  • Defence Strategic Review Message from Chief of Air Force (CAF) and Warrant Officer of the Air Force (WOFF-AF).
    This week the Government released the public version of the Defence Strategic Review and its response. Guidance is under development to provide necessary context and direction to Defence.
    These are our orders; this is a consequential time for our nation.
    The Secretary and CDF are now developing plans to implement these orders. We will hear more from them in the weeks ahead.
    The Review describes the challenges we face, and tackles them head on. It directs that our primary area of military interest must now be Australia’s immediate region, including our northern approaches.

    My advice would be to never forget that a professional workforce is a transient one. People don't quit jobs, they quit bosses.

    Perhaps we should set up to build a strike fighter under licence with offsets ? Then we might get some technology transfer. Where is Australia's centre of defence science ?

    A fighting squadron would be great in Western Australia but hey the defence/gov is not interested in doing that.

    Everyone seems to be squawking about all the new toys and spewing out all the buzzwords, good and bad. All this will fail if we don’t have the best facilities that are fit for purpose and evolve to match the toys and the strategy. The critical issue will be people and the change in recruitment/people management required. If it’s not going to be the usual unfettered quids fest for the gun runners, consultants, contractors, ADOHQ frequent flyers and the show ponies, the tech training will need to be reinvigorated as will the depth of technical expertise. So expect different targets for recruitment for these new toys. But by far the biggest impact will be the integration of DFAT (or other functions of government?) and the establishment of a statecraft function. After all Defence is basically foreign affairs at the sharp end.

      Guess you missed where he said it was a "deterrent", as threats to AUS via enemy aircraft carriers, subs can take them out before launching aircraft

    • @williamjiayixu6679
      @williamjiayixu6679 Рік тому

      @@Diffy87 Because the US doesn't have enough subs in Pacific to deterrent China. So, they ask Australia join the US in the war with China to do the dirty work for the US. And AUS believe they can sunk Chinese navy vessel without get any retaliation.

      Not nukes, conventional armaments, but nuclear-powered subs i.e. silent running. Stealthy McStealth Face.

    @stevethomas7273 Рік тому +1

    Number 1 priority is to order 12-24 B-21 raiders all our problems will be solved as far deterrence.B-21 can wipe out fleets and reach any target in the world.Costing a fraction of the sub deal.Not buying it we will be stuck with a short range coastal defence force.

    I believe the Air Force has failed miserably to leverage existing proven platforms.Take the Chinook a possible rapid dragon maybe even a tomahawk working off a Lhd a major long range potential,also can be positioned by utilising existing platforms!The Hercules I do believe finally this is going to be re-purchased and utilised for rapid dragon and himars shoot and scoot.Let’s hope the super hornets won’t be discarded because of some stupidity….Leveraging growlers with loyal wingman growlers,leveraging irst underbelly fuel tanks with loyal wingman to locate and lock stealth aircraft,leveraging bomb trucks with one way wingman massive fire power!!

      They denied the B21 stealth bombers in the defence review that can evade enamy radar and has a 11.000 nortical mile range. I was surprised about that.
      You only have to pack some long range anti ship missiles in them and no Chinese fleet would be able to go anywhere near Australia to even get in range. The man made military islands in the south China sea would be as good as a dead fish floating in the water. Spending billions on long range missile with no platform to deliver them in areas where needed. You can easily run out of missiles. It would take a nuclear powerd submarine 10 times slower than it would to respond with B21. Australia will be able to hit anywhere in Asia and the indo pacific without being seen on radar. I still think Australia needs a long range bomber. China arming there platforms with hypersonic missiles with range of 4000 nortical milies.This puts Australia mainland at risk beyond Indonesia waters. Not one missile Australia building or purchasing has a range of 4000 nortical miles. The longest reach is tomahawks at 2500km. Half the range of Chinese missiles reach.
