Grievous had another weakness you missed. In the novels, Count Dooku during training constantly criticized Grievous for being TOO aggressive in lightsaber combat. Grievous did not know how to pace himself, conserve movement, and fight a longer term lightsaber battle. It's why Obi-Wan and other Jedi Masters tended to beat out Grievous in lightsaber duels. Grievous did not listen to Dooku's advice to not always be 100‰ aggressve, and to instead focus on slowly breaking apart his Jedi enemies bit by bit. To tire them out, grind down their defenses, and be more calculating. Count Dooku blamed himself for this flaw in Grievous' lightsaber training and trained other apprentices to avoid this flaw that Grievous had.
Pretty sure Grievous would've actually won the clone wars, had Sidious not favored the republic. The amount of times he had to halt Grievous's progress in the war, best shows just how much of a force Grievous was.
I disagree. Tartakovsky's Grievous's entire introduction scene, where his army is destroying a downed acclamator only to instantly stop at a wordless command, all the way to fighting multiple jedi masters at once and not even breaking a sweat is excellent characterization. It establishes that Grievous is the pinnacle of the CIS's military. He's a brilliant strategist ("Never have we been out-maneuvered by droids. His strategy is without flaw"), a ruthless killer ("Know that I, General Grievous, am not completely without mercy. I will grant you a warrior's death"), and most importantly, when he talks shit, he actually has the skill to back it up (I would use another quote here, but when Grievous is kicking ass, he's dead silent because he doesn't have to say anything). When Grievous was reduced to a Saturday morning cartoon villain who twirls his mustache and runs away, it was a reduction of everything his character had previously been established to be. He was a mediocre strategist in command of idiots and he lost every fight he had. The drastic shift from Tartakovsky's Grievous to Lucas's Grievous is why people think the first is the best: Tartakovsky's Grievous is a real villain. He's a real threat. How often did you feel Lucas's Grievous was an actual threat to the main characters?
@@quantemwensday Being drunk is like being stupid and crazy at the same time. The way to predict their next move is to figure out what would be the most obvious move if one had neither self preservation nor a fear of failure.
This video made me realize just how different the characterizations of Legends and Canon Grievous are. Because I would argue that the Canon version of the character is actually more human than Vader, at least pre-Empire Strikes Back. While he still is cold, analytical and ruthless, he actively revels in this. He lashes out in anger, he's actively gleeful when he's winning, he even showed COMPASSION when mourning the death of Gor. If anything, Canon Grievous' biggest weakness (aside from plot armor and the incompetence of his subordinates) is his own insecurity. Though he would never admit, no matter how many Jedi he kills, no matter how many armies he crushes, his power will never truly be a match for the Force. And while that recognition of his own shortcomings did make him keenly aware of when it was better to cut his losses and fight another day, it also meant that he would often get caught up in the moment whenever he was winning, which would occasionally leave his prey an opportunity to counter or escape.
In Legends Grievous also shows mercy, he spared Shak Ti's life and came to respect various individuals such as: Lushros Dofine (his captain), the Jedi of Hypori (because he wanted to give them a "warrior death" instead of ordering his droids to annihilate them), he had great respect for Dooku seeing him as a mentor who saved him from death and gave him the opportunity to take revenge (which is why he seems to sadly say to Sidious that Dooku had died, although tragically this relationship It was one-sided because Dooku saw him only as a tool), Grievous also respected Wat Tambor a bit for the courage he showed during his escape from a maximum security prison of the Republic (this has nothing to do with TCW), and finally Grievous respected B'ink Utrila for not showing fear when he had almost defeated her and was going to die (this happened during the battle of Coruscant, and in fact he respected her so much that after killing her he did not take the lightsaber from she), this is not to mention that he decided to personally fight Obi Wan on Utapau even though his droids could have killed him in seconds.
Although we never saw it in the animated series, he singlehandedly forced the Republic out of many worlds and outright dominated them until the last years of the war.
General Grievous is my favorite star wars character, I really love his menacing voice, his menacing appearance, and his brutal/cold hearted tactics. In my opinion, he is the prime example of a menacing and heartless antagonist.

