      1. Pegula played whole week in Sydney, Iga had to catch a plane and played on completely different court than in Brisbane.
      2. It's exhibition, it doesn't count to head-to-head.
Iga is still 0 wins, 0 losses in WTA 2023.

@@SmithyPL listen man don’t try to discredit Pegula’s win. Iga has been playing the United cup with her usual intensity as if she would play any other match. Maybe if it was under grand slam conditions or master 1000 conditions people would take the win more seriously but from what I’ve seen Iga got completely outplayed which is totally okay it’s tennis, you win and you lose. Looking back at the covid year, players were literally practicing in their hotel rooms to get ready for the AO, trying to give it their best shots. So I don’t care if Iga had planes to catch or not enough practice on a certain court, overall is that she’s an athlete, which means she’s perfectly capable of adapting rapidly to any situation thrown at her. I am an Iga fan, but learn to congratulate others, pegula played well if she faced anyone with the way she was playing she would’ve won.

She's got all the lethal shots in the book. She just sometimes doesn't use them, cos she hits so cleanly that she enjoys just rallying, and mostly wins easily lol, but I'm glad she's taking this more aggressive approach to matches now, this should help her loads. 1ga should solve this too, and their next match will hopefully be an epic 3-setter! Although the result was more scathing due to the lack of practice time on the surface for Iga compared to Pegula, this once again exposed Iga's vulnerability on faster surfaces. Iga's greatest strength is her footwork and the foundation of her success, since it allows her to almost always stay in position, and attack from offensive and defensive positions. But on faster surfaces, it's tougher to keep up with the ball. If Iga wants to find consistent success on fast surfaces, she needs to give herself more time. Slices are good for changing the spin and pace and resetting the rally. Drop shots are good for taking the baseline away from the opponent when they are playing that well. Netplay for ending the point earlier. All of this is easier said than done, but for Iga to evolve as a player and avoid losses like this, she needs variety.

Looking back this was an insane performance from Pegula, especially considering the fact Swiantek played incredible here. The highlights don't show how many winners Swiantek hit. However, it isn't enough when your opponent makes 5 errors (!) in the entire match. This reminds me when Halep dismantled Serena in the wimbledon final with 3 errors. Anyway, Swiantek is having a great season even though she isn't winning literally everything. One title, one final, a good aussie open, she definitely wants to keep the number 1 spot. But Pegula is also having a great season, she's just missing something mentally on those biggest moments. She will definitely win at least one more masters this year, even though a slam is probably just out of reach still.
