    After wandering around Baghdad for a few days, the real Iraqi adventure has just began... My buddy Alvaro and I road tripped to the outskirts of Babylon - the world's first city dating back to 19th Century BC -- and we stumbled upon a MASSIVE palace that overlooks the ancient ruins.
    We parked our car, and wandered inside. It was Saddam Hussein's former palace, which is now totally abandoned. It was so scary to knock down doors and crawl through shattered glass and broken bottles, but it was an experience I'll never forget. You have to see it to believe it!
    Stay tuned for next Sunday's video, where I take you on a journey across ancient Babylon! Iraq is as good as it gets 🇮🇶

      Indeed it was, so was the US intervention in Syria, Lebanon, Egypt and Jordan. It’s all for the Israel lobby and their grip on the US politicians. A potential war with Iran Is also at the benefit of Israel and will cost the US TRILLIONS of dollars, thousands of lives and probably 20 - 30 years of a mission that will fail.

    • @EpicMRPancake

      Drew can only show your home country now because of the United States intervention in 2003. Stop blaming the US and Israel for everything that goes wrong for you. It's easy and gratifying but has little basis in reality. The Saudi lobby is more powerful in Washington than the Israel lobby, and even they opposed the intervention. But it turns out on this important issue the US drove itself, as it tends to do. You needed Saddam like you needed a brain tumour, give up this Stockholm Syndrome and have some belief in your country.

      @@EpicMRPancake You could freely travel to Iraq under Saddam. In fact Iraq was the most prosperous nation in the region and was called “the France of the Middle East”. Tourism was flourishing under Saddam’s Ba’ath party.
      The Saudi lobby did lobby against the intervention but the Israeli lobby lobbied heavy for it. AIPAC is the most powerful lobby in Washington not the Saudi lobby.
      Don’t forget to mention that it is the CIA who implemented Saddam’s Ba’ath party to begin with.

    • @EpicMRPancake
      @EpicMRPancake 3 роки тому +2

      @@Ruder6163 I'll admit that the CIA did as you say, but I'm not a fan of the CIA (and the CIA was not a fan of the 2003 intervention either, go figure).
      My point about the lobby groups in Washington is that they are often overrated, as if US policy is simply the result of a mathematical equation comparing the relative strength of various lobbyists. They have influence but are not puppet masters like some lazy people believe, and the idea that it's Israel pulling all the strings is always tainted with bigotry. Saddam and the US had a history that had little or nothing to do with Israel you realise, like the Kuwait war for instance. There were legitimate reasons for the invasion that had nothing to do with Israel.
      Iraq under Saddam was not the most prosperous country in the region, and to say so demonstrates willing ignorance of history. What you're thinking of is the pre-Ba'ath party prosperity which Saddam's regime leeched off, and after decades of corruption, war, sanctions and neglect it was ground down to poverty. And to the point, Drew would not be able to visit or film because the regime would have imploded, and the violence that Iraq (for the most part) has only just gotten clear of would have been orders of magnitude worse and still tearing the country to shreds. So he couldn't visit unless he was ready to die horribly, and if he didn't die he wouldn't be able to put what he filmed on UA-cam.

    The return of the memories.
    When I saw you walking in the ancient city of Babylon. Especially Saddam's palace, I felt the attack of distant memories on my soul. Those memories made me swim in an ocean of endless sadness and tears. I felt that the history of Iraq goes back to those beautiful days - at least for me - I am the strong young man in body, spirit, and morals - with all the meaning of this phrase. I was working in the Iraqi Ministry of Information - Foreign Media from 1987 until the fall of Iraq. I was accompanying the press delegations that were visiting Iraq at that time. Giant cars were carrying dirt to create high hills in order to build Saddam's palace on those hills. That was in 1987. The labor men were working day and night to complete this grand palace, which Saddam wanted to be a witness to history after his death. Unfortunately, this place has now turned into a pile of rubble, and people are writing ugly words on its walls as if they want to take revenge on Iraq's history under the pretext of their hatred against Saddam. The Ministry of Information in the modern era was supposed to preserve this place and make it a tourist place to visit
    People are from inside and outside and the money obtained from visitors goes to reconstruct, and build the city, but unfortunately, no one cares about this. Today I was happy and sad at the same time because I saw people from outside Iraq coming to visit the palace, but inside them, they say things that are not like the things they say in the video.. The place is filthy and dirty and there is no complete care by those responsible for ruins, remains in Iraq. At that time, Saddam had used to come from time to time to see the progress of work...I watched him several times, but I could not talk to him because of the protection, guards, that surrounded him from all sides. It's all old history...Thank you very much.

    Spending millions of dollars wasn't the only thing he did to build that palace, he also casually blasted away a village where people lived like it was nothing to build the hill for the palace. It went from being an area filled with life...to a narcissistic palace that's now abandoned. Also ironically a good summarization of what has happened to Iraq from the Saddam era to now. Life during the Saddam era, and darkness after the US invasion.
    I'm so invested in dark tourism...it's why I want to visit Greece. Not just to see the ancient ruins but also the modern ruins of the country, aka the abandoned Athens 2004 venues like the infamous beach volleyball one. Ironically, Ellinikon was once home to Athens' airport before it closed and a part of the runway was turned into walkways to connect Olympic venues in a complex, and now those Olympic venues had the same fate as the airport....ABANDONED. Visiting abandoned Olympic venues like those should be something more people do, to see the reality of being an Olympic host city and its side effects.