Every time I see that fight scene between Obi Wan and Grievous in RotS, I think about a Nick Gillard panel I attended. I went to the Star Wars Celebration shortly before RotS came out and the first panel I went to was with Nick Gillard. He talked about the lightsaber fights in all of the Star Wars movies, but more specifically the fights in RotS. He said that the fight that caused him the most annoyance was the one between Obi Wan and Grievous because of Grievous's 4 arms. It's been a very long time since the panel, but I think that the problem was coordination between the 4 lightsabers and making it look good. So Nick's solution: "Cut off 2 of the arms."
First, I would definitely like to see more of these character profiles, maybe next could be Thrawn or Ackbar since you mentioned them here. Second, great video like always, Geetsly. However, the one flaw with it was including that episode in the Clone Wars where Grevious was beaten by Gungans. The rest of the clips from the series in the video either portrayed Grevious right or at least decently. It's not the fact that he lost to the Gungans, I mean they had him outnumber by a large margin, and as HK-47 pointed out when it comes to battling powerful Jedi when your that outnumber and being attacked from all sides, it doesn't matter how powerful you are you will be overwhelmed. The real problem with that episode is the fact that he only killed like 4 Gungans, he should have been able to kill at least 50 to 70 of them before they took him down.
His best portrayal is still in the CW 2003, everything you said here just backs that up. He had the same cold blooded war monger’s domineer in that series, the only difference is that at least there he had the combat prowess and character introduction to back up the terror that he represented. The first rule of villain introduction is that, in order to truly convince your audience of the threat the villain presents, you should make them at least mostly successful in their first confrontation with the hero/heroes.

03 Grievous was too badass, he would have made it hard to write fights where he DIDN’T loose. Which wouldn’t work when you had him constantly fighting Obi Wan.
The only person he ever fights in Clone Wars is Obi-wan, who needs to stay alive for ROTS. Remember Massacre? There, he slapped Ventress who had to have her zombies save her, then slaughtered the Nightsisters without trouble. When 2008 Greivous isn't fighting characters with plot armour he's pretty badass
Found really interesting how for part one of Metanerdz’s, Geetsly’s made a community post about Grievous and now when part 2 released he uploaded a full blown video dedicated to the character🤔
That's what i like about him. He's the absolute worst in every way there is not a respectable joint in his body, he might as well have a mechanical moustache to twirl. Which of course was Sidious's intent.
I know almost nothing about them, to the point where I kind of doubt your statement that they were just as good despite knowing it's probably true, so that would be excellent. Not that he's probably going to see this comment, but oh well.

The game Hidden Empire tells about Grand Admiral Batch's TIE Phantom project. There's also a good channel called Star Wars Galactic Empire that does short videos on each Grand Admiral. Each of the Grand Admirals were dangerous in their own ways, Zaarin for instance nearly killed Palpatine, Vader and Thrawn during his Insurrection, he invented the TIE Avengers and Defenders. Teshik fought against the entire Rebel Fleet at Endor when the rest of the Imperials fled and lasted four hours against Ackbar's entire fleet in a single star destroyer, Grunger took over vast swaths of the Outer Rim when he went rogue, Pitta depopulated entire sectors, Tigellinus maneuvered himself into control of Imperial Oversector Center, Declann could use battle meditation, Takel could use precognition and light mind reading. Even Il-Raz was a master of propaganda and wiped out many worlds when he went nuts after Endor etc.

