doesn't count as studying. And since we are quoting here " retarded this knowledge is stuff from my brain dog ". If you have a bullet at 4000 fps [F] and it drops to 3000 fps[F] it drops more than another cartridge say from 3000 to 2000. The first may have lost more velocity but is still travelling faster. And yes velocity is a vector (requiring it to have a direction) and there can be a loss in Velocity. Just admit that a 15 year old outsmarted you :p
@Montyfiable First let's be men here, I haven't said anything to you, stop dissing me saying I don't know anything, I've studied all weapons from Koga's to Sako TRG's. 2nd I never said you were a dog. Third and most important, are you listening to what your saying? You said in direct copy and paste quote, "Light bullets travel at a high velocity and though it may be true they lose velocity faster they maintain a higher speed", if they lose velocity that means they lose speed.
@Montyfiable I'm standing here not outsmarted at all and I'm 14 so go someplace who'd you think I was some grandpa lol. your attempts at trying to diss me are horrible I know it is a vector and if you read my second comment you'd understand that a loss in velocity is a loss in speed, but a change can be a change in direction but not a loss. (loss in direction makes no sense) I'm not using wikipedia who the hell are you joking lol I'm laughin at you not with you dummy. i didn't call you a dog.
this looks like a sturdy sniper I'm glad they're putting this in blackops.
sort of like the M4A03 a great sniper . nice video m8

i like the 6.5x37 or 47 i cant remember which it was but i like that version .308/7.62x51 is a great catridge as well though

this rifle will do anything, hell weve hammered nails with it at base
50 cals or for taking out anti material targets, aswell as this but 50 cals are not a quite as a m40 and that is a mager disadvantage
The M40 is a sweet rifle. Just curious though, what makes it better than the Springfield M1903 ?
@TheShadoKnite it did, i mean really, thank you for caring.
Thanks.
Thanks

Name and model scope? 0:16

@MXBrian88 and also .223 .243 .270 and 30-06 and alot more.
R7000! and M40
BobSwagger65 Thanks for the info
cuase 7.62 isnt just .308. it can be 30-30 or 30-06.

I highly doubt that.
Too heavy and hard to carry, plus we don't need 50 cal to take down a person.
why do u put the bullet size in dynamics why not just say .308
@TheShadoKnite You would know eh. Most long distance shots are made with the rifle at rest, so all you need to do is the math and pull the trigger. leave the enemy vehicles killing to a missile or 50 cal.. Carry a 16 lbs anyday.
@brakuda66 Yup no prob.

i refuse to watch it
2 1/2 lbs trigger pull
this is a stupid comment but counter strike makes look to this awesome gun a piece of shit and its awesome.
