Thirty years ago, not much was known about African culture, from cuisine to dance, but that started changing through the KanKouran West African dance company. VOA's Ndimyake Mwakalyelye talks to Assane Konte, Founder and Artistic Director of the KanKouran Dance Company.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BEAUTIFUL AFRICAN DANCE TROOP I WAS TAUGHT WITH THE DANCE COMMUNITY IN WASHINGTON DC WE EVEN DANCED AT HOWARD UNIVERSITY AT A SHOW DANCING WITH THIS COMPANY AND COMMUNITY WAS LIKE DANCING WITH DEMI GODS IT WAS FANTASTIC I WAS WITH THEM FOR YEARS I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE FOREVER

I went to Kankouran for the 1st time last summer. It will be an annual trip yo DC from now on. Excellent teachers and wonderful showcase!!!!