Grievous is my favourite character, but the problem I had with him is that he was described as this killing machine that multiple Jedi at once could not stop, yet we don't see that at all in the movies or the clone wars series. I feel like I was told 1 thing and shown the other.
Unfortunately the only characters he ever faces are characters you already know won't die. Greivous could go all out in 2003 Clone Wars against Mace Windu because ROTS hadn't come out yet, so his death couldn't be accounted for. When Greivous isn't fighting plot-armoured Obi-Wan he can still be a badass, like in the Clone Wars episode Massacre
Grievous and Durge are my favorite characters from The Clone Wars era. They’re the embodiment of what it means to have an “over the top” character in a good way. An ancient alien bounty hunter comprised of nerves and muscles that he can extend like tentacles encased in, basically, power armor, that’s Durge. An acrobatic cyborg trained in all forms of lightsaber combat who isn’t even force sensitive, that’s Grievous. Both characters are badass in their own rights. Also, on a side note, Durge is officially gonna be canon again thanks to the War Of The Bounty Hunters comic series.
to fight monsters, you must sometimes create monsters of your own. many people considered the Jedi to be monsters, due to their actions leading up to the Clone Wars, and throughout it. General Grievous was the monster created to counter them. but his cybernetics were only half of the monster that he would come to be. as stated in the video, he became a monster slowly and subtly after watching his people being subjugated and enslaved. his close friend being killed was ultimately the catalyst that set things in motion past the point of no return. this was made worse when the Jedi got involved and started cutting down Grievous' people, who viewed the Jedi as monsters. Grievous would get his chance to get strike at the Jedi not long after that. even when he was recovering from Mace Windu using Force Crush on his chest, he was not to be taken lightly.
I see him more as a joke in anything, but Gendi's version is more of a slasher villain. I understand why George Lucas wanted to modify him because he was basically Vader if he didn't have the force and better cyborgnetics. He wanted to make Grievous a more of a pure evil villain.
Grievous’ problem in episode 3 I think was that he had this reputation for being this unstoppable Jedi killer, but we’re only told that, we never see him do anything to earn that reputation. He just runs away or gets defeated. We should have had a scene where grievous slaughters a group of Jedi and takes their lightsabers, then later in the fight with Orbi Wan we see he’s using their lightsabers against him, and maybe Obi Wan senses this too. Could’ve added a more fearsome appearance for him
Almost like the 2003 version though it was less obvious (maybe nonexistent) in that incarnation of our cyborg boi. Does anyone ever wonder if he became a full cyborg after death? That would be cool to see a robot created to be like him
When grevious goes into centipede mode is very disturbing. I would jump into space seeing that but would stay and fight if he came swinging 4 lightsabers at me.
8:38: Maybe he was tired of all the Sithspit the war and Grievous himself had brought upon the Republic and the galaxy. So much for civility... and then things go from bad to nightmarishly worse later on. Poor guy.
I just love how in the clone wars every time He fights against obi wan you can see that obi wan really struggels to keep up. If Grevous would just try to kill him quickly, I belive he could during the clone wars
Some random thought: Darth Maul is a Zabrak and Zabraks have TWO HEARTS and Kenobi's lightsaber just graced his chest so technically he could be still alive and probably will be if Disney continues milking the star wars franchise but nobody would expect him being alive again, again, am I right?
Never thought about it like that. Seen Transcendence’s vid about this topic though he covered the 2003 version since he loves that one. Though I think about him as if both versions were combined into one. I mean you get both the clone wars and 2003 counterparts in one if you think about Grievous is actually just waiting for the chance to go all out once more. He killed so many Jedi that (there has to be a number right?) some feared him as the dangerously smart monster he is It’s just a thought a Ed thought (I know the game theory parody sucked😅) Oh yeah his fighting style is revolves around overwhelming his foes so much that they have no time to use the force. Even if he isn’t as OP as 2003 he is still OP. The clone wars only proves that he also has weaknesses. He also loves hoarding lightsabers anyway and did Luke ever find his lair? Would be shocked if he didn’t
Wow, that was a really impressive, really thorough, and interesting analysis! THANK YOU! I absolutely HATE when people talk about how they ruined him for the movie and 2nd clone wars show! NO, they SAVED HIM! They changed him from EXACTLY what u said-basically Jason Voorhies, a totally one dimensional character with ZERO depth, and no character! Also, it’s just STUPID to make him more powerful than basically vader and palpatine COMBINED! It’s really sad and pathetic that anyone actually thinks that version is better! Hi is STRONGER, yes, absolutely, but stronger is only good to a point, and he seriously quadrupled it! AND it also just goes to show that those people don’t even realize what they’re complaining about! They always say they made him SO WEAK, and such a COWARD! First of all, he STILL always beats, and usually KILLS any Jedi that’s not a super strong council member(or Ashoka), so he’s STILL crazy strong, just a REASONABLE strong! He even took out the entire night sister clan while fighting Ventress, and eventually even killed mother Talzin!!! And just cause Mace Windu says he’s a coward and always runs away, doesn’t mean he IS! That’s just Windu being frustrated with him. He makes tactical retreats when he knows he’s bested! If that’s cowardice, than pretty much every Jedi, and every sith is a coward, too! He never runs cause he just scared, he runs cause he’s been beaten back, or because it’s tactically the right move! It’s just very frustrating how many people complain about something that isn’t even true, just because they I GUESS just aren’t paying any attention, or something, I dunno:/
(Obi-wan kicking the back of Grievous's knee and got hurt from it) (Clone running up to droid and punches its face and got hurt from it) I love the commitment but who in the right mind would even resort to close combat against machinery?
I just wish that no one would have interfered with grievous's objective of killing the soulless bugs(hak). It would've been fine and dandy if they would have let him finish his job of wiping out the bugs and avenging his lover.
I just wish he wasn't a mustache-twirling villain who was CONSTANTLY talking. I liked him more when he could take on 6 Jedi at once, but I also loved how he rarely spoke. He really was a terrifying monster which is what I thought was part of his whole shtick. Nobody is afraid of someone who's main phrase is "I'll get you next time," as they are constantly running away.
The worst thing that happened to General Grievous is that in the 2003 he was a complete deadly machine that was actually able to take down a lot of Jedi. However, in the more recent animated Clone Wars, he was terrible in his sword fighting. He was less terrifying, less dangerous, and was overall able to kill like 2 Jedi in the entire series. Also, he seemed more cowardly than in the 2003 shows as he is always seen escaping instead of fighting to the death.
Appreciation posts of him happen once in a blue moon, and even then there will always be people in the comments saying “hE Is nOW a jOKe ” so let us have our fun xD

He was an absolute jedi killing machine but we never got to see this in the clone wars like we did the 2003 animated one, almost every time he encountered a jedi he ended up running away, he killed maybe 1 or 2 jedi but thats it, he coughed, ran away, and hid behind his droids the whole time, he couldnt kill padawan ahsoka who shouldve been a piece of cake for him, he lost to gungans, GUNGANS!! 2003 grievous was properly portrayed as a ruthless jedi killing machine, just his presence made a jedi go insane, he took on like 5 jedi and almost killed them all and never retreated
I just wished he was shown to be a horrific killing machine as he was in the Clone Wars 2003. His introduction was amazing.

