Americans will always assume things about countries based on the news, they forget you have to travel to these places to get the real experience and culture. The Middle East is known for its extreme hospitality, like the American South but even more so over there probably. Thank God ISIS is vanquished from Iraq I pray for cities like Mosul, and the site of Nineveh and Nimrud destroyed by bulldozers (irreplaceable city gates and statues).
i'm from Morocco, and i remember my father used to tell me that he'll send me to The university of Baghdad when i'll grow up, i was like what's so special about it? haha years later i realized that Baghdad is historically an amazing city..

I am From Italy and i lived in Iraq as a child, along with many other countries, due to my dad working in the oil fields. I visited Babylon when I was in Iraq (we lived near Mosul). I will never forget that experience, so nice to see it on video. I was there In the 80s during the war with Iran. Often we had to evacuate our compound, or hide in the carpet shops on shopping trips to Baghdad when iranian bombings occurred. In general I remember with fondness all the Arabic countries I lived in: I went to international schools, I learnt a global perspective on humanity, and in particular I will always bring with me the smells and the music of the Muslim world.

i think the reason the entry to these places is hard and takes a lot of security and negotiation is because here in iraq we are not used to having tourists like even the locals dont visit these places let alone tourists, so people here are not used to having people actually wanting to visit these areas, plus the people are still very afraid and traumatized because of the war but still everyone is still very welcoming and nice i hope more people visit my beautiful country iraq

No. The cradle of cities, at least in what is closer to what we actually view as a city. Cities and Civilization are not the same. One goes before the other and it's not cities. Anyway, without leaving Iraq, Uruk was founded two thousand years before Babylon. And there are a lot of older cities in the World. Even in America the oldest city (not civilization, the oldest city is Caral from the "Norte Chico" and the oldest civilization where it's neighbors "the Casma-Sechin") is older than Babylon. And yes, you can have civilization without cities. Just look at Göbekli Tepe or Sechin Bajo that needed a proper organized theology and politics behind it's construction and predate cities.

Babylon is totally safe, even at the civil war at 2007 there was no explotions ever there just on time. Any non Iraqi or non Arab come here after the last checkpoint, police send with him men for security and to sure that he will never take any historical things with him after visiting, I live there and there is European people visit the city almost everyday most of them are British.

Looters are a very severe problem for Iraq's many ancient sites. 2 - Excavated sites need upkeep which needs money and political will, the Iraqi gov seems to have neither. 3 - Religious lunatics like the "Islamic State" or Taleban will destroy ancient sites because they were built before Islam. They did so in Nimrud, Assur, Niniveh in Iraq, in Palmyra Syria and in Bamiyan Afghanistan. They would do the same in Babylon (or in Egypt) if they could. 4 - Iraq's ancient cities and monuments weren't built of stone like Egypt's but of mud brick which easily decomposes if unearthed. Remaining untouched means they will be protected. 5 - Almost all ancient sites on the planet are only partly excavated. Babylon is no exception. I've always been fascinated by mesopotamian civilizations and cities such as Sumer, Assyria, Babylon, Akkad, Nineveh etc., And just finished reading 'The Richest Man in Babylon'. Watching you witness those brick walls bulit by some slaves 6000 years ago is mind BOGGLING!!!!
Slaves? I think they weren't built by slaves, but rather by the citizens working part-time for whoever ran the city (because 6000 years ago is definitely before the Mesopotamian city-states had developed kings).

Most of the city you see is actually outside just a big mounds of clay out there , and it is huge and it is filled with animals of all kinds just as it was prophesied by Prophet JERMIAH . Read Jermiah in the Bible he will let you know what it was when it was standing and he foretold what it would become. Amazing every word that man said came to pass. Jermiah talks about what was happening that time so you can see it right there when it was alive. My family are descendants of Iraqi jews and a lot of our friends are Muslim and Christian middle Easterners. We were never taught to hate each other we are told stories of coexistence. It’s power hungry politicians that manipulate our minds to blame our problems on other groups instead of blaming the people that govern us. We share more in common in terms of history and culture than politicians or media companies will ever show because they want to keep us divided. They want to control us. But when we treat each other with love and respect it is a beautiful thing and by doing that we are honoring our ancestors. Peace and love to all of my Habibis as well as anyone who reads this. The Babylon city 'castle' seems to have been built very recently, the bricks are not 6th century BC bricks... Many historical sites are reconstructed for tourists, like concentration camps in Germany etc. It would have been nice if the vlogger actually discussed the building rather than going on about how he got permission to shoot and had the place all to himself and what a legend he is to go to remote places with a team of security guards.

