  • I found this group when walking past one of their vans and investigated the website to find out more. At this point I was interested to see what we could get and was it worth the money. Have a look at the video and tell me what you think. ‪@thebreadandbutterthinguk‬

    It looks like a good amount for £8.50. Plenty of fruit at least x

      We figured that too the fruit and veg alone would be £8.50.

    Never heard of the 'Bread & Butter Thing', (probably too far south), but that's got to be helpful to anyone on a small income and having to budget carefully, surely. The only comparable thing I know of is several shops in our area which sell on groceries at their 'best before' dates, and in one way that's better as you can see all that's on sale and pick only the things which you are most likely to like/use. And there are no restrictions on how much except your own budget. Some days are better than others, and I guess that applies to 'Bread & Butter', too. I just chanced by your video today and have to say what a wonderful character your cat is. Demanding maybe, but fun at the same time and clearly, like most cats, has you trained to perfection! Loved your delivery too... no waffling or flannelling... always makes a video a pleasure to watch. 👍

      Thank you do much for the compliment. 😊 We have a best before warehouse not too far away called Rogers Wholesale, I've picked quite a few things there, you do take your chance on what's there but we've done well with pasta and other dried goods, 😀

    I live in Melbourne Australia where food is more expensive than in UK. I go once fortnight to a shop called Cheaper by Miles. They sell most things at at around one pound per item sometimes 3 for one pound or sometimes 3 for 2.5 pounds. You never know what will be in stock, one time 2 kg bags of good brand coffee beans for less than half normal price, but sometimes staples like milk, butter always yogurts and store cupboard. Wonderful for gluten free and began people as they have all end of lines, close to use by dates etc. No fresh veg however, just various frozen veg. I do my shop here then buy rest I need at supermarket (limiting to wheat is reduced or on special).

      That's brilliant, especially as gluten free stuff can be so expensive

    I wish the U.S. had these kinds of bags/boxes when produce is getting replaced in the store. Never heard of it here. Maybe some places have it, but haven't heard of any.

      I only happened upon this by chance, I know other areas have community shops. But it's a shame there's nothing near you, 😕.

      At the moment midlands and north but hopefully they will be expanding further south. Have a look and see if there is a Rogers Wholesale near you, I've made a video about one near me. Or try to search best before shops online there maybe some near you.

    Brilliant idea but sadly they don’t cover most of the East Midlands.

    I used it last week, didn’t get nearly as much fruit and veg in mine, pasta, hot cross buns, lots of Kitkat and tunnocks snowballs, I got grated cheese, egg mayo, bacon and 2 chorizo rings, I also got the korma sauce which I will add extra spices to. It was worth the £8.50 but the majority was things I wouldn’t normally buy

      I agree we don't by many snack things at all, I m going to get another one in about a month and see what we get then.

    i've watched a few other pantry/food bank hauls and wondered when they show the stuff. lots of junk food...well it isn't really food at all to me but many people eat processed food and don't even cook a vegetable.

    • @tryingtogetby
      @tryingtogetby  3 місяці тому +1

      I agree, the fresh stuff was good, some of the chilled too. But most of the rest we wouldn't buy normally, this is not something I would use to feed us but possibly a family would use it as a top up? I'm probably going to go again in a month and see, then see if there is a range to what they provide.

  • @raspberryleaf3741

    It's a pity there is so much junk food.

    • @tryingtogetby
      @tryingtogetby  3 місяці тому +1

      I liked the vegetable bag, but agree the other food was quite processed, I suppose it depends on what there is available to them. I do aim to do more in the future to see what range there is. 🤔

      @tryingtogetby Yes, the veg and fruit bag was very good. I know a lot of the too good to go bags can often be full of bread products. I'm guessing it's the luck of the draw.

    I live in the south east so none around here. Apart from the fruit and veg I wouldn't buy any of the other items. I always find in this type of thing there is a lot of processed food which I try to avoid. For a family on a tight budget though its probably really good.

    • @tryingtogetby
      @tryingtogetby  3 місяці тому +1

      I agree there are many processed items I'm hoping to find a balance once I do more I think I will do a once month for a few months and see how we go.
