- Residents of Goma and Kinshasa expressed mixed reactions on Tuesday to the ceasefire declared by M23 rebels in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, as the humanitarian crisis deepens following Goma's capture last week.
In Goma, where motorbikes and taxis have since returned to the streets, a displaced motorcycle driver emphasized the ceasefire's importance for aid delivery to suffering families.
However, citizens in Kinshasa voiced distrust towards M23 and called for stronger government action.
The United Nations reported that over 700,000 people were displaced in Goma last month, with the DRC government reporting that over 2,000 bodies required burial in Goma.
The DRC accuses Rwanda of backing the rebels, a claim Rwanda denies despite U.N. reports suggesting otherwise.