Western people visit this city everyday without security guards! @@MelbourneMeMe You will find tons of documentaries here on youtube about Babylon and the even older Sumerian civilization (choose an actual history docu and skip the "alien annunaki" bullshit). I did like Drew's video bc only few docus tell about the current situation of ancient sites and the people living there today. So, it's a different approach and i like it. This is not a history channel but youtube has lots of them. Try "History with Cy" for a start, he has lots of videos about Babylon and Sumer.

This is absolutely stunning. I live vicariously through your travels, my friend.!! To see such historic sites that I've heard/read about since childhood, this is simply breathtaking. Point of interest~the single horned goat type creature shown on the brick work is reminiscent of the creature shown in the Indian epic, "mohinjo darro"(forgive my spelling, this is not my language). It’s amazing to see three men at three different faiths being honored to walk through an historical site. As a Soldier I didn’t get to see that side of Iraq. I only saw the bad.
Soldiers especially and sometimes cops get drilled and mind programmed, isolated from reality. I hope you can forgive yourself, connect back with your original version of you and live reality again.
Just some clarification, Ezekiel is a prophet for Muslims as well. Mentioned in the Quran as Dhu Alkafil. To the locals, they visit and ask for blessings in this mosque. It's called Nakheela Mosque. The Mosque was built on top of the original Jewish temple but the kept the original remains of the temple as well. They added a golden cage over the tomb. So, the place is kept holy for both Judaism and Islam. Funny fact, in the Hebrew bible Ezekiel spoke to God during Jewish captivity in a place called Tel Abib (Fruitful Mound) somewhere near modern day Diwaniya, another province near Babylon. Tel Abib is what the name Tel Aviv, Israel's capital is derived from. The Hebrew bible was written in Babylon, another fact.

The Middle East is known for its extreme hospitality, like the American South but even more so over there probably. I am From Italy and i lived in Iraq as a child, along with many other countries, due to my dad working in the oil fields. I visited Babylon when I was in Iraq (we lived near Mosul). I will never forget that experience, so nice to see it on video. I was there In the 80s during the war with Iran. Often we had to evacuate our compound, or hide in the carpet shops on shopping trips to Baghdad when iranian bombings occurred. In general I remember with fondness all the Arabic countries I lived in: I went to international schools, I learnt a global perspective on humanity, and in particular I will always bring with me the smells and the music of the Muslim world.

i think the reason the entry to these places is hard and takes a lot of security and negotiation is because here in iraq we are not used to having tourists like even the locals dont visit these places let alone tourists, so people here are not used to having people actually wanting to visit these areas, plus the people are still very afraid and traumatized because of the war but still everyone is still very welcoming and nice i hope more people visit my beautiful country iraq

No. The cradle of cities, at least in what is closer to what we actually view as a city. Cities and Civilization are not the same. One goes before the other and it's not cities. Anyway, without leaving Iraq, Uruk was founded two thousand years before Babylon. And there are a lot of older cities in the World. Even in America the oldest city (not civilization, the oldest city is Caral from the "Norte Chico" and the oldest civilization where it's neighbors "the Casma-Sechin") is older than Babylon.
And yes, you can have civilization without cities. Just look at Göbekli Tepe or Sechin Bajo that needed a proper organized theology and politics behind it's construction and predate cities.

Babylon is totally safe, even at the civil war at 2007 there was no explotions ever there just on time. Any non Iraqi or non Arab come here after the last checkpoint, police send with him men for security and to sure that he will never take any historical things with him after visiting, I live there and there is European people visit the city almost everyday most of them are British.

