How do you achieve the (flawless) aesthetics of science fiction with limited budget, space and time? Adam Savage speaks to production designer Tony Ianni about how he and his team of hundreds create The Expanse's many otherworldly -- and very convincing -- sets with a TV budget and timeline.

After watching a few of these clips... I went and watched 4 seasons in 4 days, went to load Ep1 of S5 and it wasn't there... can't wait.

By the thumbnail I thought Adam had made a video where he interviews himself and I was seriously concerned he had lost his marbles LOL.

I just discovered The Expanse and I LOVE the show. Binged watched all 6 seasons in 4 days. And I’m back to watch Season 1 again.
This shows the sheer amount of work that needs to be put in. Designing, building, plannig. Really puts into perspective why so many people are required to work on this.
I love all the CPU heat sinks they used ... still has the thermal paste on them!

There are moments when I am _almost_ jealous that Adam gets to see all these amazing places. But then I am glad than Adam goes there and not me. Because he is such an amazing interviewer and narrator that it is a lot more fun to watch him visiting those places and talking to the people there.
The sets, intricate details of them, and the authentic, believable look was actually the reason why I was hooked from S1E1 already and still freaking love how much work they put into these details.

I love the show. The asthetics really picked up on season two. Looking forward for season 5 soon!!!! I would love to see more documentaries about this set design.

Be sure to start from the beginning. I started watching a few episodes in (before Amazon), got lost/bored and let it go. After watching some of Adam's interviews, I gave it another shot, this time from the beginning. It's fantastic. Looking forward to the next season!

Insane how it go from "oh we're on the set of the expanse" to "oh we're travelling from Ceres to Ganymede in a belter ship" that's how good the set design is

One of my old school friends worked in Aliens and I went to the crew showing. In the scene where Ripley chases Newt under the floor they meet in Newts 'nest' and my friend tells me to look for the back of a crt TV panel sprayed silver with buttons added on the wall. Certainly brought me down to earth.

3:45 looks like frequency generator, and 03:55 looks like OBA (Oxygen Breathing Apparatus) for fire fighting.. both of which I had used during my time in Navy hehe
The first was a Fluke 1900A Multi-Counter mounted upside-down. I haven't seen any since my uni days back in the 1980s and they were probably ten or twenty years old back then.

Another great video (I'm at 1:39 now). Longtime fan here (about 5 years). I'm intrigued by the lack of masks or any mention of COVID-19 at the beginning of this video. I'm trying to decide whether it's a deliberate attempt to provoke controversy and increase attention to the channel, or just very clever, or both :)
This was recorded during production for S5 of the Expanse, which was shooting before Covid started

For those of us unfamiliar with the series, what year does it take place?? I see technology looks exactly like in 2015, apparently, digital control panels haven't been invented, like touchpads, everything is still analog, switches, levers, buttons, etc.????
