  • How to modify the mounting tangs on a 2004 and up Garrett turbo to fit in a 2003 F350 6.0 Powerstroke turbo pedestal.
It seems Ford decided to go with a different Garrett model turbo half way through the 2004 build year. This makes finding a replacement 2003 style turbo difficult. By removing the rear bolt tang on the exhaust side of the 2004 turbo, it will fit into the truck and align with the exhaust pipe and up pipes. The oil stand pipe, oil supply line, and sensor plug all line up and connect with no modifications.
Many technicians report that the rear turbo mounting bolt is often loose or gone as was the case in this truck) so having only 2 of the three bolts securing the turbo might not be that much of a stretch. Carry out this modification at your own discretion.

What if you have the intake and turbo from a 05? Is it direct fit ?

If I remember correctly, the turbo bolts to the fuel pump cover. I can’t say for sure, but the fuel pump cover should be the same for all 6.0 blocks. The easiest thing would be to use the ‘05 turbo and it’s mounting pedestal. The pedestal mounting bolt pattern is the same across the years of production; it is the location of the turbo mounting bolts rust changes. Hope that helps and thank you for watching!

Instead of cutting and Mickey mousing, just get the correct pedestal.

Yeah, that would be great if you can find one or are not in a pinch. I wish the guy I bought the turbo from had the pedestal or a local salvage yard had one. It’s not pretty, but it works.
