I really appreciate that she's shouting out to local libraries/bookstores. I've discovered some pretty interesting reads from this channel. And she's insanely beautiful, charming, uplifting and has a great sense of humor.
Elliot is definitely one of the few YT'bers I trust with my book recs nowdays. Been burned with terrible Tik-Tok taste readers lol, but Elliot has recommended some great books for me to read. Plus, she loves The Witcher, so extra horray! XD
Haha, I do love my local bookstores and libraries! If you’re ever in AZ, Changing Hands and Bookmans are both great, and the downtown library is really cool :)
I made a deal with myself that the majority of my books would be library books and if I loved them I could buy them down the road. I had a stretch where I had bought a bunch and ended up not liking any of them. Side note, I am obsessed with Margaret Rogerson and the fact that Charlie Bowater (one of my fave artists) does all her covers is just icing on the cake. So excited for a series from her.
Oh the Valdemar books bring me so much joy. They got me through a lot growing up. I think Elspeth’s series is one of my favorites. Tarma and Kethry’s stories are great too.
It's great to shout out to the local library- they need more recognition in general. ❤📚 I agree re the library being great to bring together communities of people as well as being a hub for a wide range of resources.
I love libraries for trying out new authors. If I like them, I feel better about buying their books. If I don't, I'm not out any money. I love my local library system. Their digital collection isn't great, at least for books I want, but it's a 70+ cooperative library system, so most things are usually somewhere as a print book.
I really wish Brazilian libraries received as much support from our government re: getting new releases and stuff like that. It's the reason I always try and donate anything I unhaul to those tiny libraries or to English schools instead of selling them, because I know just how much I would love to have had those options back when I couldn't always pay for them myself
i appreciate the "library saves" because i'm constantly grateful for the existence of libby, hoopla, cloudlibrary, and my local libraries because they're always saving me from breaking the bank. books are expensive 😭😭
Libraries have been a lifesaver for me recently. I used to buy almost everything I read, and now I find myself giving away hundreds of books I don't care about and only read once as I prepare for a move. I would have been way better off getting most of them from the library. Going forward, I've decided that I'll only buy nice editions of books that I know I like and books that I need for research (which, since I'm about to start a PhD, is still so much that I have trouble finding shelf space).
I think that’s such a great way to approach reading/book buying. Libraries really do help provide so much access to stories while also helping our wallets. A win win 😄 also, yay for being about to start your PhD :D
The Pima County Library is *amazing* and I love it so much. I'm also part of two libraries in the state I split my years in, and I just *love* the digital options. Me: is this local bookstore Bookmans? 😅
I really do need to learn how to unhaul and stop just sitting on my hoard of books even if there are ones I have no intention of rereading. How rude that you unhealed Age of Myth lmao. The only thing that I find a little frustrating about Hoopla is if I want to borrow something in the evening I frequently have to wait until the next day to get it because each library has a max amount of borrows in a day. But I love me my library apps.
After trusting you with Godkiller (which is fantastic, btw!), I was sadly swayed into getting If We Were Villians by other (now untrustworthy haha) UA-camrs - which I instantly disliked & was skimming by page 3 & dnf'd by page 30. So, I was talking to my daughter and she's got me into using the library for audio books. It's free and a wonderful way to support my local library and try new authors, or books I'm not sure about. Win!
I love love going to my County Library - the only thing is - is that even though I live in the same County but not in the same town or in the big city I have to pay $50.00 per year to use my County Library and the down side of this is that I can’t use Hoopla. Since I have to pay to use my County Library I can’t use Hoopla and I use to use it all of the time until the County Library System decided to charge people $50.00 per year if you don’t live in the same town or in the big city or the other surrounding little towns but mine. I love Hoopla and I wish I could use it. I do use the Libby App though so that is better then none at all. My County Library has everything and I love it. My High School English Teacher works at my County Library so I get to see her at least once a week but it depends on what day I go. My County Library has a fantastic website and I dearly love it. I can put a book on hold and have it within less than 24 hours. That is how fast they are in getting books from other libraries within the county. My County Library has the Self Computerized Check Out System and they also have a Computerized Automatic Return Slot and you can get a print out receipt for your return books if you want to. I love it. There is a local library in my town but they don’t have nearly the Variety of Books and Magazines and so on as my County Library does. They do not have a self check out system or a automatic computerized return slot. They are still using the old library date cards. Also it takes anywhere from a good week to a month to get a book. They do not have No Magazines - very little Audio Books - No up to date Non Fiction Books - No Cozy Mysteries. So I just go to my County Library which is 15 minutes from my house and the Library Staff is super fantastic. I love them all and they are so very helpful. The only books I buy is the Nancy Drew Books - that is basically it. Also too a person does run out of room on their shelves for books. I am glad that you use your Library. I really enjoyed this Video. The next time you go to your Library you should do a Library Check Out Video. Take Care & Happy Reading ❤️🤗🔰📚📖❤️

