You know you've lived the kiwi dream when you've been at a beach and watched children through to old nanny's doing the tua tua twist in knee deep water...cheers bro.
Tua Tua , definitely need to soak overnight in a bucket of fresh water , then the next day try adding some onion , garlic and curry boiled in a pot , then when it`s close to cooked , add some milk and a half teaspoon of Cornflour , to thicken it up . I haven`t tried that way yet , but it sounds pretty good . Chur .
@@rickoliver2059 just give it a good kick at the base and then leave them for a bit to calm down and chill out bro. 5-6 kicks over an hour or two and you're good to go..
I suggest soaking in salt water overnight... that keeps them alive. Then over night they spit out the sand. If you can suspend them in an onion bag, off the bottom of the bucket, that allows the sand to sink to the bottom, while the tuatua's/pipi's are hanging in the mesh onion bag. The rest of your recipe and method sounds awesome....
Bloody great vid josh great to see Dan again such a great west coaster mate ,and looked like a good green back flounder bring on more great vlogs josh one day will get to meet you kiwi good bugger , cheers, shaneo, nelson 👍
Hey bro the best way to get the sand out of them quickly is to put them in the bucket of salt water correct. BUT what you do is every 10 mins or so walk and and kick the side of the bucket to frighten them and they will spit before closing up. Do it a few times and they will be clean in an hour. 🎯
Always enjoyable and entertaining to watch. Keep doing you, lots of us out here that you dont even know appreciate what you do. Thanks for sharing Love your work
I love ya vids even more now that I have driven the same paths as you have haha gutted didnt get ta catch ya up when I was down there but there will be another time! what a awesome place we live in! Keep up the good work bro!
Purge them with some cornmeal in the saltwater overnight and they will be sand free. They look like steamers. Little garlic parsley half an onion or green onion don’t quite cover with water and add a beer even a dead beer from the night before maybe a pad of butter and they will poach like foir gras! Strain the water after they open and dip them in that water as you eat them and dip in hot butter and hot sauce delicious!
Cheer! Have you tried oatmeal versus no oatmeal? Looks like a bloody good recipe. I think I did that once when I didn't have white wine on hand. I often chuck ginger AMD chilli in with the green onion. Works mint for fish as well. Keep em coming!!! Cheer
add brown sugar to the brine mix, put them in plastic bag and tie it up. place bag into a tin and into the freezer. they dont freeze because of the sugar so when you need to use them for bait they are good to go and not mushy from being frozen. Purge them for 24hrs before eating wayyyyy better taste.
Always a gd vid from kiwi bushman look fwrd to watching ,need sumone who understands our country like u running it lol i say vote for kiwi bushman new pm 😉i grew up in blackmount an use to collect tahroas an tua tuas on bluecliff beach awesome spot for massive shellfish

Cheers bro...👍your a bloody hard case hey lol🤣
Pick ur tuatua or pipis while the tide is going OUT..they detox on the ebbing tide, resulting in no sand..when tide turns and comes IN..shellfish start eating (filtering), hence all the sand...
Yeah same, that's the way to go. A few people been saying fresh water but I've always used seawater. They last a fair while if it's changed daily as well
A tip for you bro. Use or don't it's up to you. But when cooking Asian flavors try and use vegetable oil or peanut oil rather than olive oil. It seems like fuck all but it will make all the difference. Love ya video bro. I've met you a few times in what seems like a life time ago. I from Westport. Keep the great content coming brother.
Hi mate, nice vlog as usual....just one thing - plastering the bloody fire? Come on, you could have piss on it and chuck a couple of shovels of wet send to put it down.....no need to use a shitty chemicals, there are enough of them in soil already :)
@@joshjameskiwibushman Plaster is usually made out of cement, sand and some additives if I am right. I am not giving shit mate, just saying....IMHO it just doesnt look good on videos using pre mixed plaster to put down fire. Thats it. Thanks for picking up rubbish anyway....

Kick the bucket and they spit cleaning out the sand faster. Do it every 10 minutes or so and they should be clean in an hour

that race was fucking awesome! hahaha
You need to put it in fresh water for the sand to come out
Salt water rinse overnight
That kills them and increases the bacteria count dude. Not good because they’re already full of toxins being a bottom feeder. No need to add to it
Cheers.
fritter😋😋
SANDY CLAMS Anthropologists studying west coast first nations were able to age the people by how much thier teeth wore away from sand in the food
