Here are some facts about the Black Kite that you probably didn't know!
▫️ The black kite, a medium-sized bird, is one of the most common raptor species.
▫️Occupying major parts of Eurasia, Africa, and Australia, the bird inhabits a wide variety of habitats.
▫️The bird has adapted well to human-dominated environments, and can thus be commonly spotted in cities.
▫️As an opportunistic predator and scavenger, it plays a crucial role in the ecosystem by removing decaying animal remains.
▫️Black Kites can mostly be seen gliding and soaring over garbage dumps as they search for food.
▫️In summers, as high temperatures are recorded in Northern India, numerous Black Kites often suffer from heat exhaustion and dehydration.
▫️They are even found entangled in sharp glass-coated strings or manja, which leave them injured.
Wildlife SOS rescues numerous birds that are found in distress due to dehydration or injuries from manja.
