    Hello Arthur, I went to see a professional piano teacher when I was about 30, straight away he said I'd be wasting his time, my time and my money, he told me to get rid of my piano and take up another hobby, I'm now 67 and still yearn to play the piano, I wish you were around when I was 30 I'd have 37 years experience by now. I am going to follow along with your video lessons and hope to have some fun and pleasure practicing your methods, I've seen many online piano courses free and paid, by far yours is the best, please keep up the video's and help me finally get to play some piano, I believe it's never too late just as it's never to soon to start.

      Hi, I’m sorry to hear you received this terrible advice. I think it says more about that persons teaching ability than your own musical potential. Well its great to hear that you think so highly of my lessons. And you are right, its never too late to start, and with the right teaching, patience and approach anyone can learn to play piano. Enjoy! 🎹👏🏻

    I'm always on the lookout for material like this. You don't really start playing piano, in my opinion, until you break away from playing only "canned" songs and start expressing yourself spontaneously. It's like jumping from two to three dimensions. I just composed a waltz last night, my first. Not at all original, and pretty mediocre, but it's mine, and it's a big step forward.

      Hi Dan. Totally agree. I think I got to something like Grade 6 or 7 before I started to try improvisation. Purely because I didn’t know where to start, and thought you had to be wildly advanced to be able to do it. Little did I know that it can be relatively simple if you have the right tools and direction. Something like this is ideal for anyone wanting to have a play around with improv, whether they’re a beginner or more advanced. Great to hear you’ve been composing your own stuff as well!

      @J.S.4ever Рік тому

      That my goal. Always has been. It’s hard to create and understand what you’re doing when all you ever did was follow instructions. I can learn a song quickly but I can’t conjure anything beautiful on piano on my own. I know chords and inversions and arpeggios. Idk how to not sound boring and repetitive though. Need more than a 4/4 rhythm to, that and embellishments. Feel like something won’t click in my brain. I know too much to be this lost.

    Hi Arthur, another great lesson - am beginning to get the Interstellar variations under the belt, working on this will be next. I really like the way you give a really simple starting point, and then gradually ramp it up. Gives us all something to aim for! And looking at the comments below, it really is never too late to learn, and with the right level of practice and application, you will get to be a competent keyboard player and bring a lot of joy into your life as well. I wish I had had Arthur around as an instructor when i was young (but no such thing as on-line lessons then and most folks could only afford an acoustic piano - how things have changed!) 😃

    I cannot reach an octave, never have, never will. It’s why my mom never let me take piano lessons.

    • @BirdsPianoAcademy
      @BirdsPianoAcademy  Рік тому

      Not to worry. You can pivot from the 5th interval up to the octave with your thumb in the left hand. You don’t need to keep your 5th finger on the root, and just use the pedal to sustain it. I hope that makes sense.

    • @patriciaann6380
      @patriciaann6380 Рік тому

      That is such a shame , I really struggled with octaves when I first started but with daily exercises I can do them quite comfortably ( not always perfect ! ) now , keep practicing and you'll get there 😊
