  • I took a train to the city of Nottingham on what would turn out to be my final vlog in England before heading on another adventure.
I had done my research before I arrived and the city promised incredible architecture, American candy stores, history and much more. I had a lot of walking to do.
I was surprised to find a city that was still vibrant and filled with independent stores, much more so than in my home city of Sheffield.
Join me as I explore the wonderful city of Nottingham.

I only went there once and it was when I was the lead vocalist in The Tragically Hip.

I most recently encountered this fine gentleman on his travels through Ciego de Ávila after I was invited to address the Cuban Revolutionary Council regarding a national shortage of Bovril. He somewhat curtly informed me that he now prefers to be known as 'Flight Commander Oblivion'.
He'd run into a spot of bother with a few rogue members of the Dirección de Inteligencia and, having lost my Black Widow catapult in an unfortunate wager involving a bluebottle and a sarcastic piano tuner, I was forced to improvise with a length of knicker elastic I found in a bin outside a brothel in Los Palacios.
Later, as we shared a lightly poached egg and a rather fine Montecristo half corona cigar at the fireside, he began to address me as 'Marlon Brando'. I enquired if it was because I reminded him of one the greatest method actors to have ever graced a screen. There followed a moment's pause before he smiled wistfully and softly murmured "No, it's because you are bald and fat and have taken to wearing a dress and an old woman's bonnet".

@@globaltreats I prefer to be called LL Cool J these days. Either that or Pam Dawber.
In a rare moment of clarity, I must say that I love your videos pal. They take me to some exotic places and introduce me to parts of the world that I wouldn't have seen otherwise. Also, I enjoy listening to your thoughts on each place you visit. Great stuff.

@@NicholasBerry-ku9rd I have often wondered what happened to you over the years. I'm not sure why or when we lost touch. My mate mick said he saw you a year or so ago in sheffield. I thought you'd left sheffield a long time ago.

@@globaltreats I don't understand that either mate. I saw you a few years ago one afternoon in the Wetherspoons next to Barker's Pool when I went in there for dinner with my son. I wanted to come over and say hi but I felt too shy! Ridiculous! I regret not doing that.
If you want to get together for a couple of beers sometime or whatever, it would be really nice to see you.

@@globaltreats I remember bumping into Mick a few years ago in Shakespear's on Gibralter St. and having a good chat with him. What a lovely bloke he is and always has been.
I'm not sure, I might have been there to watch Bob Log. More likely, I was just there to get pissed!

@@globaltreats It makes you realise that the rivalry has been there from the very beginning. Sheffield had the first club, nowhere to play. Nottingham had the first pitch, no idea what to do with it. Each town too stubborn to unite and make the best of things.
It wasn't until Robin Hood (who came from the same place as me, Loxley, though at a different time) came along and threatened to pop the ball with one of his arrows unless folk got their shit together that football became a thing. Or 'foot ye yon pig's bladder' as it was originally known.
Interestingly, Robin's minstrel Alan a' Dale invented music in Sheffield, leading to our rich history in the recording arts. The Human Leg, Marti Caine, Cadburet Creme Voltaire, Arctic Leppard, Jarvis Christie, I Monkey, The All Seeing Monkey, Lingpogs, Marti Caine, Dave Berry (who stole my identity and mocked my tears with 'The Crying Game), the bloke who greases his quiff with chip fat and sings about Cole Brothers, AB/CD (who's singer stole my gold suit jacket from The Limit cloakroom- Martin Bastard or something), Micky and the Mechanoids, Marti Caine, the pipe fitter from Crookes who got pissed and forgot he was at Woodstock, Kid Measles, Marti Caine and Funky Worm to name but a few. Not to mention those mavens of 90s psychedelic rock Leave it to Wild Bhuna.