Count Dooku blamed himself for this flaw in Grievous' lightsaber training and trained other apprentices to avoid this flaw that Grievous had.

Grievous is a legend
Ah yes, because launching a full scale invasion on the core of the republic and kidnapping the chancellor is a small tactical feat.
He also has an unconditional fetish of adding new lightsabers to his collection

So... Clone Wars Multimedia Project Grievous?

Greivous first appeared in star wars republic commando.
Actually, he first appeared in a Clone Wars 2003 mini-comics story.
Of course, what you said was his first video game appearance too, I think.
@@michaelandreipalon359 I think you are correct I definitely first remember Greivous from that game though.
I agree, General Grievous is the best character in all of Star Wars and nobody else even compares to Qymaen jai Sheelal
I would love to see more of grievous in a serie or movie
Guys please know that the fact this channel is run by Grievous sympathizers gives me life & I love it. My fave angry blender
1:08: Did he die? I thought he just teleported to another dimension where his friends are more approachable and less stoic.
His best portrayal is still in the CW 2003, everything you said here just backs that up. He had the same cold blooded war monger’s domineer in that series, the only difference is that at least there he had the combat prowess and character introduction to back up the terror that he represented. The first rule of villain introduction is that, in order to truly convince your audience of the threat the villain presents, you should make them at least mostly successful in their first confrontation with the hero/heroes.
>you should make them at least mostly successful in their first confrontation with the hero/heroes.

I'd like you to analyze the OTHER Grand Admirals, the ones besides Thrawn that were just as dangerous and genius in their own ways.
I know almost nothing about them, to the point where I kind of doubt your statement that they were just as good despite knowing it's probably true, so that would be excellent. Not that he's probably going to see this comment, but oh well.
@@samueldimmock694 Star Wars Insider did short biographies of each of the original twelve. It was called, "Who's Who, Imperial Grand Admirals", Grand Admiral Zaarin has an entire PC game about his duel with Thrawn, it's called TIE Fighter, the Essential Guide to Warfare has both a monologue from Grand Admiral Teshik and articles about the Grand Admirals.

Grievous is the character I want to see on the big screen again in a movie or show.
They did my boy INSANELY dirty in the clone wars CGI show, there's literal interviews with the staff that decided to make him into a joke. I only recognize Legends Grievous.
The fact that he was worshipped as a Demigod just underlines how cool he really is.
Indeed I am the perfect Clone Wars character this video will certainly make a fine addition to my collection
Getting close to four hundred k congrats
to fight monsters, you must sometimes create monsters of your own.
many people considered the Jedi to be monsters, due to their actions leading up to the Clone Wars, and throughout it.

He killed so many Jedi that (there has to be a number right?) some feared him as the dangerously smart monster he is
It’s just a thought a Ed thought (I know the game theory parody sucked😅)
Oh yeah his fighting style is revolves around overwhelming his foes so much that they have no time to use the force. Even if he isn’t as OP as 2003 he is still OP. The clone wars only proves that he also has weaknesses. He also loves hoarding lightsabers anyway and did Luke ever find his lair? Would be shocked if he didn’t
Thank you for mentioning "Labyrinth of Evil" what an incredible novel.! Yes 30 kids...Grievous had 30 kids!

I just wish that no one would have interfered with grievous's objective of killing the soulless bugs(hak). It would've been fine and dandy if they would have let him finish his job of wiping out the bugs and avenging his lover.
Great character
I just wish he wasn't a mustache-twirling villain who was CONSTANTLY talking. I liked him more when he could take on 6 Jedi at once, but I also loved how he rarely spoke. He really was a terrifying monster which is what I thought was part of his whole shtick. Nobody is afraid of someone who's main phrase is "I'll get you next time," as they are constantly running away.
They should make a movie about him and his backstory
Apparently his ship, the Soulless One, was affectionately referred to as the Spineless One due to how often Grievous would run away in it
The worst thing that happened to General Grievous is that in the 2003 he was a complete deadly machine that was actually able to take down a lot of Jedi.
