The stone fly was the first fly on the tippet then I had a light bead head pheasant tail fly as a dropper tied onto the stone fly. I don’t usually use a “strike indicator” instead I use my floating line as a strike indicator. I choose a bright color usually orange for my fly/main line and I slightly lead my line as it flows down stream this allows me to change depth on each cast vs using a floating indicator and either changing it often or being stuck with a single depth. Hopefully this makes sense and helps.
It’s alright, I like it just fine, I bought my wife the equivalent of the encounter in the cabelas brand and I like it better than the encounter. Now at the level and price they probably are made in the exact same factory just a different brand stamped on them. If I buy another fly rod I’ll buy the best prices for the level of rod despite the brand. The line is scientific angler 5wt floating ft. I like the line, as you probably concluded it’s not what comes with this rod setup.
@@onebadshad I bought my son his first fly rod this past January and it was a Cabelas/White River Brand. It castes nice but didnt last long. The striping guide broke after a couple months then the tip snapped when he hooked on a fish. After several attempts Cabelas finally replaced it. I have the Orivs Clearwater on one of my rods and thinking about switching it out. I know the Encounter kit comes with that line and that is why I was wondering how you liked the line you have now compared to the clearwater line.
Love fishing this river.
Payette river is my favorite in Idaho. Nice vid!
Mine too!
at 13+ minutes of the video where you are fishing the stonefly nymph, are you using some type of indicator? what did you rig this?

How do you like the encounter and what line are you using?

This is actually really the only time you can fly fish the payette usually it’s very high running river.
