- વિદેશની ધરતી પર ક્યારેક ગુજરાતીઓને કેવી હાલાકીનો સામનો કરવો પડે છે તેનો એક ચોંકાવનારો કિસ્સો ભાવનગરના એક વડીલ દંપતીએ IamGujarat સાથે શેર કર્યો છે. નિવૃત્ત જીવન ગાળતા રસિકભાઈ વાઘેલા અને તેમના પત્ની હંસાબેનનાં એક દીકરી કેનેડામાં જ્યારે અન્ય એક દીકરો અને દીકરી અમેરિકામાં રહે છે. સંતાનોને મળવા માટે હંસાબેન અને રસિકભાઈ મે ૨૦૨૨માં કેનેડા ગયા હતા, જ્યાં છએક મહિના રોકાયા બાદ તેઓ અમેરિકાના લોસ એન્જેલસમાં રહેતા પોતાના દીકરા અને દીકરીને ત્યાં ગયા હતા. કેનેડા બાદ અમેરિકામાં પણ છએક મહિના જેટલું રોકાણ કર્યા બાદ આખરે માર્ચ ૨૦૨૩માં રસિકભાઈ અને તેમના પત્ની અમેરિકાથી ઈન્ડિયા રિટર્ન થવાનાં હતાં, જેના માટે તેમની ૧૪ માર્ચ ૨૦૨૩ની ટિકિટ બુક કરાવવામાં આવી હતી. રસિકભાઈ અને હંસાબેનને લોસ એન્જેલસથી પહેલા તો જેટબ્લૂની ફ્લાઈટમાં ન્યૂયોર્ક પહોંચવાનું હતું અને પછી ત્યાંથી તેઓ વાયા અબુધાબી થઈને ઈતિહાદની ફ્લાઈટમાં અમદાવાદ પહોંચવાના હતા.

Nothing Wrong by American Airport authority . They will call ambulance and send to Hospital as its SOP .It can save life . Its their family mistake 1) Short time duration to catch other flight , must not be booked .2) Phone should have been provided to parents .
Yup. It is dam Son's fault. He can't pic perfect senoario. Like him travelling at young age with knowledge of english & other stuffs. Once I had to go to Air Port 3 Times to pick up my parents. Due to delay in flights.

Nothing to worry, one of my relative has gone through nearly similar experience, she has not pay hospital bill and no problem for going again to USA.
I have personally seen how these old people who can’t speak a word of English are just sent on flights by their children. Once I had to translate for an old Gujarathi Lady at Amsterdam airport. The woman couldn’t understand anything that Delta’s staff was asking her. She kept on speaking in Gujarathi and the staff asked if anyone could translate. She had no clue exactly which flight she was taking all she knew was her son lived in Texas. After this help, she glued to me as though I was her care taker.
a responsible child would plan safe journey for elderly non-english speaking parents. There are flights from LA to India. I flew cathy pacific from LA to Mumbai! It is true that Air India is best for elderly Indians to travel from Chicago or New York/New Jersey. But the son should have traveled to NY with parents. I did, when I was living in Michigan and my grandma was returning back via New York in 1987!

His Son was trying to save money. That's very common with Gujarati's they always want to save in every situation. I'm Gujarati and know many Gujarati's as they always cry for money even if they are blessed with the fortune. Shame on his son.
Traveler insurance should have purchased for entire stay. Children should have made better plans for parents.

They should have gone to air port hotel and stayed there for a day and take rest. Air port authority did right thing to send them to hospital. Someone should be responsible for bill so getting bill is normal.

No worries. Do not pay the bill. Medical Bills do not show up on credit report and passport history. They can travel to USA without any hesitation. Next time travel with Insurance.
It is a standard procedure and it is your responsibility to pay your bill so whenever you travel please travel with the medical insurance. And this is a very common things happen during the long journey so please prepare rather than forcing and posting this on UA-cam.
It is airports responsibility to call the ambulance if you are sick and it is your responsibility to pay for the bill.
Please buy the insurance whenever you travel and when you don't pay that the people who pay the tax they have to pay your bill.

Felt sorry for the elderly couple...we don't know their circumstance but they should never have travelled alone as they were vulnerable because of age, health lack of language skills etc....especially as they did not speak English. Its so important to learn/speak and perhaps have written notes on what to say in case of emergency when travelling to a foreign country. It must have been physically exhausting for them its not surprising the mother got so ill ...furthermore they could have taken a direct flight.

Mane India thi US avta 2 vaar connected flight miss thai gai ti pun amne bahu j saro support api biji flight babte explains karyu k which you are convenient and gave options , which I have comfortable that I select and they are gave us boarding pass of that flight. I think everyone problem is different.
1. When parents can not communicate in English, children must provide basic knowledge in English, in writing, so other party can understand them. Also, provide their phone no. And contact information so they can be helped. When the first flight was late, where were kids, why no one was with them. Or didn't show up for help..
2. When parents have sickness, their list of medicines, and why they are given, must also be listed. And parents must carry in purse w them,in both the languages.
3. Why were kids not contacted before admission to hospital...see above..
4. Kids need to be more responsible and parents must be alert. This has nothing to do w language.

First of all the flights with short connecting time is a bad idea specially when you have non english speaking senior parents. Their children should have known better and trained them properly to show some translation flash cards to communicate. I am sure in NY JFK they can easily find Indian language translator.

In any international travel, one should keep atleast 4 to 5 hours layover time, particularly for old aged person.

I lives in London and visit my dad who is 82 frequently as at this age can’t take risk and put his life on risk, better I go every 2-3 months and visit him

this is the case of son looking up cheapest flight for the elderly parents. medical bills and collection agency etc is not a criminal situation . poverty is not a crime in usa. do not pay the bill. rest of the story is normal, this missing flights happens all the time all over the world airports. so it is not much of a story either. seems like the person narrating this story as a grave situation has not travelled internationally at all. my entire passport is full of visa stamps from different countries besides last page. and i have suffered missed flights cancelled flights. bad weather etc. so this is normal. just deal with it instead of making a story out of it .

Get the name of the person of the Airline who told them that the medical will be free. Or whom they told that they do not have the money still they gave the treatment.
If the problem arise tell the truth of the reason why the problem started due to Airlines delay and file lawsuit against the Airline.
There's so many differences is an indian culture & western culture that's the reason for inconvenience to those old couples, they should never go to U.S. again without knowledge of English language as well as u.s culture....

This nothing new. First there is saying home is swarg, that's aways true. When you go to another unknown countries or splace, there is aways unknown risk, west is no different. That's why I don't bring my parent to us to face this kind of situation. Also Now lost of hurdle and cost. Inflation is high, living is not easy. Reality is people still think west is same and same aspection from nri relatives, but when they come home they don't even like them. with this inflation now it not possible to support everyone.