For awhile there was a push to have a New Adult section, which would fit the age range you’re describing, but it ended up essentially turning into romance books. Which, nothing against romance, but it felt less like a 18-25 year old fantasy section and more like…an adult fantasy romance section 😅
I don’t. Sometimes it looks different depending on what I’m wearing-since I film on my phone, the camera is easily affected by colors, which can make my hair look different. Also, sometimes it’s dirty, and looks darker since it’s greasy 😅😅😅 and then sometimes the gray/silver in my hair stands out more, depending on where I part it 😆
Hey Ell! love ur videos! I was wondering if you or anyone else had any book/ manga/comic recs for my little brother? Hes 14 and most fantasy books seem to cater more towards girls of that age. Also hes incredibly picky. If it doesnt have enough action, he wont read it. Anyone have any ideas?
Naruto, Bleach, My Hero Academia, Spy X Family, D. Gray-man, Dragon Ball, One Piece, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, and Noragami are all shonen manga that have varying amounts of action, but still quite a bit overall. Hope the two of you can find one he likes! ETA: I feel I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Fullmetal Alchemist in a rec on Elle's channel. 😊
Hahaha, I indeed would recommend FMA! Golden Kamuy is technically 17+, but they might like that one. My hubby suggest for comics Batman: Court of Owls and Seven to Eternity :) Solo Leveling is basically nothing but action, so that could be one. It feels like reading a video game. Same thing in Panama. Its so sad that Latin America is so behind in terms of libraries. I donate books to Metro libraries too.
I wish that too. It’s really thoughtful of you to donate your books-I can imagine that goes such a long way in helping your
community!
I have been ordering new releases at my Library. Plus the library book sale is a great way to find books. I know the money goes back into the library.
Yes, that’s so lovely!
Love the idea of Library Saves
Seriously the library is amazing!! Everyone knows it has books but it also has books on cd, graphic novels, audiobooks, dvds, and mangas!!
I love Margret Rogerson! I hope she does a series!
I know, that would be so fun!
I love using my local library to test out authors and books prior to buying. It helps me be patient since I like to find a lot of my books used.
I love finding books at used bookstores :D it’s like a little treasure hunt
Yes!! I just found Engines of Empire at Half Price Books…so exciting!
This is so entertaining. Yes, I love Libby and Hoopla. Thank you.
I get all my books from my local library branch. Libraries are the real MVPs! 🥰
They are! It’s pretty amazing how much libraries have to offer :D
i appreciate the "library saves" because i'm constantly grateful for the existence of libby, hoopla, cloudlibrary, and my local libraries because they're always saving me from breaking the bank. books are expensive 😭😭

Haha, I’m sorry about Age of Myth!
I don’t think I’ve ever had that issue with Hoopla 🤔

7:20 How about we just let Young Adult become actually for adults that are young (~18-25yo) and create a Teen category for teenagers?
