    Thanks for the review. I'm looking to buy GH5. It would be first non phone camera. I have no lenses at all. What lens should i go with, the kit lens or something different? I kinda want low light performance but as you said they're expensive. I don't know if i need zoom thought. I would prefer it to have OIS too to match with camera IS.

    Alright even though this lens doesn't have built-in image stabilization if I use this lens on a Lumix G7 along with a gimbal, will I get stabler footage? My main intention is cinematography only, I have a full-frame camera for photography purposes.

    I am thinking of switching from the nikon d3500 to the Lumix GX80 and using this lens.
    Now I'm using the Nikon 35mm. Do you think there is a big difference in the quality of the photo between these two cameras and lenses?
    From photos I have seen on the internet I can not discern any difference. Also the plus is that GX80 have on body stabilization very usefull espesially for video.

    Excellent review from a real use perspective! Seems like a no brainer to have this lens. Just wondering if you've encountered any issues with focus shift? This has been widely reported and people seem to find issues of focus accuracy within the F2.8 to 5.6 range (since the camera focuses at F1.7 and then switches to the desired aperture for the picture, and the focal planes don't marry up). The only workaround seems to be to use camera in manual mode and have constant preview switched on such that it forces the camera to focus at the set aperture (although in low light situations it switches to F1.7 for the purposes of accurate focus...quite ironic really!). I'd appreciate your thoughts and observations. Thanks.

    • @TSTechGear
      @TSTechGear  4 роки тому +2

      thank you Sam. appreciate your kind words.
      No i've used this lens for 3 years now, I haven't encountered anything out of the ordinary with the focusing. the focus issues i've encountered are related to the current camera (GH5) and not the lens itself. I've never been very pleased with auto focus in any camera and lens, so I try to use manual focus when I can, and use camera features like "focus peaking" etc.

      It's real. I wish I have gone with the Olympus 25mm instead. I will say the Lumix 30mm, is sharp and focus is great -- the 25mm, not so much. You just never know from shot to shot. I would go 30mm in the Lumix line.

    I'm using the kit 14-42 for business videos for our YT cahnnell. It's always on a Tripod, about 6'-8' from the person talking. I'm not crazy about the image. It's ok, but I would like a little background blur, and, for our space, the images are always too dark at f4.6 (the lowest setting). Thinking about testing this lens out. Do you think this would suit my situation?

  • @DerSchaddan
    @DerSchaddan 3 роки тому +1

    focus by wire doesn't mean, that a wire is pulled, it means, that focus is controlled electronically with the autofocus motor - also this does not have to do anything with the lens extending/shortening while adjusting focus - that's a matter of using an internal vs external focus design, this is internal focusing, which means, that the lens elements inside the lens shift instead of extending the tube

    what would you recommend for getting into music videos?? G7, G85 , or a Canon??? is 4k necessary? Do I need good AF to shoot music videos???

    • @TSTechGear
      @TSTechGear  5 років тому

      G7 and g85 are good cameras. Canon is known for good skintone colors. But the panasonic cameras are better at 4K and usually have more features. To make good music videos, you need film making skills, if you have that, it doesnt really matter what kind of camera you shoot with. So I suggest, to not worry so much about which camera you get, but to learn to develop the skills you need to make good music videos. Seriously. A skilled film maker will make better music videos than a amateur with the most expensive camera. You see what I mean?

    You can't really compare an adapted full frame lens to a native 25 lol. The 25 with crop factor gives you around a 50mm view, while an adapted 50mm, in the absence of speedboosters, will give you around a 75mm view, closer to the 85 that is standard for portraiture. In addition, you'll be using only the central part of the lens, meaning you'll be avoiding the corner softness and vignetting you would get on the nifty fifty.

    This lens is cheap, but compared to Olympus it has huge focus breathing from f2.8 to f4.0 and, removed form a Panasonic body which removes CA on software, it has important purple fringing and is not much resistant to flaring (Same problem of the PanaLeica F1.4). The Zuiko f1.8 is more expensive, but has none of these problems. It also comes with a lenshood, which is unheard frmm Olympus. It is up to you if the difference in price is worth getting this Panasonic or the Olympus brethren.

    The 35mm equivalent 50mm lens is something you aspire to. It takes
    some photographic experience to understand just what it is you’re
    working with. Most Street Photographers start out with a wide angle
    lens. 28mm is very popular the same as 35mm which is probably the
    most popular Street Photography lens and goes a long way to
    explaining just why the Fujifilm X100 series of cameras are so
    popular.
    But for superb
    artistry, the 50mm is unparalleled. Although you do need to
    understand just what you can and can’t do with it. To get you
    started with any 50mm lens, you could do with an understanding of how
    the art of composition really works. If The Art of Composition is a
    subject you feel you could do with some help with there are plenty of
    books on Amazon and UA-cam vids to get you started. Once you have a
    firm grasp of the basics of The Art of Composition and a basic feel
    for how the geometry of a picture works, your photography will
    quickly move up to the next level. It’s not hard and it’s not
    rocket science. If fact it’s easy and you will be delighted with
    the results.