2 - Excavated sites need upkeep which needs money and political will, the Iraqi gov seems to have neither.
3 - Religious lunatics like the "Islamic State" or Taleban will destroy ancient sites because they were built before Islam. They did so in Nimrud, Assur, Niniveh in Iraq, in Palmyra Syria and in Bamiyan Afghanistan. They would do the same in Babylon (or in Egypt) if they could.
4 - Iraq's ancient cities and monuments weren't built of stone like Egypt's but of mud brick which easily decomposes if unearthed. Remaining untouched means they will be protected.
5 - Almost all ancient sites on the planet are only partly excavated. Babylon is no exception. However, the most successful excavation campaign was done by a German team in the 19th century and almost nothing was done in the last 50 years.
6 - Drew is absolutely right that Iraq could make great tourism income, supporting thousands of Iraqi families, the same way Egypt does, if they presented their treasures to the world and made sure tourists were safe during their stay.

I've always been fascinated by mesopotamian civilizations and cities such as Sumer, Assyria, Babylon, Akkad, Nineveh etc., And just finished reading 'The Richest Man in Babylon'. Watching you witness those brick walls bulit by some slaves 6000 years ago is mind BOGGLING!!!!
Slaves? I think they weren't built by slaves, but rather by the citizens working part-time for whoever ran the city (because 6000 years ago is definitely before the Mesopotamian city-states had developed kings).

Most of the city you see is actually outside just a big mounds of clay out there , and it is huge and it is filled with animals of all kinds just as it was prophesied by Prophet JERMIAH . Read Jermiah in the Bible he will let you know what it was when it was standing and he foretold what it would become. Amazing every word that man said came to pass. Jermiah talks about what was happening that time so you can see it right there when it was alive. My family are descendants of Iraqi jews and a lot of our friends are Muslim and Christian middle Easterners. We were never taught to hate each other we are told stories of coexistence. It’s power hungry politicians that manipulate our minds to blame our problems on other groups instead of blaming the people that govern us. We share more in common in terms of history and culture than politicians or media companies will ever show because they want to keep us divided. They want to control us. But when we treat each other with love and respect it is a beautiful thing and by doing that we are honoring our ancestors. Peace and love to all of my Habibis as well as anyone who reads this. The Babylon city 'castle' seems to have been built very recently, the bricks are not 6th century BC bricks... Many historical sites are reconstructed for tourists, like concentration camps in Germany etc. It would have been nice if the vlogger actually discussed the building rather than going on about how he got permission to shoot and had the place all to himself and what a legend he is to go to remote places with a team of security guards.

Western people visit this city everyday without security guards! Drew Binsky visited this city at Corona virus time when all countries are closed, this is the reasons why you haven't seen any tourists at this video, yesterday I went there with my friend and his Russian wife to visit this ancient city and no one ask you a permission to shoot, There is no tourists visiting the tomb of the Jewish prophet that's why you have to get a permission!

I did like Drew's video bc only few docus tell about the current situation of ancient sites and the people living there today. So, it's a different approach and i like it. This is not a history channel but youtube has lots of them. Try "History with Cy" for a start, he has lots of videos about Babylon and Sumer.

Point of interest~the single horned goat type creature shown on the brick work is reminiscent of the creature shown in the Indian epic, "mohinjo darro"(forgive my spelling, this is not my language). I always enjoy to find similarities between cultures, even if only in its myths and artwork. Beautiful.

Just some clarification, Ezekiel is a prophet for Muslims as well. Mentioned in the Quran as Dhu Alkafil. To the locals, they visit and ask for blessings in this mosque. It's called Nakheela Mosque. The Mosque was built on top of the original Jewish temple but the kept the original remains of the temple as well. They added a golden cage over the tomb. So, the place is kept holy for both Judaism and Islam.
Funny fact, in the Hebrew bible Ezekiel spoke to God during Jewish captivity in a place called Tel Abib (Fruitful Mound) somewhere near modern day Diwaniya, another province near Babylon. Tel Abib is what the name Tel Aviv, Israel's capital is derived from. The Hebrew bible was written in Babylon, another fact.
